[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1770429] Re: Ubuntu 18.04 No audio from speakers. Headphones working. Surface Pro 3
more clues related to comment #9 if I run alsamixer I can toggle AUTO-MUTE from ENABLED to DISABLED and the SOUND SETTINGS Choose a device for sound output switches between headphones output and Analog Stereo Output. I did this 4-5 rapidly and now it seems that the SOUND SETTINGS Choose a device for sound output now appears to switch back/forth between headphones and Analog Stereo Out but when I plug in Headphones I hear audio from both speakers & headphones. But as a temp workaround this is ok for me since if I use headphones I can turn off my speakers but if not using headphones (re not plugged in) my speakers work. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to alsa-driver in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1770429 Title: Ubuntu 18.04 No audio from speakers. Re: [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1707691] Re: libxfont1-dev is missing fontutil.h

Not sure what your use case is but... step 1 *$ sudo touch /usr/include/X11/fonts/fontutil.h* This file is owned by *root:root*, with mode *0o644*. Then edit that file and put the following contents into it: #ifndef _FONTUTIL_H_#define _FONTUTIL_H_ #include extern int FontCouldBeTerminal(FontInfoPtr);extern int CheckFSFormat(fsBitmapFormat, fsBitmapFormatMask, int *, int *, int *, int *, int *);extern void FontComputeInfoAccelerators(FontInfoPtr); extern void GetGlyphs ( FontPtr font, unsigned long count, unsigned char *chars, FontEncoding fontEncoding, unsigned long *glyphcount, CharInfoPtr *glyphs );extern void QueryGlyphExtents ( FontPtr pFont, CharInfoPtr *charinfo, unsigned long count, ExtentInfoRec *info );extern Bool QueryTextExtents ( FontPtr pFont, unsigned long count, unsigned char *chars, ExtentInfoRec *info );extern Bool ParseGlyphCachingMode ( char *str );extern void InitGlyphCaching ( void );extern void SetGlyphCachingMode ( int newmode );extern int add_range ( fsRange *newrange, int *nranges, fsRange **range, Bool charset_subset ); #endif /* _FONTUTIL_H_ */ = = = = = = = = = = = Save the file and then do your compile/make etc and it should succeed. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1533656] [NEW] user environment diff btwn firefox launched from cli & firefox launched from the menu
Public bug reported: Recently I was some implementing some LXC desktop environments and came across a difference regarding Firefox when started from the CLI or started from a Menu. In my use-case I use the Pulseaudio module module-native-protocol-tcp in the Host to allow the LXC desktops to redirect their sound/audio to the Host's speakers. in particular... this is done by adding the following to /etc/pulse/system.pa & restarting Puluseaudio or rebooting once. load-module module-native-protocol-tcp auth-ip- acl=127.0.0.1;10.0.3.0/24 Then in each LXC container user's .bashrc I add: export PULSE_SERVER=10.0.3.1 Which redirects sound in the LXC container to 10.0.3.1 which is the Host & the Host's Pulseaudio server. aplay /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav tests that the sound is directed to the Host Pulseaudio server ok and other apps like VLC work fine also in the container. However, I found that only with Firefox (and Chrome) launched from the Ubuntu menu there was no sound/audio. If I launched either Firefox or Chrome from the CLI where the User environment had the PULSE_SERVER=10.0.3.1 then sound worked fine (youtube for instance). After digging around I found that launching from the Ubuntu menu doesn't execute the Firefox binary directly but via a shell script in /var/lib/firefox/firefox.sh. If I add: "export PULSE_SERVER=10.0.3.1" to the top of firefox.sh then Sound DOES work when launching Firefox in an LXC container by clicking on its icon in the menu. I decided to file a bug on this because I'd expect that the User "environment" for Firefox should be the same whether launched from CLI or from the menu. ** Affects: firefox (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to firefox in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1533656 Title: user environment diff btwn firefox launched from cli & firefox launched from the menu Status in firefox package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Recently I was some implementing some LXC desktop environments and came across a difference regarding Firefox when started from the CLI or started from a Menu. This breaks LXC and quite possibly libvirt as those provide bridges which are then completely unconfigured by Network Manager. Test case: 1) Update (or not) network-manager 2) Restart it 3) Install lxc 4) Check that lxcbr0 exists and has an IP configured Regression potential: The change to Network Manager is related to udev handling of new devices, even though normal operation on a regular desktop machine was tested, it's not impossible that this may regress handling of some devices. The fix was cherry-picked directly from upstream, so did go through code review and has been publicly available for a while. This fixes a significant regression compared to Ubuntu 15.04 and looks less risky than the alternative workaround which was uploaded earlier. === Original report === After initial upgrade from Ubuntu 15.04 to Ubuntu 15.10 LXC worked for a couple days then failed. I found that the lxcbr0 interface no longer existed. I reported this on the lxc-user alias and about the same time several others had this happen to them also. Serge Hallyn requested I open a launchpad bug and post some info but before I could gather that info the system returned to normal (re lxcbr0 was back) the next day after the server was booted up again. note: at least one other person had this happen to them also (lxcbr0 came back by itself). Today, I booted this server again and ... again lxcbr0 was missing where it had been working last night. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1003743] Re: webcam fails w/ubuntu 12.04 works w/Debian 6 - both x64 OS
