Title:
Garbage on X display w/ Dell D800 wuxga & nouveau driver (Nvidia
  GeForce4 Ti 4200 Go AGP rev a1 [NV28])

Status in Nouveau Xorg driver:
  Unknown
Status in xserver-xorg-video-nouveau package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete
Status in xserver-xorg-video-nouveau package in Debian:
  New

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau

I have a Dell D800 laptop with high resolution screen (1920x1200) that
was working fine with Ubuntu 10.04. I performed a fresh install of
Ubuntu 10.10 which appears to use the nouveau driver. The screen now
displays garbage, more pronounced on icons, where text seems to render
  fairly well.

I've attached a picture of the screen to illustrate.

While I've tried to intall the Nvidia drivers, this problem manifested
from the initial install of the 10.10 alternate RC disc, and remains
present with all packages updated as of 10/1 where no alternate driver
  install was attempted.

Please let me know what information I might be able to provide that
would be useful in fixing this problem.

  Thank you,

  -john

Title:
nVidia GK106GLM [Quadro K2100M] [10de:11fc] Connect to HDMI / DP port
with open-source driver will cause Xorg crash

Status in Nouveau Xorg driver:
  Unknown
Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in xserver-xorg-video-nouveau package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  CID: 201305-13527 Dell Precision M4800

Xorg would crash and restart (you will see the login screen again and
again) when the HDMI / DP cable is connected to the system.

  Steps:
  1. Install 14.04 + update (3.13.0-36), boot to desktop
  2. Connect a HDMI / DP cable

  Expected result:
  * The external monitor should work

  Actual result:
  * The external monitor screen is black, and the Xorg crashed -> black screen
on this laptop -> login screen shows up -> black screen... repeat.

  WORKAROUND:
  * Install the proprietary nvidia driver

I'm not sure if this should be consider as a blocker.
But hey, we need to certified this I+N system with the proprietary driver, I
think it's OK to not to call this a blocker.

Status in xserver-xorg-video-nouveau package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
Nouveau works fine with brightness controls working fine after initial
boot, but I do S3 suspend, and then resume via power button, and
brightness controls don't work at all, and backlight is on, but set at
  extremely low level.

hardware is Quadro 770M on HP 8530w laptop

/sys/.../brightness control does nothing when in this state,
suspend resume cycles after this first cycle all have the same problem.

I'll test if a full hibernate has the issue or not after this and
  report back.

Bug description:
This occurs on my shiny new Lenovo Thinkpad T540p.

I have my laptop docked in a Lenovo UltraDock running two external
  1080p displays.

When I'm logged in, if I un-dock the laptop I get booted back out to
the login screen (i.e.- X crashes). This seems to happen about 90% of
the time, so it's reasonably easy to reproduce.

In order to try and reproduce this, I installed the X server -dbg
packages. However, with the -dbg packages installed I can't seem to
reproduce this any more (possibly a race condition?).

Status in xf86-video-intel:

Status in xserver-xorg-video-intel package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
Thinkpad X220 running vivid up to date.

Usually sits in docking station with external monitor.

Today I ran the laptop outside the docking station, and plugged it
into the dock while running (which worked fine forever on utopic) but
  today it now freaks out.

I deleted ~/.config/monitors.xml to reset my display config

I restarted and logged in with both monitors active.

As soon as I change the display config doing the display corrupts,
  flickers and becomes unusable.

Title:
ATI Resume from Suspend leads into black screen (VGA_Switcheroo)

Status in Linux:
  Confirmed
Status in xserver-xorg-driver-ati:
  Unknown
Status in xserver-xorg-video-ati package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  I have a HP Touchsmart 2 (tm2).
This Notebook has 2 Graphiccars: Intel (DIS) and ATI (IGD):
  # lspci | grep VGA
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Core Processor
Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 02)
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI
Manhattan [Mobility Radeon HD 5400 Series]

If i use the Intel-Graphiccard, everything works well, i can suspend and
resume as often as i'd like.
Edit: As soon as I switched (switch to ATI and back to Intel, the below
problem happens on Intel-GPU too).
If i use the ATI-Graphiccard i can suspend (wich takes a longer time than
with the Intel one) however I can't resume. I get a blank/black screen and
can't change brightness. Plus I can't switch to any tty.

I've tried this instructions to find an error:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelSuspend
but it dosn't seem to bring relevant informations (however, I'll add the
dmesg.txt to this bugreport)

PS: to switch between graphiccards, I use "vga_switcheroo" and i have
  "vanilla"-ubuntu, no third party software.

