[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1493888] Re: FGLRX incompatible with kernel 4.2

2015-10-14 Thread M Oberhauser
fglrx falls back to xserver-xorg-video-ati when fglrx is installed,
because the fglrx module can't be loaded on boot. If you force booting
with fglrx by removing the x-org mesa packages, it freezes on boot.

My card is a Radeon R270X ITX on Ubuntu 15.10.

  FGLRX incompatible with kernel 4.2

Status in fglrx-installer package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
With a R9 280 and FGLRX on ubuntu 15.10 the graphics lock up. I am
able to SSH into the machine. I booted the older kernel
(4.1.0-3-generic) and it works with FGLRX. After purging FGLRX and
using xserver-xorg-video-radeon I am able to get the graphics working,
but even it has issues with my display port (The DVI ports are working
  correctly).

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1394977] Re: Slow unity panel loading during first login

2014-11-25 Thread M Oberhauser
I subscribed Elliot Murphy and filed it against fuse as ntfs-3g has no
maintainer. Please mark the bug as conformed or invalid. Hope this is
the right procedure.

** Also affects: fuse (Ubuntu)

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1394977] Re: Slow unity panel loading during first login

2014-11-25 Thread M Oberhauser
Found the issue, i had four NTFS partitions auto mounted with ntfs-3g in
/etc/fstab. Setting three of them to "noauto" reduced the delay to 2
seconds. I'm quite sure if I remove the last one it's fixed completely,
but I need it.

So should I file the bug against fuse / ntfs-3g / another display
package or is this inteded?

If I set my login to automatic, I get very close symptoms to bug

When a buddy writes me a lot of lines (say 25) all messages are queued and
showed in the bubbles. Every bubble stays there for 7 seconds. 7*25=almost 3

What happens is that if any other contact writes to me, the bubbles

A workaround is to clear this folder.
~/.cache/rhythmbox/album-art

No idea how the files were named the way the are, but RB assignes them
to songs that don't have an album cover and somehow fit into the

@Daniel: Cycling throught the results w/MouseWheel sounds fine.

If point 2 (Hide search window when mouse clicks somewhere else) is
done, one can easily click in the file browser and continue scrolling as
usual.

A thing I wanted to add and might be helpul: If Nautilus is opened over
a "Select file" button (e.g. upload file in Firefox, open file in
certain programs) the recursive search is NOT active but the type ahead

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1164016] Re: restore type-ahead find

2013-07-10 Thread M Oberhauser
Unfortunately it seems that it's less a question of sense but stubbornness.
Immediately after the changes were merged, they came up with the "Find in view
is broken issue":
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=679900

natermer left a long and very biased comment, indicating that Gnome won't
return to the type ahead functionality. Not sure how deep he's involved into
developement:
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=680118#c63

It might be worth a try to directly contact the responsible devs and
have a polite discussion wether this bug was marked "invalid" on a
technical and comprehensible reason, considering design and consistency
being a bad tradeoff for usability and freedom of choice.

If Gnome then still persist on the Apple pathway, how are the chances of
getting a type ahead plugin working?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 334809] Re: design problem? infinite wait for long queue

2013-07-05 Thread M Oberhauser
Added rhythmbox to the affected packages ( Bug #1198144 ). Either
rhythmbox shouldn't send notification when songs are changed manually or
the notify OSD has to handle the queue and cut it down.

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: notify-osd

  I'm using pidgin-libnotify and I discovered a problem in notify-osd (maybe a
design problem, not sure).
When a buddy writes me a lot of lines (say 25) all messages are queued and
showed in the bubbles. Every bubble stays there for 7 seconds. 7*25=almost 3
minutes.

What happens is that if any other contact writes to me, the bubbles
are scheduled too! And also the notifies sent through "notify-send"
  are.

(Instead volume notifies are displayed below.)

This is a problem, because it seems that an application can bring the
  monopoly of the notification bubbles.

  Architecture: i386
  DistroRelease: Ubuntu 9.04
  Package: notify-osd 0.8-0ubuntu4

   PATH=(custom, user)
   LANG=it_IT.UTF-8
