[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1762818] Re: Regression: Upgrading from 17.10 to 18.04 reduces resolution available on monitor
A victim of some other fix. This regression can be prevented by adding amdgpu.dc=0 to the kernel command line. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1762818 Title: Regression: Upgrading from 17.10 to 18.04 reduces resolution available on monitor Status in xorg package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Symptom: booting 18.04 kernel reduces resolution available while 17.10 kernel (on 18.04) does not I have a 3 identical monitor setup - all at 2560x1600 native resolution. Which driver did you get working in the end? The CPU is an Intel 4570S with HD4600 graphics (also supporting 3 heads at the same time). However, I can only get 2 monitors (any 2, but not all 3) working. All monitors are identical 1600x1200 (NEC LCD2070NX). The KDE systemsettings GUI helpfully shows icons for all 3 monitors, but one is always greyed out, and attempting to enable it emits Failed to set mode: Invalid argument in Xorg.0.log. Xrandr compians Configure crtc 2 failed. However, it's clear that the graphics hardware can handle 3 outputs, since it refers to pipe 0, pipe 1 and pipe 2 in the logs. Google doesn't show anything very helpful, except to warn that in older graphics hardware (definitely not this motherboard) there may be more output connectors than graphics pipelines, and that in the HD4600 there are only 2x PLL, so 2 of the monitors need to be identically clocked (as they are). This also affects the xorg-edgers packages, as of yesterday, so it seems to be an upstream problem. Xorg.0.log attached. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 898986] Re: Printing does not work on Samsung CLP-610ND
@Johann, thank you for that pointer. I had tried the official Samsung driver earlier which has the world's worst installer and on printed to half the page width. Using the latest driver from bchemnet I found the following: * Using the Samsung Configurator meant no print jobs came out and I was constantly told about non-existent paper jams * Using system-config-printer with DNS-SD/LPD printed and also claimed paper jams via notification popups * Using system-config-printer with Jetdirect printed and there were no popups but the printer icon and successfully completed job icons all have explanation marks saying there were paper jams * I did some test prints including the multi-coloured text which doesn't come out with Samsung's PCL and was murky with Samsung's Windows SPL-C driver That leads to the following conclusions: * Samsung's printers do not do PCL emulation correctly * There are several open source SPL-C drivers but none of them work correctly * Samsung's current binary SPL-C driver does generate correct output * Samsung's engineers should be ashamed at the packaging and components of their driver * The bchemnet repackaging undoes most of the Samsung packaging and security issues * Use as little Samsung code as possible (eg only use the Configurator to access scanner functionality - not present in my printer) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to foo2zjs in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/898986 Title: Printing does not work on Samsung CLP-610ND Status in “foo2zjs” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in “splix” package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in “system-config-printer” package in Ubuntu: Invalid Bug description: I added a Samsung CLP-610ND via the gui and it auto-picked a driver that doesn't work (foo2qpdl). The printer machinery hums but no paper comes out. Using cups I changed the driver to the enigmatically named 2.0.0 (en) which is actually the splix driver and the native language of the printer. However no print jobs come out as this driver needs CMS files installed. SpliX Cannot open CMS file /usr/share/cups/profiles/samsung/CLP- 610cms (2) This need for CMS files is mandatory and mentioned in the INSTALL file for splix. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1016818] Re: Immediate crash on startup
I submitted the crash numerous times to Mozilla. It didn't give me any feedback other than saying I could relaunch. In any event I did use apport to report the bug here and the doc you posted says Note that the Apport hook provided from Firefox and Thunderbird 13 will automatically attach the ID's of crash reports you submitted to Mozilla, so you don't need to look for these manually as long as you submit the bug report using Apport! That would appear not to work, nor do I have any idea if the mozilla submission opened anything, and if it did what the ids are. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to thunderbird in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1016818 Title: Immediate crash on startup Status in “thunderbird” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Thunderbird received a version bump today. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 869685] Re: Always fails to install 3rd party debs
That isn't the file in question - Osmos is something I installed while the system was running natty a few months ago. I had to do a fresh install of oneiric but kept my home directory so you are seeing older detritus. The file in question from this error message is Google Music Manager but it looks like you have to be part of their beta program. However this also happened with Chrome and Skype deb packages downloaded from their respective web sites. dpkg -i was quite happy to open and install the packages so their was nothing inherently wrong with them, Chances are that was is happening is software centre getting upset with the packages for some reason like the one given above. But instead of saying that in the user display you just get Internal Error - couldn't open filename. ** Changed in: software-center (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to software-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/869685 Title: Always fails to install 3rd party debs Status in “software-center” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: After a fresh reinstall of my system I downloaded various .deb files from places that don't have a repository.
