2020-06-26 Thread Mike Salvatore
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Your bug report is more likely to get attention if it is made in
English, since this is the language understood by the majority of Ubuntu
developers. Additionally, please only mark a bug as "security" if it
shows evidence of allowing attackers to cross privilege boundaries or to
directly cause loss of data/privacy. Please feel free to report any
other bugs you may find.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1832337] [NEW] Require password when starting usb-creator

2019-06-11 Thread Mike Salvatore
Public bug reported:

Because usb-creator performs privileged actions, it should require
authentication prior to starting. policykit-desktop-privileges should be
modified so that usb-creator requires password authentication prior to
starting.

While it was a deliberate design decision to allow usb-creator to
perform mounting and writing without authentication (see
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/policykit-desktop-
privileges/+bug/1568149), this decision should be revisited. Allowing
the use of usb-creator without authentication presents an unnecessary
security risk.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1825396] Re: "Open in Terminal" returns "Text ended before matching quote was found for '"

2019-04-22 Thread Mike Salvatore
Upstream bug: https://gitlab.gnome.org/World/ShellExtensions/desktop-

Title:
"Open in Terminal" returns "Text ended before matching quote was found
  for '"

Status in gnome-shell-extension-desktop-icons:
  New
Status in gnome-shell-extension-desktop-icons package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Attempting to open a Desktop folder named "aaa'bbb" (without double
quotes) using the "Open in Terminal" option from the context menu
  produces a notification message stating:

  Execution of "x-terminal-emulator --working-directory=/home/...
Text ended before matching quote was found for '. (The text was
"x-terminal-emulator --working-directory=/home/x/Desktop/aaa'bbb")

This suggests improper escaping (possible security impact with command
  injection).

  Steps to reproduce:

  1. On the Ubuntu 19.04.0 amd64 Desktop, right-click, and select "New folder"
  2. Enter the following folder name and press Enter: aaa'bbb
  3. Right-click on the newly created folder icon
  4. Select "Open in Terminal"
  5. The above notification pops up, no terminal window opens.

  The expected outcome would be:
  5. A terminal window opens in directory ~/Desktop/aaa'bbb

Ability to launch/view apps from lock screen

Status in gdm3 package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
I've come across a problem where I am able to perform several tasks
from the lock screen which should not be possible. This includes:

- Viewing desktop windows currently running as the logged-in user
- Launching programs as the logged-in user
- Closing windows of running programs
- Enabling/disabling network interfaces and joining networks

I don't believe there's a way to interact with the running programs -
it's only possible to start a program and view its preview thumbnail.

Another note is that I had to press Super+L twice to lock the screen,
which has been mentioned in other recent bugs.

The unfortunate part is that my PC has been running for days and I
have absolutely no idea how I got it into this state. I upgraded it
from 18.04 to 18.10 earlier this week. It was a clean 18.04 install
from a few months back. I haven't done anything that I would consider
  a desktop customisation.

I've taken some crude hand-held video of the issue.

  https://youtu.be/TjH9KUjA6pY

I could not show the entire Thunderbird window as it displayed my
  email address. However it's there.

  Screen locking issue data leak~

Status in gnome-screensaver package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
Closing laptop (HP-ProBook-6470b) lid lights go out and appears to
  sleep.

Opening lid displays last desktop & window contents, mouse cursor does
move around but screen cannot be interacted with.

Then screen will flash repeatedly, 10 times or so.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1787740] Re: package libgs9:amd64 9.22~dfsg+1-0ubuntu1.1 failed to install/upgrade: problemas de dependência - deixando desconfigurado

2018-08-21 Thread Mike Salvatore
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.
