2017-12-23 Thread rithik g
By manually compiling libfaac I meant the gstreamer faac from gst-
plugins-bad located in

gst-plugins-bad/gst-plugins-bad1.0-1.12.4/ext/faac

not libfaac, which should anyway be installed as part of build
dependency for gstreamer faac, as below:

# apt-get install libfaac-dev

The following additional packages will be installed:
  libfaac0
The following NEW packages will be installed:
  libfaac-dev libfaac0
0 upgraded, 2 newly installed, 0 to remove and 72 not upgraded.
Need to get 96.7 kB of archives.
After this operation, 381 kB of additional disk space will be used.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1594043] Re: Can't select mp4 encoder settings

2017-12-23 Thread rithik g
Tried manually compiling libfaac and copying it to /usr/lib/x86_64
-linux-gnu/gstreamer-1.0/

Now debian lists faac too

rem@debian:~$ gst-inspect-1.0 | grep -i aac
faac: faac: AAC audio encoder
...

Now, CBR / VBR profiles are now visible in Rhythmbox ( debian ) and
hence should be in Rhythmbox ( ubuntu ) too.

So, the conclusion is that bug scope is outside of Rhythmbox ( Ubuntu )

2017-12-23 Thread rithik g
whereas with debian and its derivatives ( Ubuntu / Mint ), aac encoder
from libav is used.

Refer https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gst-plugins-
bad1.0/+bug/1299376

rem@debian:~$ gst-inspect-1.0 | grep -i aac
libav: avenc_aac: libav AAC (Advanced Audio Coding) encoder
libav: avdec_aac: libav AAC (Advanced Audio Coding) decoder
...

rem@debian:~$ gst-inspect-1.0 avenc_aac
...
  bitrate : Target Audio Bitrate
flags: readable, writable
Integer. Range: 0 - 2147483647 Default: 0

I guess from the above, libav's aac encoder supports only default
configuration. Can't see a quality element property here.

Below is the case for Fedora ( and possibly arch ), which use faac
encoder.

[rem@fc25 ~]$ gst-inspect-1.0 | grep -i aac
faac: faac: AAC audio encoder
faad: faad: AAC audio decoder
...

[rem@fc25 ~]$ gst-inspect-1.0 faac
...
quality : Variable bitrate (VBR) quantizer quality in %
flags: readable, writable
Integer. Range: 1 - 1000 Default: 100

bitrate : Average Bitrate (ABR) in bits/sec
flags: readable, writable
Integer. Range: 8000 - 32 Default: 128000

which supports cbr and vbr, and hence their gstreamer profiles. Refer to
below attachments.

(rhythmbox:3379): Gtk-WARNING **: Duplicate child name in GtkStack: Zur

Then I return to the rhythmbox window and click the play button and
this is happening in the terminal:

  (rhythmbox:3379): Rhythmbox-CRITICAL **: impl_play: assertion
'mp->priv->playbin != NULL' failed
Gtk-Message: GtkDialog mapped without a transient parent. This is discouraged.

So rhythmbox can't play mp3's and can't import my music library due to this
error I believe.

  Audio-CD extracting not possible

Status in rhythmbox package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS (Xubuntu)
  rhythmbox 3.3-1ubuntu7

It is not possible to extract Audio-CDs with Rhythmbox. When starting
  an Audio-CD extraction Rhythmbox prompts:

Error transferring track. Internal data flow error.

Starting Rhythmbox in a terminal, the command line tells:

  (rhythmbox:2854): GStreamer-CRITICAL **: gst_pad_link_full: assertion
  'GST_IS_PAD (sinkpad)' failed.

I have this problem since Xubuntu 16.4. On Xubuntu 14.4. I didn't have
this problem. On Xubuntu 14.4 I had a folder .gstreamer-0.10. There is
no aequivalent hidden folder in /home/user. I reinstalled
libsgstreamer0.10-0, but this didn't solve the problem. I only
understand that sink means output. I have no idea.

The manual does not explain what "party mode" is. The status bar help
text is not helpful at all; when you hover the cursor over the Party
Mode menu entry, it laconically says "Change the status of the party
  mode". (Is that even English?)

I was scared that it would ruin all my playlists and send my email
address to the spammers, but I tried it anyway. It seems to toggle a
full-screen view. Then why is it not called "Full Screen"? Does it
  do something more?

  The top Google hit http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=694932
seems inconclusive to me. Does Party mode involve changes in how the
play queue can be manipulated and/or how the computer can be used?

