This is already specified in the official Software center specification
(the requested subcategories differ a bit) [1], but implementing it is
blocked on bug #57418.

Title:
Sound and Video category in Ubuntu Software Center (USC) should have
subcategories
Status in “software-center” package in Ubuntu:
Confirmed
Bug description:
The category Sound Video is one of the richest categories in the software
centre / center, but it is not divided in subcategories, and thus lists in the
same page:
- video playback software
- video editing software
- audio playback software
- audio editing software (manipulation, conversion)
- audio production software (synthesis, effects...)
- multimedia playback software
- burning and image creation software
- audio taggers
- screencast software
- codecs
- subtitle software
- accessories
- DJ and VJ tools
- Text To Speech (TTS) software
etc.
This makes it difficult to find the software one is looking for.
There must be a way to create a few sub-categories to make app search
easier in USC.
