[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2007913] Re: HDMI Output sound has disappeared after Ubuntu update

2023-04-09 Thread Nikola Krneta
Hi,

I also have the same issue.
In my case, I use DP to connect my monitor to my computer and I was able to use
the monitor's built in audio without problems.
I have even reinstalled Ubuntu just to check if it was my fault that the audio
stopped working.
Note, the audio works on Windows.

I am currently on kernel 5.19.0-38-generic.

2021-10-19 Thread Nikola M
When I do right-click on .deb package and open it with Gdebi-gtk,
and try to install a package on 21.10 (also used to happen od 21.04)
program closes.

I have downloaded 0.9.5.7+nmu6 and I think I have built it with dpkg-
buildpackage - us -uc and still happens the same.

0.9.5.7+nmu6 works of gdebi-gtk is called from Terminal and .deb opened via
File>Open ,
but it does not when on right-click and install in Thunar.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1923437] [NEW] can't set 2560x1440 resolution after installing nvidia drivers

2021-04-12 Thread nikola
Public bug reported:

Hello !

I have 2 monitors
1) one is 4K
2) another one is FULLHD,
when I installed lubuntu I had 4k monitor work at maximum 4k and another at
fullhd , I want to change that 4k monitor to 2560x1440(2k).

after install nvidia drivers there is no 2560x1440 resolution in
"monitor settings" resolutions tab like it was before installing
drivers. when trying to add it manually from xrandr, at some point it
gives me that error:

X Error of failed request: BadName (named color or font does not exist)
Major opcode of failed request: 140 (RANDR)
Minor opcode of failed request: 16 (RRCreateMode)
Serial number of failed request: 35

in short , I can't set monitor to 2560x1440. what it might be ?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1901157] Re: [Raven/Raven2/FireFlight/Renoir AMD Ryzen] No Sound at all

2020-11-08 Thread Nikola Snele
Hi, installing older packages

sudo dpkg -i libasound2_1.2.2-2.1ubuntu2_amd64.deb
libasound2-data_1.2.2-2.1ubuntu2_all.deb

fixed sound issues on my Lenovo Ideapad 5 14are05 with Ryzen 4500u.

Please release fix asap, this is a huge bug (to lose sound after
update).

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1798790] Re: Ubuntu 18.10 login screen never appears when using the Nvidia driver

Just to say that I've tested the '#WaylandEnable=false' method (I was
having the same problem with the nVidia drivers) and it works great!

Title:
Ubuntu 18.10 login screen never appears when using the Nvidia driver

Status in gdm3 package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in mutter package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gdm/issues/435

  ---

The boot process hangs with the last message being "started bpfilter".
There is unusual Network activity during that time. The light of the
WiFi adapter is blinking a lot.

I am not sure the problem is with the gdm3 package. As a matter of
fact, I would remove it and let someone more experienced to set it.
I'm afraid I might break something, though.

The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem: 1. Boot Ubuntu 18.10 with the Nvidia proprietary drivers
  installed.

The behavior you expected: I expected Ubuntu 18.10 to boot normally.

The behavior you actually encountered: The computer gets stuck in a
command-like environment with the last message being "started
bpfilter". You can't type any commands.

I have found that uninstalling the Nvidia proprietary drivers by going
into recovery mode fixes the issue.

Booting with the earlier kernel doesn't fix the issue. Installing the
earlier v.340 driver also doesn't fix the issue.

  This (https://askubuntu.com/questions/1032639/ubuntu-18-04-stuck-in-
  boot-after-starting-gnome-display-manager-on-intel-graphic) seems
relevant. This is where I found the "solution".

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1799747] [NEW] Xorg freeze

2018-10-24 Thread Nikola Chikos
Public bug reported:

I can't run Ubuntu 18.10 with nVidia drivers (340.107). They ran just

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 510059] Re: Gvfs keeps asking for password when trying to mount Samba share

2016-05-24 Thread Nikola
After some browsing it turns out this is not really a bug, but shall we
say a "security feature".

There is this pklocalauthority stuff (see man page) that basically makes
authorization things more complex, and to me, not logical. See
ralph.ronnquist comment at Debian user forums page
http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?f=5=128280

Therefore, it turns out the nautilus/gvfs-mount needs your password, but
not for remote system. It wants your password for LOCAL system... that
worked for me, no matter how strange it is. I mean, the nautilus clearly
states it needs a username/password for remote system?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 510059] Re: Gvfs keeps asking for password when trying to mount Samba share

2016-05-24 Thread Nikola
Same here... I have started with 14.04LTS and I could reach a Win2008
machine. After several updates, somewhere in the first quarter of 2016,
I believe something things got strange. I purged samba and reinstalled
it - no change.