  Minimal fix:
   * Describe Party Mode in the on-line help

  Bonus points:
   * Improve the Status bar help text

I'd like to download all my podcasts with one application. At the
moment I download audio podcasts with rhythmbox and video podcasts
with the now unsupported ipodder. I would like to get my video
podcasts via rhythmbox also. I appreciate that rhythmbox is not a
video player, but it is a podcast downloader, and the mechanism for
downloading an audio podcast doesn't differ from a video one. Indeed
rhythmbox does actually download video podcasts but marks them as
"failed". If you double click an audio podcast it plays, if you double
click a video podcast (that has already downloaded, but is tagged as
failed) it starts downloading again. So...

Could you please allow rhythmbox to download video podcasts without marking
them as failed?
Could rhythmbox transfer video podcasts to an iPod video?
Could rhythmbox please kick off the default media player (totem?) when a
video podcast is double clicked?

Not sure if these are all separate wishlists or bugs. If so I can
  break them up.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1645688] Re: Last.fm stopped scrobbling

Alec,

the -D option to rhythmbox is for function name / file name matching.
Lastfm plugin is part of audioscrobbler plugin ( all files and function
names have audioscrobbler not lastfm ), so you should do

rhythmbox -D audioscrobbler

to get lastfm related log.

Bug description:

Visualizations appear to -start- in Ubuntu 9.10's version of
Rhythmbox, but on my system they only get as far as a single frame and
don't display any more than that. Rhythmbox itself does not appear to
be crashing as visualizations can be turned back off and on again, but
they'll never actually appear in motion. This was not an issue on the
  same system running 9.04.

Status in Rhythmbox:

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: rhythmbox

Rhythm boxes visualization freezes after playing one song.

  To reproduce:
  1. Open rhythmbox and add at least 2 songs to the play queue (some of the
tests will need four or five).
  2. Turn on the visualization.
  3. Wait for the first song to finish playing (or even skip to close to the
end).
  4. Notice that the visualization freezes, even though the second song has
started.
  5. Click the visualization button on and off and notice the visualization is
still frozen, but changes every time you cycle the visualization button.
  6. Clear the play queue and start a song (if one doesn't start automatically).
  7. Notice that the visualization runs faster than normal.
  8. Close rhythmbox.

  9. Repeat steps 1-3, except press the next button right before the end of the
first song and notice that visualization doesn't freeze when the next (second)
song starts. At the end of this next song, notice the visualization doesn't
freeze on the third or any subsequent songs, except between albums.
  10. Close rhythmbox.

  11. Repeat steps 1-5, stopping with the visualization enabled.
  12. Click next.
  13. Notice the visualization unfreezes (and of course, you are taken to the
next song), and that no subsequent song changes cause the visualization to
freeze, except between albums.

The arrows that indicate the state of the collapsible menu in the

attached screenshot shows that they are on the right on the menu, when
they should be on the left for the following reasons:

  1. The large space between the end of the menu name and the arrow make
it unclear that there is a relationship between the two, leading to
  user confusion.

  2. Having the arrows on the left is what user's have been trained,
through their use of software, to expect. Having them on the right
violates the principle of least astonishment [1].

I propose that the arrows be moved over to the left.

  6) You get a message saying "Unable to load the feed. Check your network
connection." and the podcast URL is

Versionstabelle:
   *** 3.4.1-2ubuntu1 500
  500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu zesty/main amd64 Packages
  100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

  Behavior:

via the commandline the rythembox client can skip to a specific second via
the command
rhythmbox-client --seek

This works for seeking up to second 2147.
Any number beyond that skips to the next track, even if the track is longer
instead of going to the correct position in the file itself (the track has
over 4000 seconds)

my guess is that that the internal format is a signed 32-Bit Int that
overflows.
  2148 seconds = 214800 milliseconds -> cast to Int32 is -2146967296

which would certainly produce an error (seeking to a negative number)

window, music still plays. Still visible via ps command and not
visible in ALT-TAB of open applications. Need to actually kill the

Title:
Rhythmbox crashed when I added to a large Play Queue

Status in rhythmbox package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
Rhythmbox just crashed on my Ubuntu 14.04 system on a Dell GX620. The Dell
mimitower has the integrated sound and 4 GB RAM.
The action that apparently provoked the crash was: I dragged and dropped
three files from the Music list (in the main pane) onto the Play Queue icon (in
the left pane). It was playing (not paused) at the time. Earlier in the day, I
had pointed rhythmbox to my audio directory (in Preferences). RB had finished
adding the tracks to the Music list. But afterward, I had made a few changes in
some of the subdirectories of my audio directory.

At the time, Chromium was using a great deal of RAM, and tabs were
open which had played video with sound.

After the music stopped, apport displayed that there was not enough
free memory to analyze and report the crash. System Monitor showed
  over 2 GB free.

I realize my usage is a little extreme:

   - System monitor showed the rhythmbox process was using 255 MB of memory
before apport killed it.

