Title:
Screen is not being turned off after idle time

Status in “gnome-screensaver” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
In brightness lock settings, I set the `Turn off off when inactive
for` settings to 1 minute, but the screen remains on (an unlocked) for
ever. The bug is introduced in Ubuntu 14.04 and was not present in
  13.04/13.10.

I tried `xscreensaver` and it works fine.

Purging/reinstalling `gnome-screensaver` did not fixed the issue.
Before uninstall `gnome-screensaver` was being executed at startup, but after
reinstall it does not starts automatically anymore. When I try to start it
manullay, It prints `screensaver already running in this session` and stops. I
can start it with `gksudo` but has no effect and screen remains on.

1c. Select Allow different sources for each window radio button.
1d. Select New windows use the default source radio button.

Status in “gnome-screensaver” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
I have two monitors, the laptop screen and an external one connected
  via display port.

When I do 'ctrl-alt-L' in gnome-shell to lock the screen, the laptop
screen displays the screen background and the second monitor displays
whatever was on it before locking the screen.

When I press a key, no password prompt appears - the laptop continues
to display the background. However, entering the password at this
  point unlocks the computer.

Today, I didn't lock the screen and put the computer into sleep mode
when I went to bed. So some 10 minutes after the last action, the
screen would lock as usual, presenting the blueish unlock prompt
  (simple locker).

This time, however, when I returned, a gray lock screen with Debian
logo was presented. I was able to unlock it, and after a fraction of a
second, the screen was locked again. This can be repeated for
arbitrary amounts of logins, it will never unlock completely.
Ctrl+Alt+L for manual locking was also not possible. One can see the
desktop running behind normally for this short amount of time, but of
course take no actions. From a different user and graphical session, I
tried disabling the lock at all, but this doesn't seem to work for
gnome-screensaver at all. Or maybe not for the current session, but
that's not helpful for this acute problem as well.

I was able to find and kill a suspicious gnome-screensaver from a
shell session, after that the main session is completely unlocked.
Manually locking now brings the old simple locker back up. Everything
  seems fine.

  Questions:
  1) Where the heck did gnome-screensaver on a KDE system come from? I never
configured that. And after killing it once, it's gone.
  2) Even if it got installed and configured by one of the latest updates (I
don't see that from the packages shown above), gnome-screensaver has a re-lock
loop on KDE. Major bug?

Gnome-screensaver does not unlock computer on Saucy

Status in “gnome-screensaver” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
I have Ubuntu 13.10 with all updates (normal and -proposed).
I have two keyboard layouts - Russian and English.
Before screen locking (with Ctrl+Alt+L) I have English layout.

After activating gnome-screensaver I can't unlock my laptop. Gnome-
screensaver is running, showed me my username and text field for
password (there is En in right of it - so English layout is
selected), I enter my password (without errors with Caps Lock off),
but gnome-screensaver does not unlock screen and asks me for enter
  password again.

It seems that gnome-screensaver can't unlock my system.

Status in “gnome-screensaver” package in Ubuntu:

Status in “gnome-screensaver” source package in Saucy:

Bug description:

  * Impact: layouts are missing from the unlock screen which might makes
  difficult to unlock

  * Test case:

Through gnome-control-center, add a few different XKB input sources
(e.g., US, French, German, Russian), then lock the screen.

  Expected results:

The lock screen dialog keyboard switching indicator should cycle
through all of the XKB (non-IBus) input sources.

  Actual results:

It only allows cycling through at most two XKB layouts, the currently
active one, and the US layout.

  * Regression potential:

The changes affect the list from which gnome-screensaver allows
cycling, and may affect which layouts are available for unlocking the
  session.

  =

I'm not sure if this is caused by gnome-control-center, or ibus 1.5,
but in saucy, adding or modifying the keyboard layouts doesn't seem to
  properly update xkb any longer.

For example, I can have both French (Canada) and English (US)
configured, but xkl_config_rec_get_from_server() will only return 'ca'
and xkl_engine_get_num_groups() will return 1, instead of 2.

I believe this is also causing the keyboard layouts to not appear on

Screen not locking when hovering mouse over notification applets

Status in “gnome-screensaver” package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
Ubuntu 11.10 screen not locking if user hover mouse over notification
elements on screen (User picker, volume, etc).

  Steps to reproduce:

1: Set screen timeout to 1 minute
2: Wait a minute and allow screen to lock - move mouse to unlock: Password
input box displayed
3: Expand volume applet and hover mouse over volume controls. Wait a minute
and allow screen to lock - move mouse to unlock: Password input box not
displayed but screen unlocked

Real world scenario: User's machine is left open to use by others if
they leave it alone having performed an action using the notification
applets - pausing Banshee, for example - and haven't unfocused the
  applet.

Expected behaviour: Screen unlock dialogue appears regardless of in-
  focus elements.

Title:
Gnome-screensaver does not lock if turn screen off is disabled

Status in “gnome-screensaver” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
The Screensaver Lock settings dialog for the gnome screensaver is
misleading and is a security risk.

