[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1729887] Re: Drag-and-drop to desktop not possible without copying the file under wayland

2017-12-19 Thread Trev Peterson
I should mention I'm running gnome-flashback (compiz) as this might have
an impact.

Title:
Drag-and-drop to desktop not possible without copying the file under
  wayland

Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
since my upgrade to Ubuntu Desktop 17.10 all files moved with drag-
and-drop from any folder to my desktop are copied but not moved.

Using strg+x and strg+v works. When i open the desktop as a folder
usual drag-and-drop from different folders do work without copying the
  files.

This is wayland related. Ubuntu Desktop 17.10 with Xorg performs like
before and allows normal drag-and-drop from folders to the desktop.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1729887] Re: Drag-and-drop to desktop not possible without copying the file under wayland

2017-12-19 Thread Trev Peterson
This just started happening to me on 17.10. The behavior changes with
the circumstances. I've done several tests and see the following
reproducible behavior:

scenario 1 (moves as expected)
-drag and drop file from Desktop to Desktop/tmp (no nautilus window open) -
File is moved as expected

scenario 2 (bug: copy instead of move):
-open nautilus to Desktop/tmp
-drag and drop file1 from Desktop to Desktop/tmp(nautilus) - Bug: file is
copied not moved

scenario 3 (moves as expected when first moved in nautilus, however, only does
it once):
-open nautilus to Desktop/tmp
-drag and drop file1 from Desktop(nautilus) to Desktop/tmp(nautilus) - file is
moved as expected
-drag and drop file1 from Desktop/tmp(nautilus) to Desktop(nautilus) - file is
moved as expected
-drag and drop file1 from Desktop to Desktop/tmp(nautilus) - file is moved as
expected
-drag and drop file1 from Desktop/tmp(nautilus) to Desktop - file is moved as
expected
-drag and drop file1 from Desktop to Desktop/tmp(nautilus) - Bug: file is copied

I tested this with several different files and types (text, pdf, ods,
etc) to ensure it was not related to type or specific file, the behavior
was the same for all. Closing nautilus window or moving another file
before moving file1 causes the file to be copied instead of moved.

Sorry for the long comment but I hoped this might help the devs isolate
the issue.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1615732] Re: Execution of filter 'Junk check' fails with "Empty cache file"

2016-09-14 Thread Trev Peterson
I have the same issue. It seems like it might be this bug once again:
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=737468

I experience this bug for me and for a client that runs evolution as
well. I suspect it's pretty common. I error out when running mail
filters, downloading mail and moving junk to a physical junk folder.

Title:
Execution of filter 'Junk check' fails with "Empty cache file"

Status in evolution package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I currently use an Evolution setup in which I retrieve email via IMAP
from an unfiltered mailbox, and then use Evolution to automatically
  filter for spam/junk mail.

This process works as expected upon starting Evolution: all email is
retrieved from the mailbox (and thus resides in the Inbox folder,
where it arrived), then it's filtered to identify spam, and then the
spam is moved from the Inbox to a Junk folder.

However, after Evolution has been running for some time (hard to
estimate because it requires an email to be received, but likely 5-10
minutes; it's possible that this is just "one email refresh interval"
but also possible that something else is going on), newly received
email stops being filtered for spam, and all the email remains in the
Inbox. This happens at least in the case of receiving one email at a
time, and most likely in the case where multiple emails are received
  in one send/receive cycle.

When this failure to remove spam/junk happens, there's a yellow banner
at the top of the screen saying, for example (the filename is not
  always the same),

  "Error while performing operation.

Execution of filter 'Junk check' failed: Empty cache file:

/home/ais523/.cache/evolution/mail/1440221975.23984.44@tundra/folders/INBOX/cur/1f/23052"

I checked the contents of the file in question; it appears to be a
copy of the email that was just received, including all headers. (It's
possible that there's a race condition here and that the file was
empty when the filter looked at it, but became populated just after it
errored out, but perhaps something else is going on.)

This behaviour is a problem because it means that either I have to
delete junk mail by hand, or else that I have to repeatedly close and
reopen Evolution so that the automated system will work.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 831308] Re: Evolution crash when copy/move contact between address books

Will this fix be backported to Trusty? Is there a fix for all the LTS
people?

Title:
Evolution crash when copy/move contact between address books

Status in evolution package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in evolution source package in Precise:
  Confirmed
Status in evolution source package in Trusty:
  Confirmed
Status in evolution source package in Utopic:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  [Impact]

Evolution crashes when attempting to merge contacts (e.g. when copying
or moving contacts between address books).

This is rather annoying as the user might not be aware of the cause of
the crash (i.e. that a contact with the same name already exists in
  the destination address book).

The fix is to compile evolution without -Bsymbolic-functions.
Compiling with -Bsymbolic-functions is not supported by upstream
  (https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=594473). The fix for this
issue for Vivid is in bug #1402422.

  [Test case]

  Steps to reproduce:
  - Start evolution
  - Create contact with full name "dummy" in Personal address book
  - Create contact with full name "dummy" in Personal address book

Expected behavior: Message about merging the contact

  Actual behavior:
  (evolution:3262): evolution-util-ERROR **: eab-contact-duplicate-detected.ui:
Invalid type function on line 88: 'eab_contact_display_get_type'
  Trace/breakpoint trap (core dumped)

  [Regression potential]

Regression potential is rather low. There is the possibility that some
plugins rely on the semantic of -Bsymbolic-functions (i.e. have
internal function which are exported and their names clash) but this
seems rather unlikely as all (or at least most) other distributions
  compile without -Bsymbolic-functions.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1310489] Re: xorg.conf overwritten by booting system

2014-07-28 Thread Trev Peterson
How is this not a high priority issue? Deletion of a working config
file should be a high priority, period, shouldn't it? I had a working
14.04 system and ran updates with the result of breakage all over the
system (intel drivers don't run in SNA mode right for me, need UXA to
work properly). Note that is upgrade not dist-upgrade. I'm happy to
help troubleshoot this but it really seems a bad policy to give no
method of keeping a working config. Hope the comments help,

  xorg.conf overwritten by booting system

Status in “ubuntu-drivers-common” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in “xorg” package in Ubuntu:
  In Progress

Bug description:
  Description: Ubuntu 14.04 LTS
  Release: 14.04

  Hello,

I am using a notebook with a quadcore AMD A10 and hybrid graficcard AMD/ATI
Radeon HD 8650G / AMD/ATI Sun XT Radeon HD 8670A/8670M/8690M.
After installing fglrx I generated the xorg.conf in the terminal with 'sudo
aticonfig --adapter=all --initial' and it looked pretty good. Up to this point
I was able to switch between the cards with the commands 'sudo aticonfig
--px-dgpu' for the discrete card and 'sudo aticonfig --px-igpu' for the
intigrated card to save power.
After rebooting I realized that I was no longer able to switch between the
cards and found that the xorg.conf will be overwritten whenever I modified it
and reboot the system. The new (by boot) generated xorg.conf contains not the
relevant information for switing between the cards.
I attached both configuration in one file (xorg.conf.comparison). I will also
provide the atisysteminfo-report.txt so far I will find the place where to
attach.

Edit: I fixed the error -- AIGLX error: failed to open
  /usr/lib64/dri/fglrx_dri.so, error[/usr/lib64/dri/fglrx_dri.so: cannot
open shared object file: No such file or directory] but it changed
not the bug of overwriting the xorg.conf.

  Regards,
  Uwe
