[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1885344] Re: nvidia-340 340.108-0ubuntu2: nvidia-340 kernel module failed to build (oem 5.6 kernel)

2021-01-07 Thread Pablo Piaggio
Same problem here. It also affects: 5.8.0-34-generic

$ lsb_release -a
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description:Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS
Release:20.04
Codename: focal

$ uname -a
Linux vanhalen 5.8.0-34-generic #37~20.04.2-Ubuntu SMP Thu Dec 17 14:53:00 UTC
2020 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Also, this is valid: https://askubuntu.com/questions/969352
/uninstalling-and-then-reinstalling-nvidia-384-kills-colord

In other words the shell bug is still there, however, fixing manually
does not fix the problem, as some header problem stops the creation of
the module.

Any alternative? nouveau is heating up my system.

Thanks in advance,

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1514160] [NEW] contradictory geometry description

2015-11-08 Thread Pablo Piaggio
Public bug reported:

gnome-terminal's man pages describes option --geometry as:

--geometry=GEOMETRY
X geometry specification (see "X" man page), can be specified
once per window to be opened.

which is basically size in pixels and a position in the format
WIDTHx‐HEIGHT+XOFF+YOFF, e.g. 1280x720+0+0

However, gnome-terminal --help-all describes --geometry as:

--geometry=GEOMETRY Set the window size; for example:
80x24, or 80x24+200+200 (COLSxROWS+X+Y)

in other words, as columns by rows of text.

Currently gnome-terminal in an updated 14.04 works following the latter
definition, i.e., --geometry describes columns and rows of text.

Regards.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1093399] Re: Separate X screen not working, regression presumed.

2014-02-16 Thread Pablo Piaggio
Thanks for your interest, Christopher M. Penalver.

Original bug was reported on a Dell Dimension E520. This machine has
been moved and has no longer access to a second monitor. The test with
trusty was done with a laptop Toshiba Satellite A665.

I'm afraid I've been mainly using LTS versions. I can only say that it
worked well on 10.04, but it doesn't in 12.04.

Does the bug regarding saving the X config file has been reported?

Regards.

Status in “xserver-xorg-video-nouveau” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
Unable to set up 2 separate X screens on 12.04 (this works on 10.04).
What I did: fresh install of Ubuntu 64bits. Then upgraded. Then try to
set up 2 separate X screens (2 monitors). It didn't work on nouveau,
nvidia-current, nvidia (post release updates), and nvidia-
  experimental-310.

First the 2nd monitor is complete blank, with an X as a mouse cursor
(X Windows default?). 'killall nautilus' shows the default background,
but no top panel, no launcher, and same mouse cursor. Launching any
instance of nautilus blanks the screen again. unning 'DISPLAY=:0.1
compiz --replace' offers a little improvement: top panel appears, as
the unity launcher. However, no windows decorations and all windows
open stick to the upper left corner. They can't be moved. After
restarting the machine all back to zero.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1093399] Re: Separate X screen not working, regression presumed.

2014-02-13 Thread Pablo Piaggio
Hi,

I downloaded and installed trusty. I installed the 331.38 nvidia driver,
updated the system with 'Software Updater', and rebooted.

I'm not able to set separate X screens because there's a bug on nvidia-
settings that won't allow me to save the configuration (option: 'Save to
X Configuration File'). Not able to save it to /etc/X11/xorg.conf, and
not able to save to a file on my user home directory.

There's no different if I run nvidia-settings as a regular user or as
root (gksudo nvidia-settings).

I guess I should report this bug as a new one?

Regards.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1231637] [NEW] Firefox lost Unity integration: maximize window shows regular window bar.

2013-09-26 Thread Pablo Piaggio
Public bug reported:

Firefox no longer maximizes as a Unity application. It keeps its main
window bar, including close, minimize, and maximize buttons, at all
times. This happens even when maximized.

I've tried maximizing and unmaximizing using all know methods (double
click, pressing button, and dragging windows to the global panel), but
no luck.

Here's a screenshot of the Firefox windows maximized and showing buttons
on both the regular window, and in the global menu:

http://i.imgur.com/L6zbymJ.png?1

This happens in all Firefox profiles.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Can't Apply Settings During Setup Weather wizard

Status in “indicator-weather” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I'm unable to complete the Setup wizard for indicator-weather. At the
very end of the setup, clicking the Apply button does nothing; it
does not save my settings and it does not close the dialog, yet the
dialog is not locked up (I can hit the back or cancel buttons

remains highlighted and the dialog doesn't go away unless click

This is a severe bug (especially for first-time-users who wouldn't
already have a configuration file generated by a prior version's
  installation and setup).

