[Desktop-packages] [Bug 702452]

2015-09-28 Thread Michael Müller
Hi,

I wrote a tiny patch which changes the window class inside of winex11
from "Wine" to the name of the program executable. This solves the
problem and does not require any changes to desktop files (and it also
works if you start the program from a terminal). Most window managers
should now only group together the windows of the same executable and
not all wine applications. The patch is available at:

https://github.com/compholio/wine-
compholio/blob/master/patches/winex11-Window_Groups/0001-winex11
-Prevent-window-managers-from-grouping-all-wi.patch

Could you guys verify that it works for you? I tested it with XFCE and
Unity and it solves the problem.

The patch does not implement the AppUserModelIDs feature but since Wine
still defaults to Windows XP mode, I assume that most applications
wouldn't use this feature anyway.

Bug description:
After launching a Wine app from terminal or via gnome-do, it appears in the
launcher with the Wine icon, instead of its own icon. The title is "Wine Window
Program Loader" instead of the proper application name.
It can't be favorited since it will favorite the wine executable itself.
And obviously different wine apps are all grouped under the same launcher
icon.

See also bug #635223 about Wine applications not showing up in the
  dash.

-

A way to fix this is to make all the Wine generated .desktop file to
include a StartupWMClass value that matches the instance name of the
related program (generally the .exe file name to be executed).

So for example, a "Mozilla Firefox.desktop" file can be easily fixed adding
this parameter:
   StartupWMClass=firefox.exe

Wine should try to add this information at file generation time.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1307989] Re: chromium 34 not see NPAPI pipelight plugin

2014-05-21 Thread Michael Müller
Hi Eric,

you can find some information about this in our slides from our Talk at
the LinuxTag 2014. Take a look at Slide 29 and the following ones:
http://www.linuxtag.org/2014/fileadmin/docs/slides
/Michael_Mueller___Sebastian_Lackner___Erich_Hoover_-
_Pipelight__Windows_Plugins_in_Linux_Browsers.e1342.pdf

There was also some live demo of a PPAPI version during our talk, but as
mentioned in the slides, a patched browser is a better solution.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1307989] Re: chromium 34 not see NPAPI pipelight plugin

2014-04-15 Thread Michael Müller
Hi,

I wrote two small patches to get Pipelight working again with Chromium.
The first patch enables loading of NPAPI plugins when using Aura and
second one adds some minimal code to make Chromium think that drawing
still works. The second patch does not include the necessary Xembed code
which would be necessary to actually show the window inside the browser,
but will pass an invalid window handle (0) to the plugin. Pipelight
versions = 0.2.6 will automatically detect the invalid handle and
disable embedding so that the plugin will be shown in an extra window.
It is not perfect, but should be usable for most plugins like
Silverlight.

The patches were written against Chromium 35, but I assume that they
should also apply for Chromium 34. If there is interest in using the
patches and they do not apply, I can try to fix this problem.

Michael

I have the same problem: 12.04 is fine, but 12.10 or 12.04.02 is broken. The

acer aspire 1300 (S3 ProSavage) dsiplays distorted image after
upgrading from Ubutn 12.04 to Ubuntu 12.10

Status in “xserver-xorg-video-savage” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
I have a laptop Acer Aspire 1300, running Lubuntu since 10.x. Some
years, already. Everything worked fine. The problem came after
upgrading from Lubuntu 12.04 (in which display still worked correctly)
to 12.10. After that, the laptop boots up correctly, but when it boots
the display manager (lightdm) then the screen distorts completely.
Only the upper thrid is more or less correctly displayed.

The graphics card is an S3 VT8363A ProSavage KN 133 (AGP4X VGA
  controller), as reported by lspci.

  Modifying xorg.conf does not help.

Changing the display manager (from lightdm to lxdm) does not help, as
  well.

I tried with sudo modprobe savage (since savage does not appear with
lsmod), stopping and starting the display manager. But that did not
work. Also, it appears that the module is not kept after rebooting.

  Any ideas?
