[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1885344] Re: nvidia-340 340.108-0ubuntu2: nvidia-340 kernel module failed to build (oem 5.6 kernel)
Same problem here. It also affects: 5.8.0-34-generic $ lsb_release -a No LSB modules are available. Distributor ID: Ubuntu Description:Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS Release:20.04 Codename: focal $ uname -a Linux vanhalen 5.8.0-34-generic #37~20.04.2-Ubuntu SMP Thu Dec 17 14:53:00 UTC 2020 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux Also, this is valid: https://askubuntu.com/questions/969352 /uninstalling-and-then-reinstalling-nvidia-384-kills-colord In other words the shell bug is still there, however, fixing manually does not fix the problem, as some header problem stops the creation of the module. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1093399] Re: Separate X screen not working, regression presumed.
Thanks for your interest, Christopher M. Penalver. Original bug was reported on a Dell Dimension E520. This machine has been moved and has no longer access to a second monitor. The test with trusty was done with a laptop Toshiba Satellite A665. I'm afraid I've been mainly using LTS versions. I can only say that it worked well on 10.04, but it doesn't in 12.04. Does the bug regarding saving the X config file has been reported? Regards. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1093399 Title: Separate X screen not working, regression presumed. Then upgraded. Then try to set up 2 separate X screens (2 monitors). It didn't work on nouveau, nvidia-current, nvidia (post release updates), and nvidia- experimental-310. First the 2nd monitor is complete blank, with an X as a mouse cursor (X Windows default?). 'killall nautilus' shows the default background, but no top panel, no launcher, and same mouse cursor. Launching any instance of nautilus blanks the screen again. unning 'DISPLAY=:0.1 compiz --replace' offers a little improvement: top panel appears, as the unity launcher. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1093399] Re: Separate X screen not working, regression presumed.
Hi, I downloaded and installed trusty. I installed the 331.38 nvidia driver, updated the system with 'Software Updater', and rebooted. I'm not able to set separate X screens because there's a bug on nvidia- settings that won't allow me to save the configuration (option: 'Save to X Configuration File'). Not able to save it to /etc/X11/xorg.conf, and not able to save to a file on my user home directory. There's no different if I run nvidia-settings as a regular user or as root (gksudo nvidia-settings). I guess I should report this bug as a new one? [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1231637] [NEW] Firefox lost Unity integration: maximize window shows regular window bar.
Public bug reported: Firefox no longer maximizes as a Unity application. It keeps its main window bar, including close, minimize, and maximize buttons, at all times. This happens even when maximized. I've tried maximizing and unmaximizing using all know methods (double click, pressing button, and dragging windows to the global panel), but no luck. Here's a screenshot of the Firefox windows maximized and showing buttons on both the regular window, and in the global menu: http://i.imgur.com/L6zbymJ.png?1 This happens in all Firefox profiles. Same problem, here. Location: Dallas, Texas. It occurs either if you choose Yahoo or Google as provider. When run from the command line there are two concerning messages. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1093399] [NEW] Separate X screen not working, regression presumed.
Public bug reported: Unable to set up 2 separate X screens on 12.04 (this works on 10.04). What I did: fresh install of Ubuntu 64bits. Then upgraded. Then try to set up 2 separate X screens (2 monitors). It didn't work on nouveau, nvidia-current, nvidia (post release updates), and nvidia-experimental-310. The behaviour is the same regardless of the driver used: First the 2nd monitor is complete blank, with an X as a mouse cursor (X Windows default?) . This follow the same description follow in this bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/885989 'killall nautilus' shows the default background, but no top panel, no launcher, and same mouse cursor. Launching any instance of nautilus blanks the screen again. I dug a little further and I found this bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/661450 running 'DISPLAY=:0.1 compiz --replace' offers a little improvement: top panel appears, as the unity launcher. However, no windows decorations and all windows open stick to the upper left corner. They can't be moved. After restarting the machine all back to zero. I went to #ubuntu, but there's no other advice besides install ppas like swat and edgers. I'm willing to provide any other information and make any tests you request. Kind Regards. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1030630] Re: System freeze on logout and shutdown
Thanks Robert Ancell (robert-ancell) for changing the status. I had experienced no shutdown problems running the nouveau driver for several weeks. However, I got back to the Nvidia driver. I bought the Humble Indie Bundle 6, and nouveau was VERY lagy. Now the problem is back: 3 out 5 times I try to shutdown my machine, it does not power off but gets stuck either on a black screen with a horizontal purple bar on top, or in an infinite loop in the Ubuntu's dot animation. I would run test, or upload any log you ask me to. I appreciate your response. I don't know how to troubleshoot this problem myself, so I would gladly provide more information if needed. From the symptoms, I would say it is similar to this bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/767927 (purple bar on top some of the times). When I am successfully able to logout. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1026860] Re: Firefox 14 broke youtube HTML5 player
Thanks for responding Charles Profitt (cprofitt) . Update1: http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/932553 Several users describe this as a youtube/Google problem. Update2: The problem seem to be gone without even restarting FF. This made me thing it actually was an external problem not related to FF.