  Reproduce:
  1) sudo apt-get install indicator-weather
  2) start indicator-weather

  5) Click add button
  6) search for 75845
  7) Select Groveton, Texas from drop down

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1171282] Re: Can't Apply Settings During Setup Weather wizard

2013-05-13 Thread Pablo Piaggio
Same problem, here. Location: Dallas, Texas.

It occurs either if you choose Yahoo or Google as provider.

When run from the command line there are two concerning messages. This
one when the program is started:

/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/gobject/constants.py:24: Warning:
g_boxed_type_register_static: assertion `g_type_from_name (name) == 0' failed
  import gobject._gobject

And this one when the 'Apply' button is pressed:

Traceback (most recent call last):
  File /usr/bin/indicator-weather, line 1883, in on_apply
(location_code, location_details) = self.location.export_location_details()
  File /usr/bin/indicator-weather, line 405, in export_location_details
return (self.location_code, self.location_details)
AttributeError: Location instance has no attribute 'location_code'

The last one looks like the reason it is not possible to set a location.

Kind Regards.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1093399] [NEW] Separate X screen not working, regression presumed.

2012-12-23 Thread Pablo Piaggio
Public bug reported:

Unable to set up 2 separate X screens on 12.04 (this works on 10.04).

What I did: fresh install of Ubuntu 64bits. Then upgraded. Then try to
set up 2 separate X screens (2 monitors).

It didn't work on nouveau, nvidia-current, nvidia (post release
updates), and nvidia-experimental-310.

The behaviour is the same regardless of the driver used:

First the 2nd monitor is complete blank, with an X as a mouse cursor (X
Windows default?) . This follow the same description follow in this bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/885989

'killall nautilus' shows the default background, but no top panel, no
launcher, and same mouse cursor. Launching any instance of nautilus
blanks the screen again.

I dug a little further and I found this bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/661450

running 'DISPLAY=:0.1 compiz --replace' offers a little improvement: top
panel appears, as the unity launcher. However, no windows decorations
and all windows open stick to the upper left corner. They can't be
moved.

After restarting the machine all back to zero.

I went to #ubuntu, but there's no other advice besides install ppas like
swat and edgers.

I'm willing to provide any other information and make any tests you
request.

Kind Regards.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1030630] Re: System freeze on logout and shutdown

2012-09-30 Thread Pablo Piaggio
Thanks Robert Ancell (robert-ancell) for changing the status.

I had experienced no shutdown problems running the nouveau driver for
several weeks. However, I got back to the Nvidia driver.

I bought the Humble Indie Bundle 6, and nouveau was VERY lagy.

Now the problem is back: 3 out 5 times I try to shutdown my machine, it
does not power off but gets stuck either on a black screen with a
horizontal purple bar on top, or in an infinite loop in the Ubuntu's dot
animation.

I would run test, or upload any log you ask me to.

I appreciate your response.
Regards.

I uninstalled the Nvidia driver and the problem seems does not present

This behavior, then, it is related to the Nvidia driver.

Should I refile the bug? Do I need to enter more information?

In the last days I received a kernel update, an nvidia update and some

The problem still remains. My guess now is that it has to do with power
saving issues.

I'm getting very desperate here. I would appreciate if any can take a
look.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1033219] [NEW] Main Gimp window looses focus every time an option is used

2012-08-05 Thread Pablo Piaggio
Public bug reported:

In order to use the Gimp menu, the main window has to be selected.

However, after running almost any option from the menu, the focus does
not return the main window but changes aleatory to one of the other
windows (either Toolbox or Layers).

Those windows do not have menus, so you neither can use Alt+ to get to
the menus nor take advantage of the HUD.

I could say that this happens with any option that launch a dialog

Color - Hue-Saturation

This also happens when you switch to another workspace and come back.

Title:
Main Gimp window looses focus every time an option is used

Status in “gimp” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
In order to use the Gimp menu, the main window has to be selected.

However, after running almost any option from the menu, the focus does
not return the main window but changes aleatory to one of the other
  windows (either Toolbox or Layers).

Those windows do not have menus, so you neither can use Alt+ to get to
the menus nor take advantage of the HUD.

I could say that this happens with any option that launch a dialog
  window. For instance:

  Color - Hue-Saturation
Filter - Blur - Gaussian Blur

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1026860] Re: Firefox 14 broke youtube HTML5 player

2012-07-19 Thread Pablo Piaggio
Thanks for responding Charles Profitt (cprofitt) .

Update1: http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/932553

Several users describe this as a youtube/Google problem.

Update2: The problem seem to be gone without even restarting FF. This
made me thing it actually was an external problem not related to FF.

Regards.
