It's a mystery to me why Assignee wasn't set and bug not marked Fixed when it really looks fixed when tested. I do it now. Thanks Caolan! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to libreoffice in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1034999 Title: libreoffice-calc very slow to open/save documents with large cell contents Status in LibreOffice: Fix Released Status in libreoffice package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Libreoffice-calc 3.6 takes a long time (30sec to minutes) to open/save spreadsheets containing cells with a lot of content. This is a regression from libreoffice 3.5 in 12.04 (tested with 1:3.5.4-0ubuntu1) To reproduce: 1) Open the attached spreadsheet, which contains 1 cell with ~4k characters in it Expected results: Spreadsheet opens quickly (<2sec on my 2.4Ghz Core2Duo w/ SSD) Actual results: Libreoffice splash screen shows, libreoffice window is displayed as a gray rectangle with no content, and libreoffice window then becomes unresponsive. CPU usage is at 100% on one core. The system stays in this state for ~30sec. The document eventually opens and libreoffice functions normally. Saving documents with lots of data in a cell takes just as long as opening/reading those documents, with similar symptoms - libreoffice becomes unresponsive, one CPU core is at full utilization, etc. The amount of text in the cell is directly correlated to the length of time required to open/save the doc. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1748895]
Oh, not really well in Ubuntu 22.04. Lo has sensible-lomua set in Email (don't know what's that, probably ends with xdg-email anyway) but behaves like when empty, invoking default mail which I set to be claws-mail. Also program window invoked, not composer window. xdg-email is 1.1.3-4.1. So that would be the same, not resolved. Another new problem: if I set Email to /usr/bin/claws-mail, I get a message "LO unable to find a working mail configuration". claws-mail is version 4.0 If system has no default email client, sending with LO doesn't give any warning. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1803604]
I tested sending with claws-email now, previously I used mutt, and all is working, composer window is invoked and file is attached. I understood this bug was about claws-email but if not it needs a precision. "xdg-email is a command line tool for sending mail using the user's preferred e-mail composer" so why would it be used in Tools/Options/Internet/Email I don't know. My understanding is that it's working implicitly, if you don't set Email than xdg-email is used to invoke some (from Default/Preferred Applications). In my case, when I deleted claws-email path from Email and not from the system, it used mutt. But I got no screen prompts for the setting of Tools-Options-Internet-Email? Please paste screenshot here. Mail from mutt was composed and sent but without attachment. I then changed system mail to claws-email and xdg-email invoked claws-email but without composer window. So for me, bug is that xdg-email doesn't attach file or compose mail, seen when when having Email empty ie. relying on xdg-email. Mine is version 1.1.2 from Ubuntu 18.04. But it should be that Ubuntu bug. And there "xdg-utils 1.1.3-4.1ubuntu1.22.04.1 seems to have fixed this". (1) seems Ubuntu bug. (2) I wrote my view on xdg-utils (3) I asked you to clarify, to have all here, but that would be another issue anyway. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to libreoffice in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1803604 Title: [upstream] "Send -> Document as e-mail" in Writer / Calc does not work Status in LibreOffice: Incomplete Status in libreoffice package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Description: Linux Mint 18.3 Sylvia Release: 18.3 LO: Version: 6.1.3.2 Build-ID: 1:6.1.3~rc2-0ubuntu0.16.04.1 In writer I have an open document. But it should be that Ubuntu bug. And there "xdg-utils 1.1.3-4.1ubuntu1.22.04.1 seems to have fixed this". (1) seems Ubuntu bug. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1803604]
I am not a corporate user, but I prefer stable packages, as I have hit the occasional bug in the "fresh" version. Therefore, I am using LibreOffice 5.3 at the moment. There steps are still valid in LO 7.1+ but bug is essentially resolved. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1875204] Re: .desktop files inside folders on the Desktop cannot be launched
If you're curious, here's the contents of gedit.desktop: [Desktop Entry] Type=Application Terminal=false Name=GEDIT Exec=/usr/bin/gedit Note that when gedit.desktop is located in ~/Desktop, the icon just says "GEDIT" (which is what the "Name" field says above). However, when it's located in ~/Desktop/TEST, it's treated like a normal file and is labeled "gedit.desktop". I just don't understand how Ubuntu could be missing basic GUI features that literally every other operating system has had for decades. What is so controversial about putting desktop icons in folders? There so many things that I can't do with the Desktop: 1) I can't drag/drop files from the desktop to/from other folders. Did you notice that I had use the Copy and Paste context menus to copy the file to the TEST folder? 2) I can't drag/drop files to applications in the launcher. 3) I can't drag/drop files from the Desktop to any open application. The root cause for all these problems is that the Desktop is not treated like any other Nautilus folder. It's its own special, dysfunctional thing. This is in contrast to every other GUI out there. