[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.
Kim, First try this: Install gnome-tweak-tool (should pull in gnome-tweaks) Than in the gui: Tweak tool >> Typing >> Modifiers of input sources switch >> Alt shift. First time, I was able to bypass this bug by installing Unity desktop (planned on it anyway), and configuring the shortcut there. The settings are transferred to gnome shell settings. how-to install unity has been detailed here: https://linuxconfig.org/ubuntu-20-04-unity-desktop In case you want to keep it: https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/testing-unity-session-in-focal-fossa-20-04/13692 And how to remove it: https://www.makeuseof.com/tag/remove-unity-desktop-ubuntu/ But my guess is that in gnome shell it was disabled intentionally as it breaks other shortcuts: https://askubuntu.com/questions/1075604/disabling-altshift-to-switch-keyboard-layouts-in-ubuntu-18-04 https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/68/gnome-3-22-disable-altshift-keyboard-layout-switching There are also some suggestions for command line config, but I did not try this: https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/316998/how-to-change-keyboard-layout-in-gnome-3-from-command-line -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-settings-daemon in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1218322 Title: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc. Status in GNOME Settings Daemon: Unknown Status in Ubuntu Flashback: New Status in Ubuntu GNOME: Fix Released Status in Ubuntu GNOME Flashback: New Status in gnome-control-center package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in gnome-settings-daemon package in Ubuntu: Triaged Status in gnome-control-center package in ALT Linux: Unknown Status in gnome-control-center package in Baltix: Confirmed Status in gnome-control-center package in Gentoo Linux: Unknown Status in gnome-control-center package in Mandriva: Unknown Bug description: [Impact] Can't set keyboard layout change to Ctrl+Shift, Caps Lock, Alt+Shift, etc. Shift, Caps Lock keys are just ignored in settings. [Test Case] - open gnome-control-center's text input settings - click on the "next layout key" entry - try entering a combination of two modifier keys such as Ctrl+Shift -> the UI should reflect the new keys - add at least two input sources through gnome-control-center's text entry settings - press and release Ctrl+Shift -> the current input source should change [Regression Potential] That UI was not working before, it should only be an improvement (some key combos are not working as expected, that's another issue and shouldn't be mixed with this one) The input switching shortcut might capture other non-modifier shortcuts, but users will need to consider this when choosing their switching shortcut anyways. For users this bug affects, this represents a working solution for a critical bug. -- Test results for different keyboard layout change hotkeys may be viewed and added in the Google Docs table, created by Norbert (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Ao5e713Ig9g_dEJrX2NRYlpLWWVzSWxsVXU4ck9HYVE=sharing). [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1644007] Re: Intel HD Graphics 5500 Drivers Cap Resolution at 1366x768 and don't support video out for external displays
Thanks for the catch Daniel; updated the description. It was the new laptop with the Intel HD Graphics 5500 integrated card that resolution was capped and video out wasn't working. The old laptop has a Haswell-ULT Integrated Graphics Controller for which the drivers work just fine. Amusingly, after putting the SSD back into the old one; the HDMI port started working again. Maybe the slight jiggling from reassembling the case fixed a connection to the port? I had tried multiple cables, monitors and adapters previously, so the port was definitely dead prior. Anyway, now that I'm back in the old laptop, I won't be able to test/reproduce this. ** Description changed: Dell latitude e7450, Ubuntu 14.04 LTS. - Swapped disk from latitude e7450 with faulty HDMI port as a quick fix + Swapped disk from latitude e7440 with faulty HDMI port as a quick fix while it gets repaired/replaced under warranty. It is supposed to be class compliant and works an all distros flawless (even RPI2 and OSMC). After upgrading from 15.10 to 16.04 it stopped to work: after start-up it does not show up as an audio device at all (also not recognized by aplay -l). I can workaround this by unplugging it and plugging it in again after Ubuntu booted up (strangely 2 times unplug/re-plug). After 2nd time plugging it in again it shows up and works great without any further issues until next restart. Maybe worth to note that I recognized today that fwupd uses continuously 100% CPU load, so I just killed it today. My Hardware (Main-board/CPU) is a bit older (Intel E8400), so could probably be some compatibility issue... regards, Tobias ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 16.04 Package: alsa-base 1.0.25+dfsg-0ubuntu5 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.4.0-21.37-generic 