I have several personal shared folders, made from nautilus, and all Win
machines can reach them (as guest user).

However, I can not reach a Win2008 server or other Win7 - shared folder.
Both gvfs-mount and nautilus dialogue keep asking for password/domain
again and again.

Setting aforementioned combinations such as:
client lanman auth = no
client ntlmv2 auth = no
client ntlm = yes
.. does not help.

So I have browsed the old /etc/samba/ and have found several older smb.conf
files:
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 9542 Mar 1 2015 smb.conf.old.gadmin-samba-0.3.2
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 9542 Jun 11 2015 smb.conf.ucf-dist
Basically, these two old were from time when everything was ok, and guess what,
after I have copied them in smb.conf, nautilus and gvfs-mount still were not
working (and keep asking for password/domain).

There you have it. It is not a thing in smb.conf, but (my best guess)
the bug is probably in gvfs-mont.

Re: [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1451276] Re: No mouse over highlight in libreoffice menus in Kubuntu

2016-01-22 Thread Nikola Snele
Kubuntu devs doesn't seem to follow this bug.

Btw I asked them few times last couple years about shipping libreoffice-gtk
instead of buggy libreoffice-kde, but they seemed not interesed.

You can ask them yourself in kubuntu-devel irc channal
 on freenode.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1002978] Re: [meta-bug] Inverted Internal microphone (phase inversion)

2015-10-10 Thread Nikola Snele
Can confirm the bug on Lenovo g50-80.

Alsa-hda-dkms package doesn't help (there is no "Inverted Internal Mic"
entry in alsamixer after reboot).

Removed alsa-hda-dkms and tried "option snd-hda-intel model=auto" but it
doesn't help.

Workaround "mute right channel" works but can it be fixed permanently (I
don't want to manually mute right mic channel every time I use skype)?

Title:
[meta-bug] Inverted Internal microphone (phase inversion)

Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
This is a metabug for all machines that are having phase inverted
  internal microphones.

If your internal mic is either completely silent (no signal), or you
can possibly pick a very small sound, with much background noise, even
though you have set gain to maximum, there is something you could try.

Install the pavucontrol application, start it and go to the "Input Devices"
tab. Unlock the channels (there is a keylock icon), then mute the right channel
while keeping the left channel at the volume you want.
If the internal mic is now working correctly, you have an inverted internal
mic, so that your right channel cancels out the left one.

(If you're not running PulseAudio, you can try doing the same through
AlsaMixer instead (see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/Alsamixer ), try
changing "Capture" level or "Internal Mic" or "Internal Mic Boost"
  using the Q,E,Z,C keys.)

If so, please file a separate bug against the alsa-driver for your
issue, make sure hardware info gets attached to it (either alsa-info
as per https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/AlsaInfo or the standard ones
that follows when you do "ubuntu-bug alsa-driver" ), then write a
comment in this bug, with your machine name and a pointer to the other
  bug.

As time permits, I'll try to work on fixing them for the next Ubuntu release.
Thanks!

(If you're not running PulseAudio, you can try doing the same through
AlsaMixer instead (see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/Alsamixer ), try
changing "Capture" level or "Internal Mic" or "Internal Mic Boost"
  using the Q,E,Z,C keys.)

Thanks!

2015-05-20 Thread Nikola Kovacevic
Someone should really look into this bug, I've been getting it *at
least* once per day on my thinkpad t60 (it's more like 2-3 times daily
on average though) running xubuntu 15.04 64 bit, rendering whole
operating system pretty much unusable for anything that requires
longer/permanent internet connection...

Logs show same errors as the ones already attached.

From what I can see this is set here: http://bazaar.launchpad.net
  /~ubuntu-branches/ubuntu/trusty/ubuntu-drivers-common/trusty-
  proposed/view/head:/share/hybrid/gpu-manager.c#L1588

I am seeing this on a trusty system with nvidia-346 driver on both
  3.16 and 3.13 kernels.

The end result of doing this worng is that system boots up with black
  screen.

As a workaround I have commented out gpu-manager in /etc/init/gpu-
manager.conf (when starting lightdm) and in /sbin/prime-switch (when
  stopping lightdm).

You can remove libreoffice-kde and install libreoffice-gtk. That way you
will get gnome file dialog which is better than generic one which now
pops up with libreoffice-kde installed.

2014-09-16 Thread Nikola Snele
@Adolfo Jayme (fitojb)

With installed libreoffice-kde this bug appears.

I have removed libreoffice-kde and installed libreoffice-gtk to
workaround this bug (to get decent file dialog).

