[Desktop-packages] [Bug 993981] Re: Remmina Fails to Load rdp Plugin (remmina-plugin-rdp.so)

2018-11-15 Thread amias
This happened to me after upgrading to ubuntu 18.10 , i was previously
using the PPA version and the upgrade commented it out, it then
installed a newer version of remmina during the upgrade. to fix this i
needed to uncomment the ppa definition in my

/etc/apt/sources.list.d/remmina-ppa-team-ubuntu-remmina-next-bionic.list

then apt update and apt upgrade

now it works.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1439478] Re: Copy and Paste not Working in 15.04, 15.10, 16.04

2018-08-15 Thread amias
this is still a problem in 18.04.

This is making it hard to use secure passwords because of a lack of
pasting.

lets not let ubuntu drag down the basic level of security because of bug
that was fixed several years ago not being in the latest package.

Bug description:
Remmina is probably one of the top 3 Linux applications "I need
working right" to efficiently complete my work day.

So, I consider it a critical bug that "copy and pasting" between
"local and remote desktops" is not working in the 15.04 beta 2.

This is one of those things, where if this is not fixed, I will have
to return to Ubuntu 14.04, or figure out a way to install a version of
Remmina that actually works correctly in 15.04.

This bug has reared its ugly head before:
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/remmina/+bug/937522

However, the status of that bug seems to be practically closed, so
that's the reason for this new posting. I want to do all I can to get
this bug the attention it needs. Remmina is crucial for my work.

I'm currently dealing with the fact that it crashes a few times a day,
but this "copy and paste not working" is a real deal-breaker for me to
  stay on 15.04.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1615734] Re: Multiple monitors broken

2018-05-30 Thread amias
am seeing this on ubuntu 18.04 with a dell m3800 and OWC thunderbolt 2
dock and 4k iiyama 40 inch screen attach via displayport.

My internal 13inch 4k screen is initialised immediately but the external
monitor tries to sync but often times out.

It looks to me as if this is just an issue with timeouts , surely the
driver can made aware that its trying to sync and external screen so
should allow longer. This seems to be excerbated by my having different
scaling levels on each screen

Sometimes my laptop screen comes back with a strip missing down the side
or the the external monitor is at the wrong resolution.

EVERY time it randommly rearranges my windows and triggers a bug with
scaling in some qt5 apps (virtualbox , notes) where they get scaled up .

Its very annoying having to keep re-arangeing things.

I tried setting monitors.xml to be readonly and it complains , why can i
not fix my layouts ?

Bug description:
I have a Lenovo P50 with Nvidia Optimus (Quadro M1000M), installed with
Ubuntu 16.04 and the recommended Nvidia drivers (361.42).
I added two external monitors connected to DP sockets in the docking station.
I would like to have display shift to those two monitors when the laptop is
docked. One monitor has native resolution of 1680x1050 and the other is
1920x1080. The laptop native resolution is 1920x1080.

  Expected result:
laptop monitor shut off, two external monitors running in native resolution,
display shared on both monitors (not mirrored).

  Process:
I configured the display using the "Displays" applet in the unity control
center. However, pressing "Apply" when changing a specific display setting
(such as resolution, location of screen relative to others, turning on/off),
results in a long period of darkness, usually followed by display falling back
to mirroring of all 3 monitors, using a similar-size screen (either low on all
or high on all with the low-res monitor using panning). The applet remains
frozen for some time, with the dialog "Is the display ok" open but
unresponsive. Later I realized this is because there is another dialog of
"Cannot set screen CRTCXXX" hidden under the two above windows, which needs to
by ok-ed first.

  Extra:
I also tried setting the display manually with 'xrandr', which lead to a
similar result as above - with the "cannot set screen" dialog, and falling back
to mirroring. This convinced me that the problem is probably with the nvidia
driver and not the higher plumbing.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1687246] Re: GNOME Shell should support fractional (non-integer) Hi-DPI scaling

2018-05-18 Thread amias
I am having this problem on ubuntu 18.04 on my dell precision m3800

it has built in 13inch 4k screen which is perfectly setup and scaled
but i also have external 40in 4k screen on display port , this gets scaled
to the same settings as the 13inch screen which is waste.

under unity i could scale each independently and it was excellent

additionally my external screen now only runs at a horrible 30hz when it used
to run at 60hz
the internal screen runs at 60hz . xrandr doesn't give me more options

I am using the nvidia driver in fulltime optimus mode with the built in

  ---

I'm using fully updated Ubuntu GNOME 17.04.

In Ubuntu Gnome, you only allow for integer scaling of things for high
DPI monitors. While in theory this sounds good, on a 27 inch 4k
monitor like mine, restricting it to integers is a problem. 1x is
annoyingly small, and 2x is WAY too big. You need a 1.5x, and
presumably to just allow most noninteger values to future proof the
distribution given 8k monitors and all sorts of new and weird things
coming out, like windows 10 has.

Photos of the two annoying sizes are available here (it won't let me
  attach two files):

  http://i.imgur.com/vWrvZxq.jpg
  http://i.imgur.com/11p19k7.jpg

I apologize for my photography skills in advance., you'll have to look
at the ruler for scale to see the problem. Please contact me if you
  need any more information etc.

  Workaround
  ==
You can enable experimental fractional scaling in Ubuntu 17.10 or 18.04 LTS
by running the following command in a terminal and then restarting your
computer. Note that this is an experimental feature and is not fully supported
by either Ubuntu or GNOME.

  gsettings set org.gnome.mutter experimental-features "['scale-monitor-
  framebuffer']"

After restarting your computer, you should find additional scale
options in Settings > Devices > Displays.