4.4.6 Uname: Linux 4.4.0-21-generic i686 NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia_modeset nvidia ApportVersion: 2.20.1-0ubuntu2 Architecture: i386 AudioDevicesInUse: USERPID ACCESS COMMAND /dev/snd/pcmC1D0p: tobias 1553 F...m pulseaudio /dev/snd/controlC1: tobias 1553 F pulseaudio /dev/snd/controlC0: tobias 1553 F pulseaudio /dev/snd/controlC2: tobias 1553 F pulseaudio CurrentDesktop: Unity Date: Sat Apr 23 20:09:04 2016 InstallationDate: Installed on 2015-09-19 (217 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 15.04 "Vivid Vervet" - Release i386 (20150422) PackageArchitecture: all SourcePackage: alsa-driver UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to xenial on 2016-04-22 (0 days ago) dmi.bios.date: 09/30/2008 dmi.bios.vendor: American Megatrends Inc. dmi.bios.version: 1238 dmi.board.asset.tag: To Be Filled By O.E.M. dmi.board.name: P5B-Deluxe dmi.board.vendor: ASUSTeK Computer INC. dmi.board.version: Rev 1.xx dmi.chassis.asset.tag: Asset-1234567890 dmi.chassis.type: 3 dmi.chassis.vendor: Chassis Manufacture dmi.chassis.version: Chassis Version dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnAmericanMegatrendsInc.:bvr1238:bd09/30/2008:svnSystemmanufacturer:pnSystemProductName:pvrSystemVersion:rvnASUSTeKComputerINC.:rnP5B-Deluxe:rvrRev1.xx:cvnChassisManufacture:ct3:cvrChassisVersion: dmi.product.name: System Product Name dmi.product.version: System Version dmi.sys.vendor: System manufacturer To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+bug/1574079/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1041665] Re: gnome-disk-utility is missing palimpsest (renamed to gnome-disks)
affected me too. I'm on xubuntu 14.04, installed the utility from Ubuntu Software Manager (USM), it never appeared in Menu. So i tried it from Terminal like it's named in USM ('gnome-disk-utility), but no success. So i was obliged to search in Synaptic Package Manager (which wasn't installed by default too) where the files are situated. That's a big time waste for nothing. Ubuntu is a good OS but u need to add a little much formality, so end user can see how to launch installed program, even if it's installed from USM! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-disk-utility in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1041665 Title: gnome-disk-utility is missing palimpsest (renamed to gnome-disks) Status in “gnome-disk-utility” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: The description of the gnome-disk-utility package still says: palimpsest (from the gnome-disk-utility project) is a tool to manage disk drives and media, but palimpsest has been renamed to gnome-disks (and made much less intuitive, and harder to read because it does things in places like use white text on light grey - is that gnome3 removing features yet again?). Fortunately it is a tad more stable in Karmic but it gvfs- smb crashed eventually today. Reproduce as follows: 0. Mount a remote smb share via Nautilus. 1. Open Rhythmbox / Exaile / (maybe other software that can generate a lot of traffic over smb). 2. Import a folder from the smb share into Rhythmbox / Exaile which contains a lot of music (the one tested here is over 200GB) 3. Wait. 4. Somewhere along the way the smb share will silently unmount and the import process will stop. The only trace of what happened will be visible via dmesg gvfsd-smb[1873]: segfault at 14 ip 080583f5 sp bfbe2460 error 4 in gvfsd-smb[8048000+2] or Apport. This crash occurs on my setup somewhere between 3GB and 20GB music imported. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 177929] Re: Should autodetect filename character encoding in zip files
Confirming bug in Oneric (11.10) (x64) for cyrillic (Win 1251) filenames. Reinstallation of rar as stated in post #46 by Artem fixes the issues. In terminal: sudo apt-get remove rar sudo apt-get remove --purge unrar sudo apt-get install unrar -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to file-roller in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/177929 Title: Should autodetect filename character encoding in zip files Status in File Roller: Confirmed Status in “file-roller” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Status in “xarchiver” package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Bug description: Binary package hint: file-roller Many compressed file such as zip don't specify filename encoding. But file-roller read every file as UTF-8, so it sometimes makes encoding problem. I think may be, you could think that it's not a big problem or it's not a bug or we don't need those feature. If you deal with only English it's not a problem at all. But it's a big problem for East Asian people such as Chinese, Japanese and Korean. Because zip file is still popular. And many people compress zip file in Windows, and share the zip files. Windows don't use UTF-8. Many CJK people want to uncompress these zip files. There are some way to solve this problem (by another software). But all are too complex to Ubuntu newbies. I wish file-roller support encoding select function.
