Title:
backspace key no longer works in nautilus

Status in Nautilus:
  Invalid
Status in “nautilus” package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
I know that that it's not Ubuntu's fault that the gnome-devs have
removed so much of the useful functionality from nautilus 3.6, but one
regression that I find particularly annoying is that the backspace key
no longer works as a 'back' button. Instead, you have to press ALT-
left arrow, which is much more complex, as well as non-intuitive (non-
intuitive in the sense that many users tend to use backspace to go
  back in browsers).

  ProblemType: Bug
  DistroRelease: Ubuntu 13.04
  Package: nautilus 1:3.6.3-0ubuntu5
  ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.8.0-2.6-generic 3.8.0-rc4

This has worked for eternity, now some guy decided it to be Alt + Backspace,...
what the hell?
Why make it more complex?

Bug description:
The gedit window fails to appear when I start gedit on my first try.
It does appear on my second try. This is true when starting from the
launcher, opening a document from a folder, or opening a file using
the terminal. I can see gedit did started the first time; the process
  is running.

If I start gedit using --standalone it does work the first time. This
implies that default behaviour is to start gedit in the background.
The file is ignored when gedit starts in the background, so a second
call is needed to load the document.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 905902] [NEW] Changing wallpaper takes too much ressource

2011-12-18 Thread entonjackson
Public bug reported:

When i'm going to play games e.g. in Browser or native then i need to turn off
wallch before. Otherwise everytime Wallch is changing Wallpapers in the
background the games will slow down.
I use 1920x1200 Wallpapers only, maybe this could increase the problem, but i
think the fading effect, when wallpapers change (that is coming from nautilus)
should be optimised, so such performance problems won't occur anymore.

I'm using Ubuntu Oneiric 64bit with Unity3D.
It happens, playing Flash Games in Chromium, Chrome and Firefox.
It happens, playing Doom3.

Computer:
Processor: 2x Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T9600 @ 2.80GHz

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 144276] Re: file chooser: cannot copy, cut, paste, dragdrop, rename, delete

2011-11-20 Thread entonjackson
I think this is a really important functionality.
No one can deny that she/he wanted to download a file, or open a file and
wanted to manage files or folders within that dialog at the same time.
Workflow then slowed down, because there needed to be opened nautilus first, to
do that...

Title:
file chooser: cannot copy, cut, paste, dragdrop, rename, delete

Status in GTK+ GUI Toolkit:
  Confirmed
Status in “gtk+2.0” package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
  gtk2.0 2.12.0-1ubuntu1

some really important features are missing in the gtk filechooser.
  These are the use case:

Mr. X is saving/opening a file and this might happen:
  1) he needs to rename an existing file because he wants to save the new file
with the same name, but does not want to loose the old file (SAVE ONLY)
  2) he sees a file, in the current view, that is no more needed, and he wants
to delete it
  3) he sees a spelling mistake in a filename/dirname
  4) he wants to create a directory to save the new file, but he gives the
wrong name to it, and wants to rename it (SAVE ONLY)
  5) he sees a file that is not in the correct directory
  6) he creates a new directory to rearrange the current dir, because he has
lots of files that can be grouped

now if this happesn, Mr X has to open nautilus to do all these things.
This is in my opinion not acceptable.

I was just experiencing the same bug here.
to me this bug is critical and should be fixed asap.

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: nautilus

If you create a folder with a really long name it will somehow mess
with the pathbar buttons, so nothing will be shown. Try to create a
folder and call it a folder with a really really long name that does
not actually fit the address bar as it should. Open it and see what
happens: the pathbar buttons, as well as the view and zoom buttons,
  disappear from the nautilus window.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 12893] Re: Shouldn't put .Trash-$USER on removable devices

2011-11-01 Thread entonjackson
True.
I would at least suggest the way, that everyone can choose to have a trash or
not have a trash on removable devices.

If it's so hard to implement this, then at least ASK the user when ejecting, if
one wants to empty the trash.
Or... if the user wants to copy files on the removable device and there is not
enough space, because of the files in the trash, then ASK, if trash should be
opened.

I'm sick and tired of finding that my digital camera card is full after

This is because instead of deleting files from removal devices, Nautilus
creates
a .Trash-$USER directory and moves the files into there.

Can we please make the default be to _not_ do this? It makes (some) sense for
the main drive, but removable ones tend to be temporary storage. A better
alternative would be to remove the files from the removable device and into
the
  user's home directory .Trash

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 12893] Re: Shouldn't put .Trash-$USER on removable devices

2011-10-31 Thread entonjackson
Please!
I'm using Ubuntu for years now! This is on of the TOP5 Bugs to me overall on
Ubuntu.
It's not so bad to me, but telling people that are new to Ubuntu, that they
have to delete their files on their drives by pressing Shift+Del makes no fun.

Is it so hard to implement this? What is the reason, this is only on
Whishlist?

this should be a feature, for the following reasons:

1, it's intuitive, more so than ctrl+w at least
2, esc closes chat windows in most chat clients users would be familiar with,
ie MSN, Pidgin etc
3, if you just want to get rid of the window, you want it to be as quick
easy as possible.. if there's some issue with using esc, how about ctrl+d?
