apport information ** Attachment added: LightdmLog.txt https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1173478/+attachment/3942850/+files/LightdmLog.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1173478 Title: Regression: power on/off of external monitor not detected Status in “xserver-xorg-video-intel” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: I switch the power of a connected monitor on and off, the state does not get detected. When I switch the external monitor off, the system continues to think there are two monitors connected. Sometimes it helps to push the button detect monitors in the display setiings, or to hit the hardware button that toggles trough the display states (internal-only, mirror screens, external-only, extended screen) , on my machine it's the Fn-F5 key. But sometimes this does not help at all. Even worse, when I put the laptop in the docking-station with the external-monitor powered off, and the cold-boot the laptop, X thinks that the external monitor were powered on. As I have a laptop and two docking- stations, one at home the other at work, with two different external monitors connected I could see a really strange effect. Even with the monitor powered off I can see the correct monitor information in the display settings dialog, so some how the information is read from the powerless monitor. If connected and turned on, the displays otherwise work normally, no screen corruption of any kind. Just the state of the monitors is not correctly detected. On Quantal using precisely the same hardware it worked as expected. On external monitor on/off or dock/undock the display settings adjusted themselves to the new situation without any manual interaction. I verified this behavior also with a live USB Stick of raring-beta2. It just worked with all Ubuntu Versions from Karmic up to Quantal, and now using Raring it does no longer work. I verified this behavior also with a live USB Stick of raring-beta2. It just worked with all Ubuntu Versions from Karmic up to Quantal, and now using Raring it does no longer work. One of the recent updates has changed the situation on my machine to the better :-) Dock and Undock events are working again Also Plug and Unplug events are working again Only remaining regression is that Power On/Off events of the external monitor are not recognised. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1173478 Title: Regression: power on/off and connect/disconnect of external monitor not detected Status in “xserver-xorg-video-intel” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: When I connect or disconnect an external monitor, or when I switch the power of a connected monitor on and off, the state does not get detected. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1075923] Re: nautilus hangs copying large directories from a samba share
An other tought: If the GNOME team refuses to fix this bug, why does Ubuntu still use gvfs for samba shares? Wouldn't it be easier to implement cifs in a way similar to pyNeighbourhood ? I mean using cifs directly and not using the buggy gvfs-fuse GNOME software ? It does not look very professional to newbie-users when a simple samba share just does not work in Ubuntu. I myself can easily work arround the problem, but my wife and my sister in law they are lost. It's getting really hard to confince people that Ubuntu is the better OS when there are showstoppers like this bug. I'm starting to get the impression that Ubuntu is on the way to copy Microsoft's philosophy regarding bugs: You have to keep the prooven to be stable bugs in the system. People might get scared off when the bugs they rely on suddenly get fixed. ;-) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gvfs in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1075923 Title: nautilus hangs copying large directories from a samba share Status in GVFS: New Status in “gvfs” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: I have a large directory, almost 50Gb and 45.000 files shared by samba on ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS server. I used to copy the whole directory regularly on my desktop, and execute a backup with deja dup on that. I did also often backup directly from the samba share. After upgrading my client to 12.10, copying the directory hangs randomly, sometimes after having copied just 1 Gb, others having almost completed the whole transfer. It just hangs, without any crash. I noted the also Deja -dup shows the same behaviour, now it's impossible to complete a backup from the share, it just hangs. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1173478] [NEW] Regression: power on/off and connect/disconnect of external monitor not detected
Public bug reported: When I connect or disconnect an external monitor, or when I switch the power of a connected monitor on and off, the state does not get detected. When I switch the external monitor off, or remove the laptop from the docking-station, the system continues to think there are two monitors connected. As I have a laptop and two docking-stations, one at home the other at work, with two different external monitors connected I could see a really strange effect. Even with the monitor powered off I can see the correct monitor information in the display settings dialog, so some how the information is read from the powerless monitor. If connected and turned on, the displays otherwise work normally, no screen corruption of any kind. Just the state of the monitors is not correctly detected. On Quantal using precisely the same harware it worked as expected. On external monitor on/off or dock/undock the display settings adjusted themselves to the new situation without any manual interaction. I verfied this behaviour also with a live USB Stick of raring-beta2. I'm not 100% sure whether this bug is to be located in the linux-kernel or the X11 system. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1075923] Re: nautilus hangs copying large directories from a samba share
Also here, just upgraded to raring - the bug is still there :-( -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gvfs in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1075923 Title: nautilus hangs copying large directories from a samba share Status in GVFS: New Status in “gvfs” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: I have a large directory, almost 50Gb and 45.000 files shared by samba on ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS server. It seems to me that a bug in the samba client might be the cause of these issues, since neither nautilus nor Deja-dup have problems with local large directories. my system: Ubuntu 12.10 AMD64 nautilus: 1:3.5.90.really.3.4.2-0ubuntu4 deja-dup: deja-dup 24.0-0ubuntu1 smbclient 2:3.6.6-3ubuntu5 samba-common: 2:3.6.6-3ubuntu5 samba-common-bin: 2:3.6.6-3ubuntu5 ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.10 Package: nautilus 1:3.5.90.really.3.4.2-0ubuntu4 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.5.0-18.29-generic 3.5.7 Uname: Linux 3.5.0-18-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.6.1-0ubuntu6 Architecture: amd64 Date: Wed Nov 7 12:05:58 2012 GsettingsChanges: b'org.gnome.nautilus.window-state' b'geometry' b'825x550+853+471' InstallationDate: Installed on 2012-10-22 (16 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 12.10 Quantal Quetzal - Release amd64 (20121017.5) MarkForUpload: True SourcePackage: nautilus UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gvfs/+bug/1075923/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 920327] Re: Ubuntu 11.10 Power Settings Don't Work When Lid is Closed
In a dual montior setup do nothing blanks **BOTH** screens Even worse opening the lid the monitors remained black, no matter what I tried I could not get them back. I had to reboot using magic sysreq REISUB. This behaviour is present in Oneiric and Precise on my ACER Laptop with Intel Graphics Card -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-power-manager in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/920327 Title: Ubuntu 11.10 Power Settings Don't Work When Lid is Closed Status in “gnome-power-manager” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: ASUS Laptop, Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot Power Management Preferences - When laptop lid is closed -- The do nothing option does not work. My laptop is connected to an external HDMI monitor with the laptop display disabled. When I close the lid I want the system to do nothing (keep laptop display disabled and keep HDMI on). When I close the laptop lid it puts the system into Suspend Mode. I don't have Suspend Mode selected. I have Do Nothing selected. Please fix this. In addition the Blank screen option is missing. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 854802] Re: User account manager does not start (closes immediately)
Hi I experience the same problem on one of my 64bit oneirc systems. I just upgraded two machines from natty to oneirc, and one of them is affected by the bug, the other not. Very strange. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 854802] Re: User account manager does not start (closes immediately)
The problem is somehow triggerd by the installed languages. I had English, German, French, Italian, Portuguise and Esperanto installed on the machine that was affected by the bug. Now I just removed all languages but English and German, and now the user-accounts starts up as it should. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/854802 Title: User account manager does not start (closes immediately) Status in “gnome-control-center” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Ubuntu 11.10 beta1 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center/+bug/854802/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
