[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1638842] Re: network-manager does not manage ethernet and bluetooth interfaces when Ubuntu 16.10 is installed using chroot/netboot method

2017-03-21 Thread Miguel Rubio-Roy
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1658921 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1658921

Same problem after an upgrade from 16.04 to 16.10 via "do-release-upgrade".
Ethernet and WiFi not managed.
Solved it creating blank file at
/etc/NetworkManager/conf.d/10-globally-managed-devices.conf
as per comment #6

Title:
network-manager does not manage ethernet and bluetooth interfaces when
Ubuntu 16.10 is installed using chroot/netboot method

Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:
  Won't Fix

Bug description:
  Hello,

  I installed Ubuntu 16.10 using a chroot. I use network-manager to
manage connections. My system is up-to-date (so I use network-manager
  1.2.4-0ubuntu1).

Wifi works perfectly but I cannot connect to wired networks and using
my phone's Bluetooth connection. Corresponding devices are said to be
unmanaged by network-manager. nmcli dev outputs:

  DEVICETYPE STATE CONNECTION
  enp1s0ethernet unmanaged --
  wlp2s0wifi disconnected --
  6C:9B:02:2C:EE:2C btunmanaged --
  hfp/org/bluez/hci0/dev_6C_9B_02_2C_EE_2C gsm unmanaged --
  loloopback unmanaged --

The following command has no effect:
sudo nmcli dev set enp1s0 managed yes

I can connect to a wired connection by doing:
  ifconfig enp1s0 up
  dhclient enp1s0

There is nothing in the file /etc/network/interfaces.

Everything works perfectly if I downgrade network-manager to this
  version: network-manager_1.2.2-0ubuntu0.16.04.3_amd64.deb
  (http://packages.ubuntu.com/xenial-updates/amd64/network-
manager/download). I had to install libreadline6 and downgrade nplan
  to meet dependencies.

I don't know what to join to this bug report so please ask in case
  anything is needed.

I've observed that Super+Space actually works when space is pressed
very rapidly after Super. The delay must not exceed roughly half a
second.

This bug is probably a duplicate of

When using the Super+Space key shortcut to show the launcher of

I've changed the default key shortcut using the Unity Tweak Tool. If
I use Super+Rkey the shortcut always works the first time.

I've had this problem during a year, first with 13.10 and now with
  14.04 LTS.

  2. Open System SettingsRegion Language
  3. Switch to the Text Entry tab.
  4. Click the + button to add at least two more keyboard layouts.
  5. Log out and log back in.
  6. Try to use the (new) default Super+Space keyboard shortcut to switch
between keyboard layouts.

  What happens
  ---
Usually, Super+Space is ignored. It worked for me once on login but every
other time I tested it didn't work.
It works fine in GNOME Shell but not in Unity.

  gsettings reset org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.media-keys
switch-input-source
seems to be enough to nudge Unity into respecting the Super+Space keyboard
shortcut.

My guess is that Unity is too aggressive in binding the Super key to
  itself.

  Workaround
  -
Shift+Super+Space, the keyboard shortcut to switch backward between keyboard
layouts works.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1369028] Re: Slow thumbnail generation and scrolling

2015-02-03 Thread Miguel Rubio-Roy
I've tested the PDF included by Christopher and I observe the exact same
behavior as with some of my
other PDF documents.

I think the fix should be also rolled out for the last LTS version 14.04

Thanks!

  Slow thumbnail generation and scrolling

Status in evince package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
After a GTK update this morning (2014-09-13, via update manager on
14.04. LTS), the thumbnail generation on evince 3.10.3 became very
slow. Whenever loading the next thumbnail image, evince completely
hangs. This makes reading documents very annoying.

This seems to be related to these bug-reports:
  https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=691448 (!)
  https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1047566

The document opens fine in other viewers (like xpdf)
When the thumbnails side pane is disabled, the problem goes away.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1305588] Re: Thunderbird quits on closing last window

2014-06-21 Thread Miguel Rubio-Roy
** Description changed:

It would be particularly useful for Thunderbird that closing it's last
window doesn't imply quitting the application. Maybe it's something that
should be addressed at a more general level, or there's already a
solution to it I have not yet found out.

From a user experience point of view, it doesn't make much sense that closing
the main window, while for example having the activity window open, keeps the
app running, but doing the same thing without any other window open quits the
application.
Closing all Thunderbird windows but not quitting would allow to declutter the
screen and at the same time keep checking for new mail (which would show up on
Ubuntu's messaging icon and Thunderbird launcher).

- In my opinion this should actually be the behavior for all applications. See
also:
+ In my opinion this should actually be the behavior for all applications.

  Ubuntu 13.10 (Saucy Salamander)
  Thunderbird 24.4.0
everything up to date as of 10/04/2014

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 603402]

2014-04-30 Thread Miguel Rubio-Roy
(In reply to WADA from comment #27)
 -Problem of this bug;
   - Because server doesn't notify flag status change via IDLE,
Tb can't know flag status change of mails at server Mbox via IDLE.
   - Tb's expectaion of server notifies flag status change via IDLE is never
RFC violation, because flag status change notification via IDLE is
 SHOULD.
   - Server's behavior is never RFC violation, because flag status change
 notification
via IDLE is SHOULD, is never MUST.
   - Unfortunately, some major IMAP servers don't notify flag status change
 via IDLE,
and Gmail IMAP is an example of such server.

Dear WADA,

How do other email clients deal with this situation on the commonly huge
IMAP folders of Gmail ?

I think this is a rather critical bug of Thunderbird. As you say, some
major IMAP servers don't notify flag status change via IDLE, and Tb
should be able to deal with this situation OOB. If I understand
correctly, the workaround only works well with small IMAP folders.

Are there plans to fix this 2.5 years old bug ?

Regards,

Thunderbird incorrectly shows some Gmail archived messages as unread
  via IMAP

Status in Mozilla Thunderbird Mail and News:
  Confirmed
Status in “thunderbird” package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: thunderbird

  Steps to reproduce:
  1) Wait for a few messages to arrive in Inbox, thus being marked as unread.
  2) Mark all of them as read, then archive them.
  3) Click on All Mail folder.

  Actual Results:
Only one of recently archived messages is marked as read (usually the newest
one), the rest must be marked as read again.

  Expected Results:
All of recently marked as read in Inbox and archived mails should be marked
as read in All Mail folder, too.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1261060] Re: sometime empathy chat dialogs open empty/with a negative unread count

2014-04-27 Thread Miguel Rubio-Roy
The bug has been solved for 3.8.6-0ubuntu10

Does the following link mean that the patched version will only be deployed
with Ubuntu 14.10 ?
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/empathy/3.8.6-0ubuntu10

If so, I'd like to insist that this is an important bug that severely
hinters empathy usability and need to be corrected ASAP.

the main window, while for example having the activity window open, keeps the
app running, but doing the same thing without any other window open quits the
application.
Closing all Thunderbird windows but not quitting would allow to declutter the
screen and at the same time keep checking for new mail (which would show up on
Ubuntu's messaging icon and Thunderbird launcher).

In my opinion this should actually be the behavior for all applications. See

Title:
Thunderbird quits on closing last window

Status in “thunderbird” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
It would be particularly useful for Thunderbird that closing it's last
window doesn't imply quitting the application. Maybe it's something
that should be addressed at a more general level, or there's already a
solution to it I have not yet found out.