At this point the system hangs or reboots. When hung there is no

1002:6821 Graphical issues when radeon MST enabled

Status in xserver-xorg-video-ati package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
The kernel was launched with the options: radeon.mst=1 radeon.dpm=1 (however,
I noticed identical symptoms for radeon.mst enabled only)
The setup in total includes 3 screens: laptop's one + 2 times Dell U2715H
(connected by Display Port daisy chain)
I get Ubuntu login GUI on two Dell screens, laptop's screens got off. The
Dell screens are properly detected as separate: I can move mouse from one
screen to another. Image on the last Dell screen is defected (blur) as in the
attached picture. After login all screens switch to power safe mode.
Afterwards, I'm able to switch to CLI (ALT+CTRL+F2) but screens is doubled on
two Dells (they are treated as one), laptop's screen remains off.

At the contrary, if once lightdm starts I go to tty1 → sudo service lighdm
stop → sudo killall pulseaudio → echo OFF| sudo tee
/sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo/switch #switch to integrated card

  Everything works well instead.

So it seems that pulseaudio should disable the powered-off card on
switch (or is this something that the kernel should do?).

Bug description:
i just installed the new ubuntu 7.4 on my laptop toshiba m40x with ati x300.
i've enabled desktop effects with no window wobbling and with cube rotation.
it works quite well but sometime, without any clear reason, the desktop
freezes completely (happened simply moving the mouse on an icon or opening a
new application):
the mouse moves but can't interact with the desktop
no chance to ctrl-alt-bksp, or to change console (ctrl-alt-f1), keyboard is
not responding
i have to shout down the computer from the power button. (restarting
everything works again but occasionally some new bugs appear)
Don't know how to give more informations.

there are a number of other minor but annoying bugs correlated, i don't know
if they have to be posted here or in the compiz bugsite.
they happen quite frequently and are:
after maximizing a window it is not possible to unmaximize from the title bar
icon (only from the bottom panel)
the number of workspaces resets to 1 and the cube is not able to rotate
some windows are not refreshed and the content is not visible (as bug 91810)
some windows are visible in every workspace
  and more..

  [Note]
There are numerous unrelated -ati errors that can cause freezes in X that are
particular to specific hardware or usage scenarios. The original bug
reporter's specific issue was resolved, so if you are also experiencing an X
freeze it is probably unrelated to this bug. PLEASE REPORT YOUR ISSUE AS A
SEPARATE BUG. Don't reopen or add confirmations onto this one.

Title:
[RV635] No hardware acceleration on ATI Radeon 3650 HD using 'radeon'
  driver

Status in xserver-xorg-driver-ati:
  Unknown
Status in xserver-xorg-video-ati package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-radeon

On Lucid Lynx, after few updates I completely lost graphics hardware
acceleration. As fglrx won't work with new xorg, I use radeon driver
(my card is ATI Radeon 3650 HD). I used to have perfect 3d graphic,
compiz and games used to work smoothly, but from some time I can't use
any of them, when I lunch a game it consumes 100% cpu and lags a lot,
and when I start compiz, it says

compiz (core) - Fatal: Software rendering detected.
compiz (core) - Error: Failed to manage screen: 0
compiz (core) - Fatal: No manageable screens found on display :0.0

so my guess is that the radeon driver is not providing me with 3d hardware
acceleration.
  =
I don't know if it is a significant tip, but I found out that use-count of
module 'radeon' is 0, as lsmod shows.

  Module Size Used by
  radeon738407 0
  ttm60847 1 radeon
  drm_kms_helper 30742 1 radeon
  drm 198930 3 radeon,ttm,drm_kms_helper
  i2c_algo_bit6024 1 radeon
  ...

I have no idea on what can be wrong. Maybe the problem is somewhere in
my configuration (but I doubt it), maybe it's a bug in radeon driver,
or maybe it's a bug somewhere else.

I hope debug info I provide will be useful.

[RV350 9600] [Needs quirk] X freezes in drmCommandWrite() when Compiz
  is enabled

Status in xserver-xorg-driver-ati:
  Unknown
Status in compiz package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid
Status in xserver-xorg-video-ati package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

I'm starting this new report on behalf of what Bryce Harrington said
  here: https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-
  video-ati/+bug/108527/comments/143

  OK, first things first:

  What happens?
X freezes on my Thinkpad T42 with an ATI Radeon Mobility 9600 when running
Compiz.
There are no problems at all when Compiz is disabled.
This problem started with Gutsy and persists with an up-to-date version of
Hardy Alpha5

Also: I have a Radeon 9600XT on my main machine which has no problems
whatsoever with running Compiz on Gutsy – that's why I think this is a
  problem with Mobility chips.