   - My audio directory contains over 50,000 tracks

   - There were 125 tracks in the Play Queue at the time. I had dragged and
dropped them there, one at a time or a few at a time, from the Music list.

  Hi.

Some of the songs were less loud than others so I activated

Now Rhythmbox plays one or two songs and then freezes, turns all grey
and I have to force-quit it.

Everything work fine again as soon as I disable replay-gain.

(I thought that bug with replay gain was fixed with RB 3.0.1)

By the way I'm using RB 3.0.2 in Ubuntu 14.04 / unity DE.

Title:
  rhytembox-client --print-playing-format %te partially broken

Status in rhythmbox package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Hello Launchpad,

I was setting up keyboard shortcuts for controlling rhytembox entirely
via keyboard in the background. While most of the commands can be
bound quite easily using the rhytembox-client, i found a weird
behavior when using the current time to skip ahead (using seek)

In order to get the current position in the track, in use the command
  rhytembox-client --print-playing-format %te

As this gives me the format in hour:minute:seconds. This works up to a
track length of 1:11:34, then there seems to be an error, and counting
starts from 0 again; here is an example of the output while listening
  to a long track:

  while true; do rhythmbox-client --print-playing-format %te; sleep 1; done
  1:11:30
  1:11:31
  1:11:32
  1:11:33
  1:11:34
  Unbekannt
  0:01
  0:02
  0:03
  0:04
  0:05
  0:06
  0:07
  ^C

I've tested this with several tracks - they all split behave the same.
So my guess is that this is some kind of overflow in the timing ?

Of course, not many tracks are that long, but i'd still like to point
this out. Makes the while skipping forward via the client very hard,
as the time playing is not really reliable.

Not sure if this should be mentioned here or go into the wishlist, but
it would be great if the output format could also print seconds. It
would be very useful with seek to easily fast forward/backward.

  Thanks in advance

This is an issue with the Peas gtk plugin manager.

https://developer.gnome.org/libpeas/stable/PeasGtkPluginManager.html

Nothing to do with rhythmbox. Other apps like totem, gedit ( Preferences

Status in rhythmbox package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
rhythmbox crashes with segfault every time shortly after startup since my
upgrade from ubuntu 15.10 to 16.04.
This is while importing media files.

My music library is in ~/Musik, Musik is a soft link to a directory on an
encrypted partition.
~/Musik is set in the preferences, yet rhythmbox still looks at my whole file
system.

The last file mentioned in the output of "rhythmbox -d >rb.out" is not always
the same.
It is however the same if I run rhythmbox several times in a row.
It seems to be always outside of my music library.
A few 1000 files are imported before the crash occurs.

I have this problem since Xubuntu 16.4. On Xubuntu 14.4. I didn't have

There is nothing to show up in "Tools" ( menu is empty ), when rhythmbox
is switched to fullscreen.

"Tools -> Plugins" is directly accessible as "Plugins" in the main menu.
If you enable "Python Console" plugin, the "Tools" menu will have that
entry though.

  4) What happened instead

4.1 As soon as starting the app, the screen greys out, as if running
low on system resources. I can now rule that possibility out, because
I had only just booted, I had not started any other applications, and
this computer has LOADS of memory and LOADS of processing power. This
'greying out' lasts for about 30 seconds or so, and I cannot use the
application at all during this time.

4.2 Also right near the end of this 'greying out' time, an error
message appears, saying "The application Rhythmbox has closed
unexpectedly", despite the fact that the application Rhythmbox HAS NOT
closed. I attach a screenshot of the message.

This bug has been occurring for more than a year, and occurs EVERY
TIME that I start the application.

Run the following commands in terminal ( Terminal Emulator )

2. apt-get install gstreamer1.0-plugins-ugly

Now extract should work fine.

This is not a bug in rhythmbox code. It is in "alternative-toolbar"
plugin which was included by default and enabled in Ubuntu. You can file
a bug for the plugin at

But: in nautilus the audio-cd appears in the right panel and a button on the
right for opening in rhythmbox.
Pressing this button opens the audio-cd in rhythmbox with tagging.
But no ripping is possible ?
In older versions the audio-cd was opened directly in rhythmbox and there
where options
  for ripping.

Audio CD should appear under "Other Sources" in the left pane.

Enable "Preferences -> View -> Show Source Toolbar" to see ripping
options. ( This option is not persistent across rhythmbox restarts,
which it should be )

Still cannot reproduce. Is it on 17.10 ? Do you have rhythmbox already
open while clicking the link in firefox ? More information might help.

It would be nice if the function threw an exception when did not get

swap issue. Please recheck and attach a proper backtrace, if the crash
