[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1042409] Re: Install Updates button in Details panel leads to redundant check for updates

2020-02-02 Thread Robert Ancell
This button is now labeled "Software Updates" so isn't confusing
anymore.

Title:
Install Updates button in Details panel leads to redundant check for
  updates

Status in gnome-control-center package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in update-manager package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
When I open the Details settings panel, I can click the Install
Updates button on the bottom right when updates are available. When I
click that button, Update Manager opens and (as is the default
behaviour) begins checking for updates. This does not fit nicely with
the label on the button, and the activity is redundant: the system
already checks for updates when the Details panel is opened, and the
button says "Checking for Updates" while that happens.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1042409] Re: Install Updates button in Details panel leads to redundant check for updates

2012-08-28 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
In this context, the Install Updates button is a non-sequitur. Please
hide/remove it altogether.

(If it notified you only of new Ubuntu versions, and was immediately
below the Ubuntu version number, then it might make sense.)

Hey Matthew, do you have any opinion on that? Seems to be a side effect
of the software updater auto-index-update-on-start change that
happened in quantal

I'm not Matthew, of course, but I wonder if the auto-update could kick
in only if it's been 5 minutes since the last check? :)
