[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1077342] [NEW] Feature of Powering off an external drive is no more!

2012-11-10 Thread hanynowsky
Public bug reported:

in 12.04 the utility (palimpsest / gnome-disk-utility / gnome-disks )
has a useful feature which is :

- Power Off Drive

So basically, if you have a NTFS external drive that you plug through USB, and
want to unplug it, you open the utilitu and
- unmount
- power off

then unplug.

Today, after upgrading to 12.10 (the new palimpsest), the utility got rid of
this feature. All we can do now is unmount the external drive.
Not powering off an external drive before unplugging it may be dangerous.

ProblemType: Bug
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.10
Package: gnome-disk-utility 3.6.1-0ubuntu1
ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.5.0-18.29-generic 3.5.7

Architecture: amd64
Date: Sat Nov 10 12:44:24 2012
InstallationDate: Installed on 2012-09-25 (45 days ago)
InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 12.10 Quantal Quetzal - Alpha amd64 (20120905.2)
MarkForUpload: True
SourcePackage: gnome-disk-utility
UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install)

Re: [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1027139] Re: colord-sane assert failure: *** buffer overflow detected ***: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/colord/colord-sane terminated

2012-10-03 Thread hanynowsky
As stated above, This bug happens in my machines only when I use an
imported Color profile (in order to use customized calibration).
Mine is of type ICM. It usually happens when there is user session restart.
is this the case for you too?

By chance, does this have to do with the Color Profile calibration in

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1058547] [NEW] Network manager does not fully recognize Broadband internet through sakis3G

2012-09-29 Thread hanynowsky
Public bug reported:

My Broadband usb Modem Huawei E173s-1 which worked under Precise 12.04, does
not want to connect to internet in 12.10 (bug already reported).
Though, I succeeded in connecting to the internet using the binary: sakis3g:
--
sudo sakis3g --interactive
-
And follow GUI instructions.

Untill now all applications recognize this internet connection except EMPATHY
Software Center Gwibber. (Probably others)
When I try to use Software Center, it tells there is no Internet connection and
I am not able to install software from it.
Same thing for Empathy, it does not connect.

Indicators like indicator-weather or indictaor-dropbox connects just
fine.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1058547] Re: Network manager does not fully recognize Broadband internet through sakis3G

2012-09-29 Thread hanynowsky

Network manager does not fully recognize Broadband internet through

Status in “network-manager” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
My Broadband usb Modem Huawei E173s-1 which worked under Precise 12.04,
does not want to connect to internet in 12.10 (bug already reported).
Though, I succeeded in connecting to the internet using the binary: sakis3g:
  --
  sudo sakis3g --interactive

  And follow GUI instructions.

Untill now all applications recognize this internet connection except EMPATHY
 Software Center Gwibber. (Probably others)
When I try to use Software Center, it tells there is no Internet connection
and I am not able to install software from it.
Same thing for Empathy, it does not connect.

Indicators like indicator-weather or indictaor-dropbox connects just
  fine.

I have the same problem in Ubuntu 12.04 Precise AMD64 under Unity.
The modem connects only if I disconnect it and plug it off then on.
Let's add that the modem does not switch to modem mode in 12.10 Quantal at all.

What do you mean by uid root? sudo -s ?

if I type : sudo modprobe -r usbserial

Then I get an error:
Fatal: module usbserial is in use.

2012-09-27 Thread hanynowsky
Bug reported against Ubuntu 12.10 QUantal:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/modemmanager/+bug/1057186
--
In a forum, a user (
http://www.draisberghof.de/usb_modeswitch/bb/viewtopic.php?t=960 ) has the same
issue and could issue a successful mode switch with this command:

sudo /usr/sbin/usb_modeswitch -I -W -s 10 -c path-to/12d1:1446 -v
12d1 -p 1446

I did the same :
unzipping configPack in /usr/share/usb_modeswitch and type the command:

sudo /usr/sbin/usb_modeswitch -I -W -s 10 -c
/usr/share/usb_modeswitch/configPack/12d1:1c0b -v 12d1 -p 1c05

but I get a switch mode fail (seet attachment).

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 974332] Re: Libreoffice prompts systematically to recover the last saved document

2012-07-20 Thread hanynowsky
this bug is likely to be caused by the package lo-menubar.

If I uninstall lo-menubar (integration of LO with global menu), the
recovery bug disappears. Once I re-install it, the bug is back.

deleting or emptying the file:
~/.config/libreoffice/3/user/registrymodifications.xcu does not help.

Thank you for the feedback
IT appears that lo-menubar package was uninstalled for some reason. I
re-installed it : sudo apt-get install lo-menubar
and integration to Global menu is back. Yet, it triggers another bug which is
Bug #974332 .

Bug description:
  WORKAROUND 1:
Run CCSM and under Ubuntu Unity Plugin change the key binding for Key to
show the launcher to something else (e.g. Super+U). Then log out and in again.
As long as no compiz plugin is bound to the single Super key any more, compiz
will no longer block other apps from binding to Super+other_keys.