  What are the symptoms?
I can run Ubuntu with Compiz fine for some minutes. Then all of a sudden the
fan kicks in and X just freezes.

  What works?
Only the movement of the mouse cursor.
Restarting the system via SysRq REISUB

  What does not work?
Everything else. I can't even restart X via [Ctrl]+[Alt]+[Backspace] or log
into a console via [Ctrl]+[Alt]+[F1]

  Infos.
I followed the steps in https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingXorg so I'm adding
that output here.
X froze prior to the backtrace.

I'm also attaching Xorg.0.log, Xorg.0.log.old and the output of lspci
-vvnn _right after the crash_ (recieved via ssh) as well as the
  xorg.conf

  [Note]
For anyone else seeing freezes on ATI cards, the issue is highly
hardware-specific. Unless you have the exact same hardware (see lspci output)
and your backtrace shows it failing in drmCommandWrite(), please file a NEW
bug. Include your Xorg.0.log's, xorg.conf, backtrace, and the output of lspci
-vvnn in your new bug.

Title:
AMD GPU hang/crash/black screen after suspend(ing)

Status in Linux:
  Unknown
Status in xserver-xorg-video-amdgpu package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
This is a freeze which is obviously caused by a bug in the xserver-
xorg-video-amdgpu package ver: 19.0.1* which is shipped with Ubuntu
19.04 and 19.10. Upstream fix is needed.

  Workaround:
sudo nano /etc/apt/sources.list, copy-paste one line which contains "main
multiverse universe restricted" and change the distribution name "eoan" or
"disco" to "bionic" (for this line only)
So you will have a line like
deb [url] bionic multiverse main restricted universe
  ctrl+o, save it

  sudo update
  sudo apt install xserver-xorg-core=2:1.19.6-1ubuntu4
  sudo apt install xserver-xorg-video-amdgpu=18.0.1-1

  sudo reboot

If everything is OK then you should keep these packages by using:
  sudo apt-mark hold xserver-xorg-core=2:1.19.6-1ubuntu4
  sudo apt-mark hold xserver-xorg-video-amdgpu=18.0.1-1

You can later unhold them by using the same commands with "unhold"

If a newer bionic package version comes out (fe. a security update)
you should unhold the packages do an apt update and use apt policy
[package name without = and version] to check the new bionic versions
that you can install using my original install commands with the
  proper version paramter.

If something is not OK, then press E on grub menu, paste nomodeset
parameter at the and of the kernel line then f10. After the kernel
loading and the command line login you should just do an apt upgrade
if you hadn't held the packages before.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 23545]

2019-10-14 Thread Martin-peres-n
Hi,

Freedesktop's Bugzilla instance is EOLed and open bugs are about to be
migrated to http://gitlab.freedesktop.org.

To avoid migrating out of date bugs, I am now closing all the bugs that
did not see any activity in the past year. If the issue is still
happening, please create a new bug in the relevant project at
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/drm (use misc by default).

Sorry about the noise!

[RV250 9200] No more X on resume after hibernate

Status in X.Org X server:

Status in xserver-xorg-video-ati package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
I'm using breezy on an ASUS A2D laptop and can hibernate and resume from
console
without problem (which means I setup my swap partition correctly in
  /boot/grub/menu.lst).

The failing occurs in the following situations :
  - hibernating from X and coming back from hibernation doesn't work ;
  - switching to console, hibernating and coming back works, but then switching
to
  X again fails.

I think the problem is related to reenabling the video memory : when the
laptop
boots up, it displays a centered "ASUS", then proceeds with resuming ; and
when
X restarts, "ASUS" is displayed, repeated several times over the display. And
  the box is crashed...

I'm using the radeon driver (not fglrx) with the following card (lspci): VGA
compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV250 5c61 [Radeon Mobility 9200
  M9+] (rev 01).

Hope I wrote enough information -- in case it's needed I can do tests
  and report.

Thanks for the info!

I'll treat this as a mesa bug and since we are using your blacklist, we
should be safe to just ignore it from our side. I'll close our kernel

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1714178]

2018-11-07 Thread Martin-peres-n
I posted a patch series for -modesetting that fixes this issue, and also
adds TearFree support:
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/xorg/xserver/merge_requests/24

The patch series from Ville
(https://patchwork.freedesktop.org/series/49663/) will however be what
you are looking for, as it will not reduce the performance at all.
