[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1044549] Re: The "Access Prompt" randomly pop up!
This 8-years problem still exists on 20.04 (!) As commented in #4 back in 2012, the particular focus-mode triggers crazy situations. Ex: autologin + autostart app's and/or auto-move windows (dedicated desktop per window) After GDM (auto)login, the "gcr-prompter" can not be focused or even worst: not even visible. But still holds a TOTAL focus (grabbing all inputs). That means neither the popup nor the session can be closed, Gnome-shell can't be restarted, and the only possibility is to switch to tty, use `ps`, determinate the name of the process... what not even a workaround for a normal user. I think there is no reason that justify keeping a user from using "Alt-F2 / restart". About why this popup start in the first place is, IMHO, not a subject (I've 1 owncloud + 2 google accounts there and I can't tell why this come up) ... But *if* this popup arises it must not brick the whole session. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gcr in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1044549 Title: The "Access Prompt" randomly pop up! [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1044549] Re: The "Access Prompt" randomly pop up!
If the prompt is caused by a google online account with dual factor authentication and you want to maintain the goa functionality, you can set an App Password in your google account settings and enter it at the prompt. This avoids having to delete the accounts.conf file. This solution solved my issue on Linux Mint 17.3; my Evolution is set up to use the gnome online accounts for imap functionality. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gcr in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1044549 Title: The "Access Prompt" randomly pop up! [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1044549] Re: The Access Prompt randomly pop up!
The accounts.conf file is also used by the new Ubuntu online accounts configuration. The problem seems to be that after an upgrade the old entry from the original Gnome online accounts application is left. The new online accounts utility adds entries after the previous one which is the one causing the problem. This is the old entry in my case: [Account account_1388648527] Provider=google Identity=x...@gmail.com PresentationIdentity=x...@gmail.com MailEnabled=true CalendarEnabled=true ContactsEnabled=true ChatEnabled=true DocumentsEnabled=true Just editing the accounts.conf file and removing just this entry solved the problem. If you remove the file you will have to rerun the new online accounts application in order to recreate your new configuration. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gcr in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1044549 Title: The Access Prompt randomly pop up!