It allows you to specify whether or not the screen will be turned off
after a certain time, and it allows you to specify whether or not the
session will lock (and require a password) after a certain time. The
dialog presents these as indpeendent options, but in reality, the lock
will NEVER operate unless you also enable Turn screen off

The Lock option should be grayed out/disabled if Turn screen off
  is not enabled.

Much better would be to change the code so that the two functions are
independent of each other. Surely it should be possible to lock the
session after a set time even if you don't have the screen set to turn
  off.

As it stands, users can be fooled into thinking that their session
will lock after a set time when in reality that will not happen unless
they have also enabled Turn screen off.

In addition, at present the Lock options for 30 secs, 1 minute, etc
actually represent the time delay AFTER the screen is turned off. So
for example if you set Turn screen off to 5 minutes and Lock to 2
minutes, the session will lock after 5+2 = 7 minutes.

Lock screen assumes the language or last active application

Status in “gnome-screensaver” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
There is a slight (annoying) design problem:
When the Desktop locks (either automatically, or manually), the lock screen's
language would be set to the one in the last active window.

So, say I have English as Default language in the system, and one window
(Say, Skype, but I reproduced this specifically with Xchat window).
Using Alt-Tab, set the typing language to another (in my case, Hebrew).
Then, either wait for timeout, or use the mouse to lock the screen
(Ctrl-Alt-L would not work because its Hebrew typing selected, but I think that
is another bug but less annoying me).

When you get the lock screen, you will see the input type is set to
the non-English language (in my case, Hebrew).

configured, but xkl_config_rec_get_from_server() will only return 'ca'
and xkl_engine_get_num_groups() will return 1, instead of 2.

I believe this is also causing the keyboard layouts to not appear on
  the login screen.

  **
   SRU Justification
  **

  ** Impact of bug **
The legacy inhibit API was removed from gnome-screensaver, as the
gnome-session inhibit API is the preferred way to inhibit the screensaver. The
legacy API required applications to poll the screensaver regularly to
simulate user activity. The new API requires applications to register
inhibitors, which will exist until they are removed, or the application exits.

xdg-screensaver is used by a lot of desktop-neutral applications
including games and VLC, and this wraps the legacy gnome-screensaver
API in GNOME. This means that screensaver inhibiting is currently
broken in GNOME for any application which hasn't been ported to the
  new inhibit API.

  ** Description of changes **
The existing legacy API still exists in gnome-screensaver, but is currently
just a stub. I've added code to this which resets the IDLETIME counter, by
simulating fake keypresses using XTEST. The code is already used in
gnome-session and totem, and this method of resetting IDLETIME is also used in
other applications.

Resetting IDLETIME will prevent gnome-session from setting the session
idle (which prevents the screensaver from activating), and will also
prevent gnome-power-manager from dimming the display.

  ** Regression potential **
Minimal. The additional functionality is quite self-contained, and the
existing interface doesn't work at all anyway. The chosen method of resetting
IDLETIME is already used.

  ** TEST CASE **
Using the following versions of gnome-screensaver in turn, perform the steps
detailed below.

PLEASE MAKE SURE that you run killall gnome-screensaver gnome-
screensaver after installing the new version, to ensure that you are
  testing the new version.

  - 2.28.0-0ubuntu3.1 (karmic-security)
  - 2.28.0-0ubuntu3.2 (karmic-proposed)

  1) Open gnome-screensaver-preferences, set the timeout to 1 minute and check
Activate screensaver when computer is idle
  2) Create a script in your home folder called gss-test.sh, and containing
the following:

     #!/bin/sh

     while true; do
     gnome-screensaver-command --poke
     sleep 30
     done

  3) Run the script (sh ~/gss-test.sh), and wait

With version 2.28.0-0ubuntu3.1 of gnome-screesaver, the screensaver will
activate after 1 minute.
With version 2.28.0-0ubuntu3.2, the screensaver will not activate as long as
the script is still running. If you run gnome-power-manager --verbose in a
separate terminal, you will notice the following sequence of messages each time
the IDLETIME counter is reset by gnome-screensaver, which you won't see with
the old version:

Title:
13.04 no prompt for password on the login screen when password set via
  passwd

Status in “gnome-screensaver” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Steps to reproduce issue:
This is not inital account. It's an additional account (2nd user in system)
which i tried to add after installation.

  1. Create new Administrator user account.
  2. Do not create the password for this account just activate account - give
to this account possibility to log in without password.
  3. Log out from current user and log in to new user account.
  4. Run terminal and add/set password for this account via passwd:
  passwd
i created a simple password like qwerty
  5. log out and try to log in again.

In my case, i still could log in to this account without password
prompt - instead of password prompt i have only Log in button - which
i think this shouldn't be an option and user should be asked already
for password. What is also strange, when i tried to change the
password via System Settings-User accounts i was able to do it but
still i could log in to system without password prompt.

Other thing to point out is why during installation for initial account i can
setup as my password qwertyu but then when i'm trying to create new user this
password would be to weak but i don't have this problem when i'm adding
password via passwd terminal command? I think i should be:
  a) no weak passwrod even during initial setup;
  b) when creating weak password customer is warn but able to continue anyway.
