[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1015096] Re: quantal network-manager fails to connect WPA network

2012-06-25 Thread jerrylamos
Regression. Precise connects to wireless WPA on boot.

Quanmtal Disconnects instead!

Edit connection, wireless security takes 45 seconds for menu to appear.

Everything was there O.K., says connect automatically as it was, close
mentu.

Still not connected.

Systems Settings network wireless does not even display the network even
though edit shows it.

Finally after about 5 minutes of trying to get somewhere connects.

Precise Pangolin connected right away??

Any ideas how to get enable wireless to enable wireless? Any idea
how to get connect automatically to connect automatically like
Precise does?

Thanks for any ideas.

Title:
quantal network-manager fails to connect WPA network

Status in “network-manager” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  With kernel 3.4.0-5 network-manager WPA wireless, network-manager
menus very difficult to activate, drop down selection shaded out for a
long long time, after many many selection clicks. Then it finally
  after a delay will connect.

Next tme I boot, and network-manger disconnects. Doesn't connect to
the WPA even though everything is all set up.

Then after several tries to even get the full network manager menu to
display connect to hidden wireless network, the connect to hidden
wireless network menu is then mostly greyed out. Does not respond to
mouse or arrow keys. Many attmpts to get selection or tab to work,
finally does, then does not connect.

Repeat connect to hjidden wireless network again and again finally
after a long delay connects. Whew. On every boot.

I have a notebook upgraded to quantal except the kernel is 3.2.0-24.
Sometimes connects to WPA network right away, but at least network
manager menu selects first time, selecting connect to hidden
wireless works right away, the selections and mouse clicks actually
work, and it connects right away.

Any way to get connect to hidden network to be remembered on next
  boot with 3.4.0-5?

Any way to get connect to hidden network menu choices to come up
activated the first time and then when the only network is selected,
to actually connect? Wireless Security tab click on it many many
times with delay may or may not come up.

Intel Corporation Centrino Wireless-N 1000, Acer Aspire 1 netbook
Quantal running as expected for Alpha 1 otherwise.

  Thanks for any suggestions.

Of course, ubuntu-bug can't report if network isn't up, so I did this
ubuntu-bug after it -finally- got running.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1015096] Re: quantal network-manager fails to connect WPA network

2012-06-25 Thread jerrylamos
25 June daily build install still much thrash to get wireless WPA
running. Live, select network applet wireless security and it does.
Installed, select network applet wireless security and it does not .
Just nothing. After a minute or more it might show the menu so I can
set WPA and password.

Still does not automatically connect.

Do System Settings Network and it does not even show the network name
which was set in the edit above a while ago.

Switch back and forth between network applet and network settings
eventually connects.

Still only showing the short network applet 4 item menu instead of the
long 12 item menu with connect to hidden network although that choice
hasn't been any better.

At 1.66 gHz that's billions and billions of instruction times - what on
earth is the network manager doing? Any way to trace?

Any suggestions?

Thanks, Jerry

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1015096] Re: quantal network-manager fails to connect WPA network

2012-06-23 Thread jerrylamos
22 June Quantal daily build - connect automatically takes a good 5 minutes -
at 1.66 GHz that's billions and billions of instructions doing what? to
connect to wireless WPA.
Systems Settings Network does not show network name and pull down menu does
not show network name even though selecting applet shows network name,
selecting wireless security very sluggish and does not allow selecting password
which it has stored already from yesterday.

Finally after 5 minutes the connection wakes up - why don't Enable
Wireless and Connect Automatically work??

Also, pull down menu at the network applet is very short and does not
show connect to hidden network, 4 lines or so. After it came up then
the full 12 line menu appears showing connect to hidden network.

How do I get the network applet to display connect to hidden wireless
network? It's got Enable Wireless checked and has the name of the
network and the password, why doesn't it do it?

Thanks much for any suggestions.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1015096] Re: quantal network-manager fails to connect WPA network

2012-06-22 Thread jerrylamos
22 June i386 build still same problems - very difficult to get wireless
going, using edit connections and Systems Settings Network and Connect
to Hidden Wireless Network. Quantal has all the info, the network name,
the password but I have to go round and round until it finally connects
with the settings it had all along.

Any ideas?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1015096] Re: quantal network-manager fails to connect WPA network

2012-06-20 Thread jerrylamos
Today's 20 June update same problem.

1. Does not connect to wireless WPA on boot.

2. Select Hidden Wireless Network choices unresponsive, all greyed out.

3. Exactly as if it is waiting for sudo

4. Do something else on terminal that requires sudo, example sudo
aptitude update.

5. Then the Hidden Wireless Network wakes up, after a couple tries,
connects.

How do I start the network-manager Hidden Wireless Network with the
sudo command instead of a mouse selection?

Thanks, Jerry

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1015096] Re: quantal network-manager fails to connect WPA network

2012-06-19 Thread jerrylamos
First problem (bug) is that the network-manager disconnectes on boot
even though it has the network name, security type, and password.
Enable network and enable wireless are both checked and should connect
instead of disconnecting.

Second problem (bug) is on selecting Connect to hidden wireless
network all the selections are greyed out and won't respond to mouse,
down errow, space bar, you name it.

On my notebook with kernel 3.2.0-24 it asks for userpassword at this
point, I assume quantal 3.4.0-5 network-manager is waiting for password
but never did pop up the password menu and ask.

After some time of trying, finally the selections work, all filled out
and ready to go. Push enter and menu completes.

Some time later, sluggish, finally connects like it should have at boot.

At 1.66 GHz the network manager must be using up billions of
instructions doing what?

Any suggestions/try this/try that etc. would be appreciated.

Jerry

Title:
quantal network-manager fails to connect WPA network

Status in “network-manager” package in Ubuntu:
  New
