[Desktop-packages] [Bug 996906] Re: periodic audio skips with Intel HDA
After upgrading to 14.04 pulseaudio is basically stable for me (same hardware). Although sometimes, after a reboot it isn't: pulseaudio starts stuttering, and I need to move the mouse to get playing to continue. But after power-down and restart the issue is fixed, and the stuttering is over. There was no need to change any of the settings. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to pulseaudio in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/996906 Title: periodic audio skips with Intel HDA Status in PulseAudio sound server: Confirmed Status in “pulseaudio” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: When running PulseAudio, if I'm playing music via any source (Exaile, Totem, Flash in Firefox or Chromium, VLC, etc.) every few minutes the audio will skip once or twice. top doesn't show any process eating CPU any more when it happens. dmesg doesn't show anything. Nothing else seems to be affected. It doesn't seem to happen regularly. I just installed Ubuntu 12.04 from scratch (with pulseaudio 1:1.1-0ubuntu15), but the same thing happened in 10.04 on the same hardware. I've detected that if I assign the sound buttons different keys, that this works. So although I can assign play to the Audio play key, this is not recognised. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1301597] Re: Sound underruns (sounds get repeated) at times
Good question, I had internet access issues at that time too. Currently everything is playing perfectly (for an hour), no skips, but I upgraded all, and rebooted. Only issue now is the volume up/down buttons don't react. Given that it is no longer very repeatable at the moment (before it always happened), and I now perhaps seem to run with: extra-arguments = --log-target=syslog --high-priority yes --nice-level -11 --realtime-scheduling yes --realtime-priority 5 priority can be lowered. I just did a test with spotify playing + a youtube video in firefox, and heard only a few very minor stutters I think. I'll post a comment if the issue comes back. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to pulseaudio in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1301597 Title: Sound underruns (sounds get repeated) at times Status in “pulseaudio” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: I answered no to the second test, not because I didn't hear anything, but because I heard audio skips. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 996906] Re: periodic audio skips with Intel HDA
Here's my current incantation which seems to work for me: 1. In /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf have a line: options snd-hda-intel enable_msi=0 2. In /etc/pulse/default.pa I have: .ifexists module-udev-detect.so load-module module-udev-detect tsched=0 .else ### Use the static hardware detection module (for systems that lack udev/hal support) load-module module-detect tsched=0 .endif 3. Not sure if relevant, but this a change in /etc/pulse/daemon.conf: default-fragments = 256 default-fragment-size-msec = 4 4. Important, I fire up alsamixer and set Auto-Mute to Disabled. If one of these steps is missing the problem is bad. With these, the stuttering is rare. And no, I won't rant about how playing audio on BeOS was so unproblematic. And I could even play 16 simultaneous movies as well. Preconditions: Playing video+audio from Hauppauge PVR250 TV capture card, which intermittently stutters in audio/video delivery (half-second pause) Symptoms: After a while, the occasional stutter from audio delivery turns into a 2-second repeat - like a scratched audio cd, and pulseaudio starts logging lots and lots of: (3628.790| 0.000) D: [pulseaudio] module-udev-detect.c: /dev/snd/controlC0 is accessible: yes (3628.811| 0.021) D: [pulseaudio] module-udev-detect.c: /dev/snd/controlC2 is accessible: yes (about 10-100 rows each second) which does not stop. I.e - every few minutes, the audio stops and repeats for a couple of seconds, and then resumes normal operation, but seems to still be stuck in some loop causing above logging. Might be alsa-related, because: - Restart of pulseaudio does not remedy the problem - Stopping pulseaudio and continuing with alsa-only, still produces the 2-second pauses, but with silence instead of repeating audio. This behavior was not present before the update. Print to file lets one choose a directory, however, this is ignored. This used to work correctly as recently as October. I think this might have been broken by chromium-browser 22.0.1229.94~r1 61065-0ubuntu1 which came as an update on 17 October. That matches the timestamps of the .pdf files in my home directory. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1071288] Re: No multiple monitors
I've found a probable cause. xrandr won't enable LVDS1 unless VGA1 is off. So I have to plug in VGA1, and then run: xrandr --output VGA1 --off xrandr --output LVDS1 --mode 1366x768 xrandr --output VGA1 --auto xrandr --output VGA1 --primary I have to turn VGA1 off, then I can turn LVDS1 on, and then VGA1 on. The xrandr error message is cannot find crtc for output LVDS1 A bit of googling shows that this happens to more people, with different video cards, on all sorts of versions, with all sorts of Linux distributions. Possibly related, possibly off-topic: I make VGA1 the primary display, because if I don't I can't resize beyond a certain size even though VGA1 is 1920x1080. This may be because VGA1's resolution is higher, and windows are stuck on LVDS1's size. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1071288 Title: No multiple monitors Status in “gnome-control-center” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Gnome-shell usually doesn't run on multiple monitors, even though it's configured in SystemSettings - Displays usually because once in a blue moon it does. So the hardware supports it. xrandr lists: LVDS1 connected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 1366x768 59.9 + VGA1 connected 1920x1080+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 477mm x 268mm 1920x1080 60.0*+ (other resolutions cut from the output) gdm starts on both monitors. As soon as I log in, LVDS1 goes off. I can enable the second monitor in SystemSettings-Displays, and even click on keep configuration but it doesn't activate. It's disabled in software somewhere. I say that because the message tray at the bottom is in a different location when both monitors are active. So there is a software detect-monitor-size that moves the message tray, and it's almost always where it would be for single monitors. Worked fine in Gnome-Shell 3.0.0. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 879384] Re: Toggle wireless off makes it impossible to toggle back on
I've found a bunch of other bugs that say that the wireless is blocked on reboot. That's not the problem here. Wireless works on reboot.