NOTE - when I filed these 2 bugs for some reason Launchpad marked them as Firefox related. THEY ARE NOT... cheese, uvcview etc all have problems although lately I have been able to uvcview to capture/display But regardless, from my searches something with webcam's broke around 11.10 release and continues. Skype for instance has a work-around being published about using a PRE- LOAD for the ia386 code. Again, in my ignorance .. I suspect combo of multi-arch and Unity. On latest x64 bit Debian it all works... so to a DEV that should also be a clue as to what changes from there to Ubuntu. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to firefox in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1003743 Title: webcam fails w/ubuntu 12.04 works w/Debian 6 - both x64 OS Status in “firefox” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: I've been trying to get my webcam working in 12.04 x64 system. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1003746] Re: Adobe Flash Player - mouse click fails on User Setting menu x64 Ubuntu 12.04 - it works on x64 Debian 6
I have a guess that both are related and possibly a cause of the move to multi-arch and to Unity. Multi-arch because it seems they are both affecting x64 users from what I can see. I also have screenshots that I can send showing FLASH PLAYER -and- Webcam work in Debian 6 x64 -but- both fail in Ubuntu 12.04 x64 with Unity. I also have a screenshot I can send that shows FLASH PLAYER -is- mouse clickable in in Ubuntu 12.04 x64 (even though the webcam still doesn't work. I wanted to file these 2 bugs because Debian and Ubuntu or so closely related that perhaps some DEV can figure out why both these 2 issues fail in Ubuntu 12.04 x64 release yet BOTH work in Debian 6 x64 release? There are ALOT of people having these 2 problems right now. thanks ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.04 Package: firefox 12.0+build1-0ubuntu0.12.04.1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.2.0-24.39-generic 3.2.16 Uname: Linux 3.2.0-24-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: fglrx AddonCompatCheckDisabled: False AlsaVersion: Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.24. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 865672] Re: Adobe Flash Player Settings dialogue does not respond to mouse clicks
One thing I learned experimenting.. If I am on a Ubuntu x64 bit pc and using my browser to connect to a 32 bit web server and it offers me the flash player the Flash Player User Settings menu DOES allow me to click on it. If however I use my browser to connect to a x64 bit web server and it offers me the Flash Player, the Flash Player User Settings menu does NOT let me click on any menu options. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to firefox in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/865672 Title: Adobe Flash Player Settings dialogue does not respond to mouse clicks Status in Chromium Browser: New Status in The Mozilla Firefox Browser: New Status in Midori: Webkit Web browser: Confirmed Status in Unity Distro Priority: Fix Released Status in “adobe-flashplugin” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Status in “chromium-browser” package in Ubuntu: Invalid Status in “firefox” package in Ubuntu: Invalid Status in “midori” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: WORKAROUNDS: 1. http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager06.html#117645 2. Click on the flash window. Now use the keyboard to tab through the settings dialog. Space to select. ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: Adobe flash player is configured on my system to ask before a website sets a flash cookie, so if a video (eg on youtube) is played, a dialogue box will pop up asking me whether or not to allow the website to store a cookie on my machine. However, nothing happens when I click on either 'allow' or 'deny', so the box stays put and I can't view or control the video playing beneath it. On this machine I upgraded from 11.04 to 11.10; in 11.04 there was a program for adjusting the flash player settings in the System Settings control panel, but that program is no longer there and not accessible via the dash, so there is no obvious way to just configure flash to allow all cookies and avoid the dialogue box. Workaround: using Unity 2D instead Notice : the problem has been already corrected two years before : https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/flashplugin-nonfree/+bug/410407?comments=all I'll add that it's perhaps because of Compiz : It works with Unity 2d, KDE, Gnome-Shell, Gnome-Session-With-No-Effect BUT it affects Ubuntu 3D, Gnome-Session Fallback and Caito-Dock session ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 11.10 Package: firefox 7.0.1+build1+nobinonly-0ubuntu1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.0.0-12.19-generic 3.0.4 Uname: Linux 3.0.0-12-generic i686 AddonCompatCheckDisabled: False AlsaVersion: Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.24.
