[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.

2020-05-12 Thread Taras
Kim,

First try this:

Install gnome-tweak-tool (should pull in gnome-tweaks)

Than in the gui:

Tweak tool >> Typing >> Modifiers of input sources switch >> Alt shift.

First time, I was able to bypass this bug by installing Unity desktop
(planned on it anyway), and configuring the shortcut there. The settings
are transferred to gnome shell settings.

how-to install unity has been detailed here:
https://linuxconfig.org/ubuntu-20-04-unity-desktop

In case you want to keep it:
https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/testing-unity-session-in-focal-fossa-20-04/13692

And how to remove it:
https://www.makeuseof.com/tag/remove-unity-desktop-ubuntu/

But my guess is that in gnome shell it was disabled intentionally as it breaks
other shortcuts:
https://askubuntu.com/questions/1075604/disabling-altshift-to-switch-keyboard-layouts-in-ubuntu-18-04
https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/68/gnome-3-22-disable-altshift-keyboard-layout-switching

There are also some suggestions for command line config, but I did not try this:
https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/316998/how-to-change-keyboard-layout-in-gnome-3-from-command-line

Bug description:
  [Impact]

Can't set keyboard layout change to Ctrl+Shift, Caps Lock, Alt+Shift,
etc. Shift, Caps Lock keys are just ignored in settings.

  [Test Case]

  - open gnome-control-center's text input settings
  - click on the "next layout key" entry
  - try entering a combination of two modifier keys such as Ctrl+Shift
-> the UI should reflect the new keys

  - add at least two input sources through gnome-control-center's text entry
    settings
  - press and release Ctrl+Shift
-> the current input source should change

  [Regression Potential]

That UI was not working before, it should only be an improvement (some
key combos are not working as expected, that's another issue and
shouldn't be mixed with this one)

The input switching shortcut might capture other non-modifier
shortcuts, but users will need to consider this when choosing their
switching shortcut anyways. For users this bug affects, this
represents a working solution for a critical bug.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1699731] Re: Icons appear corrupted when dragged on the Desktop or in Nautilus

2017-09-21 Thread Taras Denysenko
** Description changed:

After upgrading to Ubuntu 17.04 I noticed that dragging an icon from Desktop
or from a Nautilus window now looks quite strange.
In both cases the image under cursor, which represents the icon being
dragged, has no transparency and includes a piece of the background, on which
the original icon is located, and the dragged icon itself appears to be
somewhat corrupted. I've attached 2 screenshots, which demonstrate the issue.

When searching for the solution for this issue, I found the following
question on askubuntu, which seems to describe the same problem:
  https://askubuntu.com/questions/906452/graphical-glitch-in-nautilus-
when-dragging-icons . Unfortunately, the question is unanswered and
there are no mentions of a bug report, so I decided to go ahead and
  submit one myself.

I am on a laptop running Ubuntu 17.04 with switchable graphics. NVidia
driver v.375.66 is installed. The problem reproduces regardless of which
graphics card is selected via nvidia-prime.

driver v.375.66 is installed. The problem reproduces regardless of
which graphics card is selected via nvidia-prime.

  Here's my output from `lspci -k | grep -EA3 'VGA|3D|Display'` command:

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1644007] Re: Intel HD Graphics 5500 Drivers Cap Resolution at 1366x768 and don't support video out for external displays

2016-11-23 Thread taras
Thanks for the catch Daniel; updated the description. It was the new
laptop with the Intel HD Graphics 5500 integrated card that resolution
was capped and video out wasn't working.

The old laptop has a Haswell-ULT Integrated Graphics Controller for which the
drivers work just fine. Amusingly, after putting the SSD back into the old one;
the HDMI port started working again. Maybe the slight jiggling from
reassembling the case fixed a connection to the port? I had tried multiple
cables, monitors and adapters previously, so the port was definitely dead prior.

Anyway, now that I'm back in the old laptop, I won't be able to test/reproduce
this.