If you change your mind and want to get back to supported status, run:

  gsettings reset org.gnome.mutter experimental-features

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1574251] Re: Resuming from screen lock with a multimonitor setup causes all windows to migrate to the "primary screen"

2016-09-05 Thread amias
this issue also effects me with 16.04 on 4k version of the same laptop
and an external 4k screen running on displayport. It seems like the
screens are not woken up fast enough and timeout causing the windows to
be moved from them. I wonder if the timeouts could be adjusted upwards
for high res screens.

it has got worse since 15.10

  * an external display connected via HDMI, brand ASUS, same resolution;
  * the configuration via settings is that the screen on the laptop is on the
left and the ASUS screen on the right.

The bug did not appear with 15.10; only starting with 16.04 did this
start to happen. This is a laptop with a nVidia chipset, and it
doesn't matter whether I use nouveau or the proprietary nVidia driver.

When the screen locks after inactivity, or I lock it explicitly, and
then some time later (for some definition of "later") log back in, all
windows have migrated to the laptop screen. This is annoying since it
means I have to move all the windows over again.

I am not sure what details I should give. I only noticed that compared
to 15.10 which did not exhibit the bug, the ASUS screen takes longer
to "wake up" again... My hunch here is that the HDMI port was
  deactivated.

2014-07-17 Thread amias
just noticed a similar instance in 14.04 , when the display was full
screen but the monitor was smaller than the display size the menu that
allows the user to unfullscreen is not displayed. This might be a
scaling issue.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1268771] Re: NVIDIA Prime fails with Linux 3.13

2014-06-05 Thread amias
this is still a problem for me on my dell inspiron 7737 .

works fine with 3.11 but every other kernel just crashes at the plymouth
screen.

additionally now that the kernel headers package for the 3.11 kernel is
gone nvidia-prime users are now unable to use DKMS to build things like
vbox drivers and other things.

Please either fix this bug or reinstate the headers package as many
others will be effected

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 945987] Re: No Settings are available in Preferred format, only preset defaults are used

2013-11-18 Thread amias
raring ringtail is still attempting to rip cd's at 11khz which might ok
if you are listening to herb alpert (probably makes it more interesting)
but if you are listening to anything made in the last 20 years (i.e
electronic music with a huge dynamic range like say Reso , Noisia or
Frederick Robinson) its annoying.

Can we not just have a dialog pop up when you first try ripping that
asks you which settings you want to use ?

Cheers
Amias

Title:
No Settings are available in Preferred format, only preset defaults

Status in The GStreamer Multimedia Framework:

Status in “rhythmbox” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in “transmageddon” package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in “rhythmbox” source package in Precise:
  Fix Released
Status in “transmageddon” source package in Precise:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  = Transmageddon =

  [ Description ]

Transmageddon ships gstreamer preset files in a shared directory,
/usr/share/gstreamer-0.10/presets. As these presets have fixed names,
this is unhelpful. An upstream commit included in 0.21 moves these to
  a private location.

  [ Development fix ]

Fixed in Quantal in an identical way.

  [ Regression potential ]

If the fix doesn't work then it's possible that transmageddon won't be
able to find its presets and will not be able to encode anything.

  [ Testing ]

There should be no functional difference. Test with both the old and
new transmageddon that you can still transcode some videos using a
variety of settings, and that the settings you choose are the ones
  which are pplied.

  = Rhythmbox =

  [ Description ]

No encoding preset is shipped with Rhythmbox, meaning that subpar
  defaults for encoding are selected.

  [ Development Fix ]

Quantal's Rhythmbox has support for custom encoding settings. There,
we've shipped the same set of ubuntu-default presets, but have set
the default (in rhythmbox.gep) to use the user's selected custom
  settings.

  [ SRU fix notes ]

We Break and Replace old transmageddons, which have a file conflict
  with this version.

** Thus, the Rhythmbox SRU MUST NOT be accepted, both into -proposed
and -updates, without the transmageddon one. Otherwise we will
  introduce upgrade failures. **

  [ Regression potential ]

Perhaps the new settings will fail to apply and Rhythmbox will pick up
a worse set than it had before.

  [ Testing ]

Rip a CD with the new Rhythmbox with the default settings and
determine that the quality and other encoder parameters are what they
  should be.

  [ Original Description ]

This has been going on since 11.10 dev, maybe should be addressed

In Edit Preferences, on the Music tab the Settings button for Preferred
Format is greyed out unavailable. So there is no user available means to
adjust encoding for vorbis, mp3, mp4, ect.
Even using something like sound-juicer to change the very same 'Preferred.. '
is of no use, Rhythmbox doesn't use.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1169118] Re: Since last updates evolution is no longer able to receive or to send emails

2013-05-12 Thread amias
i have the same issue i think.

since upgrading to raring my gmail account credentials have been broken.

i now get GDBus.Error:org.gnome.OnlineAccounts.Error.NotAuthorized: Did
not find password with username `m...@amias.net' in credentials when
checking mail.

i can't remove or edit the account from evolution because its some kind
of dbus thing.

i tried removing and restoring the account from online accounts in
System settings but no change.

i tried to edit the passwords in seahorse but couldn't make any sense of it and
was somewhat shocked that it shows the
passwords without needing any password to unlock. I really don't want this
behaviour its dangerous.

i really don't want to recreate the mail account , it has gigs of mail.

im not happy with this way of doing things its not what i use linux for.
