[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1080111] Re: VNC (vino) doesn't operate until a particular user is logged in
** No longer affects: unity ** No longer affects: unity (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu. Matching subscriptions: dp-unity https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1080111 Title: VNC (vino) doesn't operate until a particular user is logged in Status in Light Display Manager: Invalid Bug description: Vino doesn't start until a particular user is logged in, and that user has "desktop sharing" enabled. Consequently, unless "auto log-in" is set for a user, and "desktop sharing" is enabled for that user, there is no way to use VNC (vinagre) to log-in to a remote Ubuntu system. Vino should be operable at the log-in phase (lightdm) to enable the very basic functionality of remote access to a Ubuntu desktop system. My suggestion is to have a way to start vino at the point where lightdm is started. Even if I had to restart vinagre after logging in via lightdm, at least it would be possible to remotely access the desktop environment. Alternatively, I have submitted a bug report on the fact that "auto log-in" only functions on initial bootstrap - it doesn't function after log-out. lsb_release -rd Description: Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS Release: 12.04 (However, this problem has been present for several releases.)
