[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1724901] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGSEGV in RRProviderAutoConfigGpuScreen() from xf86AutoConfigOutputDevices() from InitOutput()

2019-07-29 Thread Vince
In #1838192 I reported observing a crash with linux-image-4.15.0-55-generic on
a 16.04 LTS machine.
However the server does not crash with linux-image-4.15.0-47-generic or
linux-image-4.4.0-154-generic.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1838192] Re: X server segfaults immediately at startup

Tried booting the system with linux-image-4.4.0-154-generic. X works on this
kernel.
Tried booting the system with linux-image-4.15.0-47-generic. X works on this
kernel.

Presumably there is some bad interaction between the nvidia module and
4.15.0-55-generic.

Title:
Ubuntu 17.04/17.10: New feature in NetworkManager stops several WiFi
adapters from working (MAC Address Randomization issue)

Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  According to

https://blogs.gnome.org/thaller/2016/08/26/mac-address-spoofing-in-networkmanager-1-4-0/
there is a new privacy feature in the new version of NetworkManager.
This privacy feature can cause some USB WiFi adapters to stop working
while they used to work with older versions of NetworkManager (Ubuntu 16.10
or older).

The purpose of this privacy feature is to get your computer to report a new
random MAC address whenever you connect to a WiFi network.
This privacy feature is especially useful when you connect to public WiFi
networks, so that the operators cannot identify you when you connect multiple
times.

The downside of this privacy feature is that some USB WiFi adapters misbehave
when NetworkManager tries to change their MAC address repeatedly.
The result is that those USB WiFi adapters cannot connect anymore to the WiFi
 network.

  Original report follows:

My Panda USB wi-fi adapter works just fine on 16.10, but when I try to
connect to my wi-fi router in 17.04, GNOME network manager reports
"Connection failed." I did some tinkering, and noticed that my MAC
address for my wifi adapter, according to GNOME, is DIFFERENT every
time I make it forget my wifi settings and try to reconnect. Weird,
right? Any leads on a possible fix or work-around?

I'm running the latest beta of Ubuntu GNOME 17.04, kernel
  4.10.0-19-generic, GNOME 3.24.0.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1689005] [NEW] No way of completely disabling the sensitive zone over buttons

2017-05-06 Thread Vince-Rev
Public bug reported:

This bug is related to this question:
https://askubuntu.com/questions/905348/really-disable-touchpad-over-the-
button-region

Currently, on my laptop, I found no way of completely disabling the
sensitive region over buttons (both movement and touch). Which means
that if I use two hands: one to move, and one to click, as soon as my
"click hand" touch (without clicking) the sensitive region over the
buttons of my touchpad while moving, the pointer stops and the touchpad
switch to the two-finger mode. It would be very nice to have an option,
to COMPLETELY disable the sensitive region over buttons as if they were
physically distinct, like on olders touchpads.

It seems you have a bug from the previous internal patch.
Please run 'ibus reset-config' and 'ibus restart' command.

At least it looks like this fixed the bug for me.

(also this may be fixed upstream, see

When i use controlpaneladd printer, the installation keeps hanging
arond 50%.

I tried the suggestion made by Bruno Nova (brunonova) wrote on 2014-06-18:
However, I then removed the Epson driver, then the Epson repository and key
(using Software Updates) and refreshed the cache.
Then I tried to install the printer again, this time by executing the
system-config-printer command from the terminal -- The installation succeeded.
The scanner is also working.

I also tried to install the printer on netrunner 14.04, via system-
settingsadd printer. the printer installed correctly.

Title:
  installing driver hangs indefinitely

Status in “system-config-printer” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
While installing a printer driver, I get the usual progress bar modal
  window (title: 'Installing driver epson-inkjet-printer-escpr',
content: 'Installing ...'). It just stops and hangs indefinitely at
  about 50% progress though.

I've inspected pstree, and the offending command line seems to be:

  /usr/bin/python /usr/share/system-config-printer/install-
  printerdriver.py epson-inkjet-printer-escpr deb
  http://download.ebz.epson.net/dsc/op/stable/debian/ lsb3.2 main
  E5220FB7014D0FBDA50DFC2BE5E86C008AA65D56

Running it from the command line outputs the following two lines:

  Signature key supplied
  pk.install_signature

.. and then it hangs as well.

I've attached an strace -f of the above command. The trace doesn't
actually end (the process hangs as before), but does stop outputting
  new system calls.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1207812] Re: [Sony VGN-SR29XN_S] Iphone with iOS 7 does not work on Ubuntu

2014-01-03 Thread Vince Stratful
I just installed 1.1.6 from the github repo. It works better, but isn't
perfect. My iPad shows up on my desktop and there is no trust loop, but
full functionality isn't restored and I'm unable to open my device.

This is just going to be a case of waiting til libimobiledevice is
functional again, I don't believe there's anything for Ubuntu to do on
this issue except wait.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1041916] Re: Touchpad of Fujitsu LifeBook AH532 not recognized

2012-10-18 Thread Vince
To the people affected by this bug, I'd recommend trying the driver made
by Dave Turvene mentionned here :

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/606238/comments/220

driver is at http://www.dahetral.com/public-download

unpack the driver to /usr/src/psmouse-alps-dst-1.0/
then :
sudo dkms build psmouse/alps-dst-1.0
sudo dkms install psmouse/alps-dst-1.0
sudo rmmod psmouse sudo modprobe -v psmouse

2012-02-09 Thread Vince
I just add a Linksys WPC600n ultra PCMCIA atapter to my Thinkpad. And
after Ubuntu download and installed the driver.NM shows it and and
connected. Here is how the Linksys and the Intel cards are listed.

Linksys-Broadcom BCM-4321 802.11 a/b/g/n

Intel PRO/Wireless 2915ABG [Galexico 2]Now with the Linksys driver,nm will
connect to both at the same time without crashing.
The driver for the Linksys is listed as wl.
Thanks hope this helps.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 927192] [NEW] bookmarks toolbar doesn't appear on startup of Firefox

2012-02-05 Thread Vince Kimball
Public bug reported:

Upon starting Firefox, the bookmarks toolbar doesn't appear even though
it is enabled. If I disable it (uncheck the menu choice) and re-enable
it, then it does appear normally. Closing Firefox and restarting it
results in the same behavior.

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: rhythmbox

  Ubuntu 10.10 2.6.35-22-generic

In version 0.13.1 Rhythmbox fails to detect DAAP shares
automatically. When trying to connect manually through Music-Connect
to DAAP share... I get the following message: Could not connect to
shared music Cannot resolve hostname (192.168.0.14:3689). No hostname
is entered but only IP so no resolving should be needed.

The share is in fact working correct on another laptop with 10.04
Lucid and Rhythmbox 0.12.8 and it also gets autodetected.
