[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1809635] Re: nautilus-desktop icons rearrange themselves upon relogin gnome

2019-01-12 Thread Talib Pierson
** Description changed:

This bug occurred on a previous installation of Ubuntu that was also
Cosmic gnome. That one was used for years and was originally 16.04. I
- reinstalled Ubuntu and the bug still occurs. It might have to do with a
- hardware button I have on my System76 laptop: a sleep button. It makes
- the computer's hard-disk sound like it stopped spinning, which I think
- is true. The same happens when I close the laptop lid. This also
- sometimes causes the Ubuntu dock to show on the login screen, which is a
- separate bug, but may be related.
+ reinstalled Ubuntu and the bug still occurs.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1809635] Re: nautilus-desktop icons rearrange themselves upon relogin gnome

2018-12-23 Thread Talib Pierson
By the way, I checked the "Keep aligned" box that is available by right-
clicking the desktop. I also tried to replicate the bug by putting the
computer to sleep and then waking it up (being prompted to enter my
password at the unlock screen) but it did not happen then. Next, I will
test rebooting.

Okay, I can confirm that rebooting produces the same behavior. I think
the reason some of the icons move under the dock is that I have the
setting "Auto-hide the Dock" on. In my nautilus settings, "Show Hidden
Files" is on, but I don't think I've made any other customization. My
installation is a minimal desktop installation; ubuntu-minimal is
installed with all, including recommended, dependencies.

I replicated the bug just now by logging out and then logging in, so
maybe it doesn't have to do with the computer going to sleep.

Title:
nautilus-desktop icons rearrange themselves upon relogin gnome

Status in nautilus package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
This bug occurred on a previous installation of Ubuntu that was also
Cosmic gnome. That one was used for years and was originally 16.04. I
reinstalled Ubuntu and the bug still occurs. It might have to do with
a hardware button I have on my System76 laptop: a sleep button. It
makes the computer's hard-disk sound like it stopped spinning, which I
think is true. The same happens when I close the laptop lid. This also
sometimes causes the Ubuntu dock to show on the login screen, which is
a separate bug, but may be related.

  Description: Ubuntu 18.10
  Release: 18.10

I expected my icons to remain in the same place upon login or relogin or
unlock.
What instead happened is that my icons were rearranged, apparently to the
leftmost part of the desktop, top to bottom.

Bug description:
When I close the laptop lid, the screen locks, but when I start it up again,

back in, even though I am not. The glitched session seems in between a vanilla
gnome session and my Ubuntu session. I can try to open applications with the
Ubuntu dock, but they will not open. The top bar doesn't have a log out or
settings, more like vanilla gnome in Debian. Sometimes white pixels will appear
at the top edge of the screen near this area. Sometimes the lock screen will
appear, but not as usual. The Ubuntu dock appears even though I haven't entered
my passcode yet. I should send screenshots. I wasn't always able to take
successful screenshots, but I have some. I don't believe this to be much of a
security issue, because I don't appear to be able to open any applications,
although it does show what files I have on my desktop. I am using a system76

The bug reoccurred just now. The bar behavior did not occur, but the
weird black screen thing did, and I coudn't interact with any of my
windows that appeared to be open.

You instructed me to make any further comments on the other report, but
I think that it is possible that bug 1804718 is not a duplicate because
I cannot open the applications; it only plays the animation. I may be
wrong, but I'll post more screenshots so you can see. It's possible my
memory is a little off, because a lot of other unrelated issues have
occurred so I think the images are most accurate.

Status in gnome-session package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
When I close the laptop lid, the screen locks, but when I start it up again,
instead of prompting me to enter my password at the lock screen, I appear to be
back in, even though I am not.
I am using a system76
laptop.

reinstalled ubuntu-session and ubuntu-desktop already. I know for sure this is
