2013-02-18 Thread Schmankerl
I get that freeze everytime while playing halflife for some minutes on
native steam client. It locks the xserver therefore I have to switch to
an other terminal (Strg+Alt+Fx) to reboot the system. In this case
AltGr+Print+K has no effect to kill the xserver.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1080350]

2012-11-29 Thread Schmankerl
Same situation on my Lenovo T500 Notebook with the following card:
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI RV635
[Mobility Radeon HD 3650]
If my Notebook is in IDLE-state the temperature stays about 75° and I hear the
noise of the fan nearly all the time. Heavy load increases temp to over 90° and
it will shutdown due to the overheating limits of kernel.
My workaround is switching to intel hd graphics in bios because setting power
profile to low seems to be slower than using the integrated graphics adapter.
Thats obviously no real solution because I want to use the full power of the
ati graphics card without switching to fglrx driver.

Laptop backlight brightness increases/decreases 2 steps each time

Status in “gnome-power-manager” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Hi,

  I have a Lenovo 3000 N200 laptop which uses a Nvidia Geforce Go 7300
  graphics chip.

I noticed this issue in Lubuntu 11.10 with the Nvidia binary driver
and also after booting a Xubuntu 12.04 CD (using the Nouveau driver
there I think). As far as I can remember, this issue wasn't present
with either Ubuntu 8.04 or Xubuntu 9.10.

The laptop has 8 possible backlight brightness settings. At the
desktop, increasing or decreasing brightness (by pressing Fn-F10 or
Fn-F11) causes the brightness to increase or decrease by 2 steps
instead of 1. However, in text mode -- after switching with Ctrl-
Alt-F1 -- changing brightness works as it should, in single steps.

  I noticed that the page
http://forum.notebookreview.com/acer/434638-linux-acer-1410-1810tz-1810t.html
mentions a fix for a similar issue with Acer laptops. That fix adds a line to
/etc/rc.local:
echo N /sys/module/video/parameters/brightness_switch_enabled

Applying that to my laptop fixed the screen brightness double-stepping
at the desktop, so now changing brightness works as it should. However
after doing that, the brightness cannot be changed at all when in text
  mode.

internal microphone volume.
But I have to open the volume application every time I connect my headset and
change to correct output device manually to get some sound therefore please
backport to precise.

Bug description:
The eeepc has a combined hole shared by the external microphone and
headphone. Currently the default behaviour in Ubuntu is for headphone.
(The music comes from headphone and the internal speaker is muted when
  plugging the headphone).

This bug is intended for discussing and tracking the possibility and
practicability of the support both headphone/microphone jack sensing
in Linux driver or it is only achievable to support either one.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1000270] Re: Laptop backlight brightness increases/decreases 2 steps each time

2012-08-01 Thread Schmankerl
Same problem on Ubuntu 12.04 (3.2.0-26-generic) and Thinkpad T500

echo 0 | sudo tee /sys/module/video/parameters/brightness_switch_enabled

or

echo 4 /proc/acpi/ibm/cmos
echo 5 /proc/acpi/ibm/cmos

works - ~9 brightness steps instead of ~5 steps

dmesg: thinkpad_acpi: detected a 8-level brightness capable ThinkPad

Title:

However
after doing that, the brightness cannot be changed at all when in text
  mode.