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1875204 Title: .desktop files inside folders on the Desktop cannot be launched Status in nautilus package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: I can create a folder on the desktop (right click -> New Folder) and if I move a .desktop file into that folder, I can no longer launch the program. I have installed the en-us language pack in Firefox, and I've tried many of the "fixes" I found on the Internet, but this problem remains for me. For instance, "honor" is flagged but "honour" is not flagged. The "English (US) Language Pack" add-on is installed. One interesting observation: when I go under Preferences->Language, I see that en-us is selected as the default. When I click on Set Alternatives, but the drop-down also shows en-gb and en-ca. I can click on Canada and UK and remove them, and they show as removed. However, after I restart, those two languages come back. So there appears to be no way to actually remove those languages. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to language-selector in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1026869 Title: Firefox accepts dictionaries and spell check entries from every which spell check backend, leaving problems with defaults and the language selector enables this behavior Status in Mozilla Firefox: New Status in Hunspell: New Status in myspell: New Status in firefox package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in language-selector package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: I've been searching for the solution to this bug for a long time. As for improvement, that's welcome. As for bug, I don't understand it. To me it looks like new slide is created at the end. However, this works only as expected while the slides pane actually has empty space at the bottom. As soon as I have created a few slides, the slides pane is completely filled, and two things happen: (1) Improvement: It is very hard to double click on the thin white space at the bottom of the filled slides pane. This could be improved by always letting a few pixels at the bottom to click on. (2) Bug: You can actually manage to double click there and this creates a new slide. However, this new slide is not filed at the end of slides (as it should) but appears at a strange location somewhere in the middle of slides. This is definitely wrong. I will describe to cases: (a) using an existing database with Base and (b) trying to create a new database. (a) using an existing database. Open LO, choose Database. It opens the Window 'guided creation database'. I choose 'open existing database' , then Open, then search one of the existing databases with the extention odb. The database opens with a grey screen. When I try to move to 'tables', I get an error message, stating that it is impossible to create a connection to the database and that it is impossible to find a Java installation with the advice: verify your installation (see attachment 1, error message in Italian). When clicking on the button 'more' (più) one gets two new error messages. The first one repeats the general message that it is impossible to establish a connection (see attachment 2, message Italian), the second one repeats the message that no Java installation has been found but adds 'Stato SQL: HY000' (see attachment 3). No tables are shown. One can see queries, forms and reports created before, but of course one cannot open these items, since they cannot connect to the data in the table(s). (b) creating a new database. Open LO, choose the button Database. It opens the window 'guided creation database'. I choose 'create a new database. Push the button 'avanti' (next) then I confirm the default choices, register the database and open the database in order to modify. I can now give a name to the database and save it. Then the database opens, immediately showing an error message, which is exactly the same as the first message shown in (a) with exactly the same underlying messages. These three messages are her included as attachments 4, 5 and 6. I wonder whether other users have the same problem. I would like to know whether there are work-arounds available (e.g.installing 'real' Java) and whether it would be better to downgrade to Ubuntu 12.04 LTS which was really stable and satisfactory. Quantal has made LibreOffice almost completely unreliable for professional use. In order be able to continue to use my databases I need to use another computer with Windows XP [ :-(( ] with LibreOffice 3.5.6.2 ( I don't upgrade the LO package because I don't want to run the risk of not being able to open my databases on any platform anymore). The windows computer I referred to has a Ubuntu 12.10 dual boot version installed alongside. This Ubuntu installation gives exactly the same problems, for which I think that more users could be affected by this bug. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1103420]
There are many bug reports for images in .docx. I move here Bug 52226 from MAB 4.0. I'd like also to add Bug 43641 - Image in .docx file not shown reported in 2011. Some may be duplicate, but hopefully this will at least be resolved. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to libreoffice in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1103420 Title: LibreOffice Base can’t find Java installation—does not work Status in LibreOffice Productivity Suite: Confirmed Status in “libreoffice” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Since I work with Ubuntu 12.10 I have serious problems with LibreOffice. I already reported bugs regarding the menu line and regarding the use of files with smb. This one is the most critical though. It regards the Database app of LO (Base).
