  As the summary says. From time to time Network-manager breaks and
  after that clicking Edit Connections or Connection Information
  does nothing and More Networks is empty even though there are
  several WIFI access points in the area. Rebooting the machine is a
  workaround for this issue.

Just wanted to add that I am using a Lenovo w520 and this bug appeared
after I upgraded from 11.10 to 12.04.

I also found another work around. I can go to All Settings - Network
(or just Network from the Unity Menu) and change the wifi network from
there. I can also stop and start the wifi from there.

However the network menu from the top right does pretty much nothing
once this bug appears. So it appears to be a bug related more to the GUI
(the wifi menu) than the actual wireless connections.

Even changing the current Wifi connection is impossible, when this
problem occurs. In addition to rebooting a simple logout and login seems
to be enough to temporarily fix the issue.
