Bug description:
  Ubuntu 13.04 64 bit.
  Lenovo E430 laptop.

My laptop will lock up at random times. When it locks up, there is no
mouse movement, no time change with the clock, just... nothing. The
only option is to hold the power button to force it off and restart.
This happens at any given time, it doesn't matter what I'm doing.
There are times it happens while web browsing. The other night I fell
asleep and woke up 1.5 hours later to my laptop still looking at me. I
thought, it should have suspended by now. Nope, it was hard locked.
The time on the clock confirmed it: 8:18 PM on the Lenovo when it was
about 10:00 PM. When I've experienced it, I've never been pushing the
system hard. It's always been under more light duty tasks. When this
has happened I have not had a 2nd monitor plugged in.

While I don't have a recent syslog (unless ubuntu-bug picked it up
when I filed), I did notice one entry in my syslog that was similar
each time I powered the system back up. It was the only thing that
looked somewhat off. It's this line here:

  May 24 21:45:28 JS-UbuE430 signond[2949]:
../../../../src/signond/signondaemon.cpp 360 init Failed to SUID root.
Secure storage will not be available.

For what it's worth, I spoke to another user who said they were having
100% identical issues. I do believe they are on a Dell system, not a
Lenovo system like I am, however our graphics card came up identical
  when we both ran lspci:

Core Processor Family Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 09)

2014-04-08 Thread JaSauders
Sridhar, are you still having consistent issues as you had on 13.04? On
my laptop in particular, I have had no issues since the spawn of 13.10.
I've been running 14.04 beta for a few days and that too has been
problem free in terms of freezing.

I can't help but to wonder if the 3.8-3.9 series kernel was the problem.
I read similar reports with other distros using these kernels as well.
If I recall, I believe I even ran Fedora and had it hardlock using the
3.9 kernel (3.9.3 or something?).

At any rate, 3.10 and above seems to have helped. Just wanted to throw
in an update.