Bug description:
  Hi @all,

I used the same USB audio device in all previous Ubuntu versions
(Focusrite Scarlet 2i2). It is supposed to be class compliant and
works an all distros flawless (even RPI2 and OSMC). After upgrading
from 15.10 to 16.04 it stopped to work: after start-up it does not
show up as an audio device at all (also not recognized by aplay -l). I
can workaround this by unplugging it and plugging it in again after
Ubuntu booted up (strangely 2 times unplug/re-plug). After 2nd time
plugging it in again it shows up and works great without any further
  issues until next restart.

Maybe worth to note that I recognized today that fwupd uses
continuously 100% CPU load, so I just killed it today. My Hardware
(Main-board/CPU) is a bit older (Intel E8400), so could probably be
  some compatibility issue...

  regards,
  Tobias

I don't really use scanner, so I decided to simply remove buggy

sudo apt-get remove sane-utils
sudo apt-get remove colord

  Google authentication error in empathy

Status in “empathy” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Basically empathy can authenticate google account. But after couple of
days when i start empathy, it can't authenticate google account. Other
application which use google account are working fine. Off/On google
account doesn't solve this problem. What i need to do is remove the
account and add it again. And same things will happen after couple of
  days. It's embarrassing.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1041665] Re: gnome-disk-utility is missing palimpsest (renamed to gnome-disks)

2014-06-06 Thread Taras Chernenko
affected me too. I'm on xubuntu 14.04, installed the utility from Ubuntu
Software Manager (USM), it never appeared in Menu. So i tried it from
Terminal like it's named in USM ('gnome-disk-utility), but no success.
So i was obliged to search in Synaptic Package Manager (which wasn't
installed by default too) where the files are situated. That's a big
time waste for nothing. Ubuntu is a good OS but u need to add a little
much formality, so end user can see how to launch installed program,
even if it's installed from USM!

Bug description:
The description of the gnome-disk-utility package still says:
palimpsest (from the gnome-disk-utility project) is a tool to manage
disk drives and media, but palimpsest has been renamed to gnome-disks
(and made much less intuitive, and harder to read because it does
things in places like use white text on light grey - is that gnome3
  removing features yet again?).

As an aside, the unity dash also doesn't find 'disk utility', only
  'disks'.

  Hi,

  I found a bug in Ubuntu 14.04 !

I tried to pair a bluetooth stereo headset (A2DP compatible). The
pairing process goes well, but after that I can't select it on the
  audio preferences.

When I select it, it only shows the last selected item options and don't do
anything. (he should switch to the headset output).
I must mention that it worked very well on Ubuntu 12.04.

This bug can be in the bluetooth stack or in unity-control-center or
maybe pulseaudio. I actually have no idea.

Bug description:
  === gnome-control-center ===

Impact: the UI to change the layout switching keys doesn't work

  Test case:
  - open gnome-control-center's text input settings
  - click on the next layout key entry
  - try entering a key combinaison (e.g ctrl-space)
  - the UI should reflect the new keys

Regression potential: that UI was not working before, it should only
be an improvement (some key combos are not working as expected, that's
another issue and shouldn't be mixed with this one)

  === gnome-settings-daemon ===

Impact: attempting to change keyboard layouts using only modifier keys
  doesn't work

  Test case:
  - add at least two input sources through gnome-control-center's text entry
settings
  - use gsettings to set the input switching shortcut to ctrl+left shift:
gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.wm.keybindings switch-input-source
['PrimaryShift_L']
  - press and release ctrl+left shift
  - the current input source should change

Regression potential: The input switching shortcut might capture other
non-modifier shortcuts, but users will need to consider this when
choosing their switching shortcut anyways. For users this bug affects,
this represents a working solution for a critical bug.

  --

Can't set keyboard layout change to ctrl+shift, Caps Lock, alt+shift
etc. Shift, CapsLock keys are just ignored in settings. Also the
default shortcut was set to Super+Space that is inconveniently,
because Dash is opening when you swich your keyboard layout.