  WORKAROUND 2:
  1. Write a script or figure out the command to do the action you want.
  2. Run ccsm.
  3. Enable the Commands plugin
  4. In the Commands settings, fill in the command line you want and bind it to
key Super+P.
Now Unity will run your specified command on Super+P, but still handle the
Super key as usual.

  [Precise SRU Justification]

[Impact] Any shortcut with Super, Hyper, Meta virtual modifiers does
  not work

[Test Case] Attach an external monitor to the laptop, press Super+P,
it should do the video switch as this function is implemented in
gnome-settings-daemon. A patch in comment #12 is now accepted
upstream and a test package with that patch is available in comment
#14. From the test result, the patch at least fixes Unity-2D.

[Regression Potential] The patch is accepted upstream and is also
cherry-picked in the gnome-3-4 branch of g-s-d git tree. g-s-d version
in Precise is 3.4.2. So the risk of regression should be rather low.

[Other] I prepare a debdiff in comment #31 for convenience. I hope the
patch can be in both Quantal and Precise.

  ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION:
Using : 12.04 Beta 1, updated. and Unity.

  In 11.10 clicking:

  - the function key (Fn) + (F1) allowed to switch between the laptop
  screen and the external monitor.

After upgrading to 12.04 this no more works and instead I get an
  unexpected behavior: see the video.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1009652] [NEW] Firefox 12 13 do not support Java applet under Ubuntu 12.04

2012-06-06 Thread hanynowsky
Public bug reported:

Reproduce:

- Open Firefox 12 or 13
- Go to : http://java.com/en/download/testjava.jsp
- Normally a java applet should appear informing the user that Java is working.

Instead, the web browser hangs a while and freezes. Obliged then to
force quit.

I already enabled Java for firefox by removing ICEDTEA plugin and adding a
symbolic link to the correct plugin :
/usr/lib/jvm/jdk1.7.0/jre/lib/amd64/libnpjp2.so
in ~/.mozilla/plugins
And typing about:plugins reveals that indeed Java is installed in Firefox.
I tried with all firefox extensions disabled but in vain.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 950160] Re: Keyboard function key to switch between monitors no more works

2012-05-24 Thread hanynowsky
Retried again.

The debugging command :  kill -9 `pgrep gnome-settings`;
gnome-settings-daemon --debug
made the patch work for Unity 3D temporarily. I had a similar output as in
comment #22 (xrandr Identified monitors...etc) and the monitor switch also
worked.
After logout/login, the patch is no more effective for Unity 3D. I also noticed
that there was a second instance of compiz running with a huge memory
consumption (if the debugging command is triggered).

Case 2 : The patch work fine in Unity 2D. (Fn+F1) and (Super + P) do
work fine.

same here.
After calibrating my desktop monitor ( Samsung SyncMaster XL 2370), nothing

Title:
nautilus popup menu highlighting using copy and paste incorrect

Status in “nautilus” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in “nautilus” source package in Precise:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
When an item is right clicked and cut or copy are selected, at the
time of paste (using right click) the menu doesn't reflect that there
is an item available to be pasted. While the paste is still possible,
the menu line is grayed out.

If another nautilus window is opened then the Paste menu item is
correctly enabled and not greyed out.

When nautilus is restarted and there is nothing availble to be pasted
the menu item is greyed out and not selectable.

This is with Precise 12.04 beta 2 using gnome-shell

I need to add that this palimpset bug is likely to be related with NTFS
partitions only.

I could not reproduce it acting on EXT4 or FAT partitions.

Launcher mouse revealing does not work anymore

Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
Launcher mouse revealing does not work anymore.

After today's updates, it's no more possible to reveal the launcher
using the mouse, when set to Auto-hide behavior.

Even going, to System Settings and then Appearance / Behavior and
setting launcher sensitivity to Maximum does not change anything.

As a workaround, I reveal it using the keyboard shortcut (ALT+F1) or
  clicking twice on SUPER key.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 29894] Re: can't take screenshot when menu on panel is opened

2012-03-03 Thread hanynowsky
Meanwhile, we're using Shutter (An application for advanced desktop
screenshots http://shutter-project.org/ ) to take screenshots.

Ubuntu 11.10 and 12.04 BEta 1 are also affected. Only occurs in Unity.

Bug description:
I can always press the Print screen key to take a screenshot of my
desktop. When i click on say, the System menu in the gnome-panel, it
  just doesn't work anymore.

Note: this is in fact only a symptom of bug 10905 that states that no
hotkeys/shortcuts whatsoever can be triggered when a menu is open.
there seems to be a dispute if that is a bug or an intended design
decision. thus bug 10905 and its duplicates always get closed. people
seem to agree that not being able to take screenshots is not intended
bahavior and considered a bug. thus this report is allowed to stay
  open :)

a known workaround for taking screenshots of menus is to directly launch the
screengrabber with a delay like so:
  gnome-screenshot --delay=5