So I don't think this bug is invalid.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1272338] Re: Xorg memory leak on trusty

2014-04-20 Thread Nikola Nikolov
I know this specific bug was fixed, but I just wanted to say that I just
installed Ubuntu 14.04. My PC has been running for over 9 hours for now
and Xorg has not been using more than 200 MB RAM(whereas before the
update, the memory consumption would keep drastically increasing over
time). I can now finally run 2 separate Chrome windows(usually 2
different user sessions with multiple tabs open), without my computer
freezing for over 10 minutes sometimes.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1294666] Re: [HSW mesa kde needs Xorg-1.15.1] Multiple tiling-esque artifacts in KDE

2014-04-15 Thread Nikola Snele
I think you should reset kwin to default settings. This is what I did:

1) Update system
2) Log out and ctrl+alt+f1 and log in
3) sudo service lightdm stop
4) rm ~/.kde/share/config/kwinrc
5) sudo reboot

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1299499]

2014-04-06 Thread Tasev Nikola
Hi,

I also have this bug , my system is:

Kubuntu Trusty Thar

Intel(R) Pentium(R) CPU P6000 @ 1.87GHz in HP G72 notebook

glxinfo | grep OpenGL
OpenGL vendor string: Intel Open Source Technology Center
OpenGL renderer string: Mesa DRI Intel(R) Ironlake Mobile
OpenGL version string: 2.1 Mesa 10.1.0
OpenGL shading language version string: 1.20

I try the proposed patch with

sudo apt-get build-dep mesa
apt-get source mesa
cd mesa*/

Then a change the line proposed in the patch in
/src/mesa/drivers/dri/i965/brw_context.c

dpkg-source --commit
dpkg-buildpackage

sudo dpkg -i libgl1-mesa-dri libgl1-mesa-glx

Then i reboot but the bug is still there , kwin crashes if i enable desktop
effects,
here is the krash log:

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 601632] Re: Xorg/Radeon driver freezed after an hour of playing flash videos

2014-01-08 Thread Nikola M
Hi, thank you for your response.
I do not posses hardware anymore, so can not personally do more testing on that
hardware.

If it could help, i think I remember using later versions of XUbuntu on that
hardware
and don't remember I could not use it.

So it is to someone else to test it further and up to you to retract this bug
report,
since original poster (me) is unable to test it anymore, due to hardware
absence.
Thank you.

Title:
Xorg/Radeon driver freezed after an hour of playing flash videos

Status in “xserver-xorg-video-ati” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

Motherboard is with Amd 690G int. graphics, (x1250) and Xubuntu 10.04
  LTS 64-bit.

I was playing flash you tube videos inside Firefox (about 20 of them
one by one) and suddenly, mouse started to move slowly, Hard disc
started to work and I after few seconds, lost control over desktop.
(even when I was turning numlock on and off, it was slowly.

I could not log into console since it was spitting radeon driver errors
I could only (slowly) log in with ssh to it, to see with top that Xorg is
using 100% cpu, after that, i kulled firefox with pkill and still it was Xorg
locked. (Ctrl+Alt+F7 could not switch back to X).
Then I killed gsm with sudo and Xorg process but again, could not log in to
console anymore, but console stopped spitting radeon errors.
So I halt it and reboot it and post this bug.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 919809] Re: [CMI8788] Xonar DG: no front panel or recording support

2013-12-17 Thread Nikola Bijelić
Hello. Sorry for asking silly questions, but I'm not a tech guy. Does
comment #10 mean I can use this to get my microphone working? If yes,
what do I do? I have the same issue - mic not working on Xonar DG...
Thanks.

Title:
[CMI8788] Xonar DG: no front panel or recording support

Status in ALSA driver:
  New
Status in “alsa-driver” package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
Running precise, though I don't recall this working in oneiric either.

None of the front panel outputs/inputs on the Xonar DG are detected at
all. They are hooked up, as it works fine on Windows. Plugging in
headphones doesn't switch the output, and a microphone on the front is
  not detected.

In sound preferences and pavucontrol, the card is listed as having
three connectors: Analog Output / Speaker (works), Analog Output /
Headphones 1, and Analog Output / Headphones 2. Changing the
selected connector has no effect, and reverts back to Speaker when the
settings view is reloaded. Additionally, setting via pacmd results in
  failed to set sink port.[1]

Interestingly enough, alsamixer has an Analog Output selector with
different outputs than reported by PulseAudio. These are Speakers,
Headphones, and FP Headphones. Switching between these produces an
audible click from the sound card (normal, it's in the switching
circuit) so it's definitely communicating with the card. However, the
front panel audio still does not work. Both Speakers and FP Headphones
play out of the speakers, while Headphones outputs nothing at all.

Interestingly, alsamixer has no volume sliders for output, but that's
a separate issue. (The output sliders do work in PulseAudio, so that's
  good enough for now.)
