[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2001910] Re: Libreoffice Impress crashes when exiting presentation with high-dpi scaling in GNOME

2023-01-31 Thread peterfrank
More information: checking the box "Use Skia for all rendering" (while
keeping hardware acceleration on) also avoids the crash.

Title:
Libreoffice Impress crashes when exiting presentation with high-dpi
  scaling in GNOME

Status in libreoffice package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
On Ubuntu 22.04.01, LibreOffice Impress (version
1:7.3.7-0ubuntu0.22.04.1) crashes when exiting the presentation mode,
if I enable 200% scaling in GNOME settings on my high-dpi screen. The
application window disappears silently instead of returning to the
editing mode. The error message is (if Impress is started from a
  terminal):

X-Error: BadDrawable (invalid Pixmap or Window parameter)
Major opcode: 62 (X_CopyArea)
Resource ID: 0x1202be7
Serial No:59699 (59699)
  These errors are reported asynchronously,
set environment variable SAL_SYNCHRONIZE to 1 to help debugging
  Unspecified Application Error

The crash occurs reliably every time. The crash does not happen if I
do not use scaling in GNOME display settings, or if I turn off the
"hardware acceleration" option in Impress --> Tools --> Options -->
LibreOffice --> View --> Graphics Output.

Yes, I found the identical problem appears with the PPA version you
pointed to, LibreOffice 7.4.4.2 40(Build:2). It seems to be an upstream
bug to me.

2023-01-05 Thread peterfrank
Additional info: the bug occurs on both Wayland and Xorg sessions on my
Ubuntu 22.04 installation.

(Before I upgraded Ubuntu, I also experienced the problem on 20.04, with
all recent versions of LibreOffice including both official Ubuntu
versions and more updated PPA versions, but only in Xorg sessions not
Wayland sessions.)

Another update: I've installed the Cinnamon desktop within Ubuntu 20.04
and used it for several days. Again the problem never appears, like in
KDE. Only GNOME has this problem, at least on my laptop.

The problem never appears when I install and use KDE plasma desktop
within the same OS, even though the underlying hardware and drivers are
unchanged. So the problem seems specific to GNOME.

2020-10-02 Thread peterfrank
I confirm that Paul Müller's workaround works for me on Ubuntu 20.04. I
need to read off the touchscreen ID from the output of "xinput". After
that, I disable the touchscreen, and enable it again after I swipe
gently on the screen. This usually makes the problem go away, without
leaving the touchscreen disabled.

Nautilus Bookmarks Stick to mouse cursor when clicked

Status in nautilus package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Hi,

On this computer when I click on a saved bookmark it sticks to my
mouse cursor until I hit esc.

  Steps to reproduce:
  1) Drag a folder in nautilus to the side panel and drop it as a bookmark.
  2) Click the Home folder, so it isn't highlighted.
  3) Click the folder shortcut you added.
  4) Move your mouse toward the right part of the window as if you were now
going to select an item.
  5) Note that the bookmark stuck to your mouse cursor.

I tried to delete the bookmark, but can't seem to do that either,
because it is stuck to my mouse.

To better explain this I made a video.

Upgraded to beta release of 20.4 and Nautilus file manager now is
exhibiting a problem reported in older versions. When clicking on

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1873026] Re: File manager grabs favorites folders on left

2020-09-23 Thread peterfrank
I have the same problem in Ubuntu 20.04, and also 19.10 before
upgrading. The problem occurs sporadically. I can confirm that the
problem disappears after reboot, or if I just log out and log in again.
When the problem occurs, it also triggers weird mouse behavior in a few
other applications such as Zoom, so it seems to affect more than
Nautilus bookmarks.
