Probably not an issue any longer given the age of that bug. Would you
mind confirming this is fixed in the most recent chromium release?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1173234] Re: Chromium's content doesn't respect z order, obscuring everything else

2013-10-22 Thread Aren Cambre
See attached image. You'll see that the Chromium window is showing a
distorted view of the www.cnn.com home page even though I have a
specific article pulled up. To the right are Mines and gedit. I clicked
on Mines and then gedit right before I took this screen shot to ensure
that they should have been above Chromium in the z-order. See how gedit
is on top of Chromium except for Chromium's content area?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1173234] Re: Chromium's content doesn't respect z order, obscuring everything else

2013-10-21 Thread Aren Cambre
Just did a clean install of Ubuntu 13.10. First thing I did was install
VirtualBox Guest Extensions, then I installed Chromium. Same problem:
the browser appears to stop responding because whatever is in the
browser window gets stuck in time and then occupies the top visibility
above all over apps. So if I try to move another app in front of
Chromium, I still see the Chromium content area that's stuck from
several minutes ago.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1173234] Re: Chromium's content doesn't respect z order, obscuring everything else

2013-10-21 Thread Chad Miller
It doesn't look like Chromium is the culprit here. Instead of running
chromium only, shrink chromium to half width and move it to the left.
Run a game like Mine Sweeper and move it beside chromium's right. Then,
run the same program as you were -- gedit, was it?

It looks to me like what's in front is not repainting itself, and if
there's nothing painted, then the most recent image is still there.

2013-04-30 Thread Aren Cambre
Curiously, I just upgraded my workhorse Xubuntu VM from 12.10 to 13.04,
and that one does not have this z-order problem with Chromium. So far, I
can only reproduce on new instances.

Also, I should have stated this earlier, but in addition to Chromium, I
also installed the VirtualBox Guest Additions using VirtualBox's
included ISO. I am running VirtualBox 4.2.12, the latest release as of
today.

2013-04-26 Thread Chad Miller
I'm having trouble figuring out what's happening here.

Will you please run something in a terminal. It may ask for your
password. Within 30 seconds, reproduce the error and then click in the
intersecting area of the two windows -- just below the tab in gedit in
your screenshot.

$ which x11-utils || sudo apt-get -y install x11-utils; sleep 30; xprop
|grep NAME

Paste the results here, please.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1173234] Re: Chromium's content doesn't respect z order, obscuring everything else

2013-04-26 Thread Aren Cambre
The attached image shows what happens after the password screen displays
if it has been idle too long: the Chromium window still stays active and
on top, albeit unresponsive. While the Chrome Web Store tab is selected,
Chromium is showing the contents of the background tab named Extensions
(opened to chrome://extensions).

Chromium's connection with reality is so bad that even if you flip
between the tabs, it won't redraw the Chrome Web Store tab. However, if
I hover over the tab, I can see the mouse cursor change to the hand
pointer when I am over where a clickable thing would be, and the URL
does change as I click on things. This is different than what was
reported earlier, where it would draw correctly but not respond to
clicks.

Hrm. so, it appears as though gedit is front of chromium, according to
X.

However, there could be a problem with direct rendering that bypasses X
protocol. Please paste /var/log/Xorg.0.log too.
