[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1042409] Re: Install Updates button in Details panel leads to redundant check for updates
This button is now labeled "Software Updates" so isn't confusing anymore. ** Changed in: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Fix Released -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1042409 Title: Install Updates button in Details panel leads to redundant check for updates Status in gnome-control-center package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in update-manager package in Ubuntu: Invalid Bug description: When I open the Details settings panel, I can click the Install Updates button on the bottom right when updates are available. When I click that button, Update Manager opens and (as is the default behaviour) begins checking for updates. This does not fit nicely with the label on the button, and the activity is redundant: the system already checks for updates when the Details panel is opened, and the button says "Checking for Updates" while that happens. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1042409] Re: Install Updates button in Details panel leads to redundant check for updates
In this context, the Install Updates button is a non-sequitur. Please hide/remove it altogether. (If it notified you only of new Ubuntu versions, and was immediately below the Ubuntu version number, then it might make sense.) ** Changed in: update-manager (Ubuntu) Status: New = Invalid ** Changed in: update-manager (Ubuntu) Assignee: Matthew Paul Thomas (mpt) = (unassigned) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1042409 Title: Install Updates button in Details panel leads to redundant check for updates Status in “gnome-control-center” package in Ubuntu: New Status in “update-manager” package in Ubuntu: Invalid Bug description: When I open the Details settings panel, I can click the Install Updates button on the bottom right when updates are available. Thank you for your bug report, do you have any suggestion on what it should do instead? just drop that button, feature? ** Changed in: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Low ** Changed in: update-manager (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) = Matthew Paul Thomas (mpt) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1042409 Title: Install Updates button in Details panel leads to redundant check for updates Status in “gnome-control-center” package in Ubuntu: New Status in “update-manager” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: When I open the Details settings panel, I can click the Install Updates button on the bottom right when updates are available. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1042409] Re: Install Updates button in Details panel leads to redundant check for updates
Hey Matthew, do you have any opinion on that? I'm not Matthew, of course, but I wonder if the auto-update could kick in only if it's been 5 minutes since the last check? :) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1042409 Title: Install Updates button in Details panel leads to redundant check for updates Status in “gnome-control-center” package in Ubuntu: New Status in “update-manager” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: When I open the Details settings panel, I can click the Install Updates button on the bottom right when updates are available.
