This would show each contact on a single line that was just tall enough to display the contact's username. This way, I would be able to use my high resolution monitor to view all of my online contacts simultaneously. Under Empathy 3.6 on quantal, the option for a compact mode disappeared and each contact in the list takes about 3 times the vertical space needed to display the contact's username. Now even with my high resolution montor, I can only view about 1/3 of my online contacts at a time. Please bring back the compact mode. I just want to say that I completely agree with everything in this bug description. That's it. Adium does this by default (IIRC), Pidgin has a unofficial plugin that lets you do that, it's very useful IMHO. The Contact List content is very dynamic, sometimes the window is too short and you have to scroll to see who's online, sometimes you only have one online contact and 9/10th of the window is simply white space. I had the same bug after an upgrade from 11.10 to 12.04. Solved by deleting ~/.pulse folder. Only browsers and OpenShot Video editor have no sound on output. (2) Are you using Firefox, or some other browser? Firefox and Chromium (3) Does the problem occur in another web browser? (If you are using Firefox, you could try Chromium, which you can get by installing the package called chromium-browser in the Software Center.) All other browsers. (4) Does the problem occur in another user account? If you only have one user account, you can create a second one for testing purposes.
