[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1190097] Re: Nautilus tries but fails to auto-install applications needed to open files of a given type
Thanks, I've just run into this as well. For reference, the bug appeared because I made PyXDG stricter about parsing .desktop files. I'm aware that the break is somewhat annoying, but I think it's ultimately better to throw an exception than to return a potentially incorrect/incomplete object. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1190097 Title: Nautilus tries but fails to auto-install applications needed to open files of a given type Status in “app-install-data-ubuntu” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Status in “nautilus” package in Ubuntu: Invalid Status in “sessioninstaller” package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Bug description: I'm running Nautilus 3.6.3 on Ubuntu 13.10 (Saucy). When I double click a file in Nautilus and there is no application installed which can open the file, Nautilus will try to auto-install an application but the auto-install hangs. Specifically, for example: 1. Make sure that Gnumeric is not installed on your system. 2. Create a file with extension .gnumeric and double click it in Nautlius. Nautilus will report: Could not display "finance.gnumeric". There is no application installed for "Gnumeric spreadsheet" files. Do you want to search for an application to open this file? Click Yes. You'll now see a dialog that looks like this: Searching for suitable software to open files Files requires to install [sic] software to open files of the following file type: Gnumeric spreadsheet The dialog has a progress bar, which will briefly pulse and then stop. You can now only press Cancel. A glance at the code shows that Nautilus is trying to send a DBus message to PackageKit to perform the install. There are apparently some PackageKit components on my system (e.g. libpackagekit-glib2-14 is installed), but something is not working. This seemed to happen again with a recent Firefox update on 13.04. E.g. I add a 'w' keyword for Wikipedia, so typing 'w Ubuntu' in the URL bar does a Wikipedia search directly. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 115052] Re: [Upstream] [hardy] 100% CPU and freeze when scrolling inside document that has embedded EPS graphics
I'm still experiencing this with Libreoffice 3.6, and now 4.0 (from the Libreoffice PPA) on Quantal. ** Changed in: libreoffice (Ubuntu) Status: Invalid => New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to libreoffice in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/115052 Title: [Upstream] [hardy] 100% CPU and freeze when scrolling inside document that has embedded EPS graphics Status in The OpenOffice.org Suite: Confirmed Status in “libreoffice” package in Ubuntu: New Status in “openoffice.org” package in Ubuntu: Won't Fix Bug description: Binary package hint: openoffice.org Hello, I have a document, created with OOo 2.1, edited with OOo 2.2 (after upgrading to Feisty) which has four embedded EPS graphics (linked to external files). Everytime I scroll over these images, Openoffice shows an empty box with "Broken image" inside it (translated back from German, maybe different wording), then freezes completely for two seconds, while refreshing the EPS image. During this time the CPU usage is at 100%. I would expect OOo to cache these files (at least the rendered images) so they "stay" in the text, like it does with other graphics formats. It seems this does not happen. "strace" shows that Openoffice is indeed hanging in a "read(...)" call, with a file handle that belongs to the linked object (EPS file). But I don't understand why it takes two seconds for Openoffice to open a 20kb EPS file. As you might imagine, this is extremely annoying. I am preparing a scientific paper with Openoffice and so far it has been very pleasant to work with, almost up to par with LaTeX :-), except for this major annoyance. I can provide the document in question, but I would ask not to publish it in the bugtracker. Thank you! [Desktop-packages] [Bug 993440] Re: No suspend option for critical battery state in power settings UI
This seems particularly pressing since Hibernate is disabled by default, so only the 'Power off' option can be selected. I was caught by this the other day (on Quantal) - I saw my battery getting low, and assumed it would suspend or hibernate, but when I plugged it back in and turned it on, I found it had completely shut down. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/993440 Title: No suspend option for critical battery state in power settings UI Status in “gnome-control-center” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: The gnome-control-center power UI offers 2 options for "When power is critically low": Hibernate and Power Off. There should be a 'Suspend' option as well, for a couple reasons: 1) Some people (like me) want their computer to suspend when it reaches a critical low-battery state 2) We offer 'Suspend' as an option for the lid closed action, so we should offer it as a critical battery option for consistency (Note that neither hibernate nor power off is selected by default in the "When power is critically low" combobox on a fresh install. Instead the combobox has no selection at all. This is probably a separate bug) To reproduce: 1) Launch the Power settings app 1a) Observe the "When power is critically low" combobox; nothing is selected 2) Click the "When power is critically low" combobox Expected results: Suspend is an option for critical-battery action Actual results: Suspend is not an option for critical-battery action ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.04 Package: gnome-control-center 1:3.4.1-0ubuntu1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.2.0-24.37-generic 3.2.14 Uname: Linux 3.2.0-24-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia ApportVersion: 2.0.1-0ubuntu7 Architecture: amd64 Date: Wed May 2 13:46:02 2012 InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 10.10 "Maverick Meerkat" - Beta amd64 (20100901.1) ProcEnviron: TERM=xterm PATH=(custom, user) LANG=en_US.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: gnome-control-center UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to precise on 2012-01-26 (96 days ago) usr_lib_gnome-control-center: activity-log-manager-control-center 0.9.4-0ubuntu3 deja-dup22.0-0ubuntu2 gnome-bluetooth 3.2.2-0ubuntu5 indicator-datetime 0.3.94-0ubuntu2 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center/+bug/993440/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