2013-04-19 22:35:50 MSK DETAIL: Failed system call was shmget(key=5432001,
size=41263104, 03600).
2013-04-19 22:35:50 MSK HINT: This error usually means that PostgreSQL's
request for a shared memory segment exceeded your kernel's SHMMAX parameter.
You can either reduce the request size or reconfigure the kernel with larger
SHMMAX. To reduce the request size (currently 41263104 bytes), reduce
PostgreSQL's shared memory usage, perhaps by reducing shared_buffers or
max_connections.
If the request size is already small, it's possible that it is less
than your kernel's SHMMIN parameter, in which case raising the request size or
reconfiguring SHMMIN is called for.
The PostgreSQL documentation contains more information about shared
memory configuration.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 451841] Re: gvfsd-smb crashed with SIGSEGV in g_simple_async_result_complete()

--
You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop

Title:
gvfsd-smb crashed with SIGSEGV in g_simple_async_result_complete()

Status in “gvfs” package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: gvfs

This bug exists in Jaunty and the steps to reproduce are the same as
for Karmic. Fortunately it is a tad more stable in Karmic but it gvfs-
smb crashed eventually today. Reproduce as follows:

  0. Mount a remote smb share via Nautilus.
  1. Open Rhythmbox / Exaile / (maybe other software that can generate a lot of
traffic over smb).
  2. Import a folder from the smb share into Rhythmbox / Exaile which contains
a lot of music (the one tested here is over 200GB)
  3. Wait.
  4. Somewhere along the way the smb share will silently unmount and the import
process will stop. The only trace of what happened will be visible via dmesg
gvfsd-smb[1873]: segfault at 14 ip 080583f5 sp bfbe2460 error 4 in
gvfsd-smb[8048000+2] or Apport.

This crash occurs on my setup somewhere between 3GB and 20GB music
  imported.

I am sure that this bug is not specifically related with music files
and importing in players but it is a generic bug in gvfs-smb which is
triggered after some amount of data is transferred by it.

I typed Y and lost firefox icon, I typed firefox in terminal and it
  suggested to install firefox

then I installed firefox but flashplugin had to be removed.

so there is not way to install one without removing the other, Gnash

Status in “firefox” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:

I attempted to install adobe flash player but it removes firefox-global menu

Need to get 9,536 B of archives.
After this operation, 39.2 MB disk space will be freed.
Do you want to continue [Y/n]?

I typed Y and lost firefox icon, I typed firefox in terminal and it
  suggested to install firefox

then I installed firefox but flashplugin had to be removed.

so there is not way to install one without removing the other, Gnash
is working really badly on youtube crash very often, on other sites is
not working at all: flash buttons or pop up windows do not work, any
  sugestion?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 177929] Re: Should autodetect filename character encoding in zip files

2012-01-25 Thread Taras
Confirming bug in Oneric (11.10) (x64) for cyrillic (Win 1251)
filenames.

Reinstallation of rar as stated in post #46 by Artem fixes the issues.

In terminal:
sudo apt-get remove rar
sudo apt-get remove --purge unrar
sudo apt-get install unrar

Title:
Should autodetect filename character encoding in zip files

Status in File Roller:
  Confirmed
Status in “file-roller” package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged
Status in “xarchiver” package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: file-roller

Many compressed file such as zip don't specify filename encoding. But
file-roller read every file as UTF-8, so it sometimes makes encoding
  problem.

I think may be, you could think that it's not a big problem or it's
not a bug or we don't need those feature. If you deal with only
English it's not a problem at all. But it's a big problem for East
Asian people such as Chinese, Japanese and Korean. Because zip file is
still popular. And many people compress zip file in Windows, and share
the zip files. Windows don't use UTF-8.

Many CJK people want to uncompress these zip files. There are some way
to solve this problem (by another software). But all are too complex
to Ubuntu newbies. I wish file-roller support encoding select
  function.
