[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1212134] Re: [CA0106 - CA0106, playback] fails after a while

2014-01-05 Thread john nunnington
My problem persists through an upgrade to 13.10 - I've just updated the
BIOS version on an ASUS M5A78L-M LX Plus to 1501 (dated 2013.11.28) and
Spotify ran happily for several hours without issues.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1212134] Re: [CA0106 - CA0106, playback] fails after a while

2014-01-05 Thread john nunnington
BIOS update seems to resolve this problem.

Doesn't alter the fact that actually tracking the change to fix this was
virtually impossible [no help] and only happens when I was trying to
update the BIOS to support AHCI

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1212134] Re: [CA0106 - CA0106, playback] fails after a while

2013-08-15 Thread john nunnington
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1202094 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1202094

I've logged out and logged back in. Speakers are unmuted and 106 sound
card is selected for output.

Start up Clementine, and play an old mp3 file that was sampled at 44100
(that was cut from a CD) - song plays as expected, PulseAudio doesn't
die.

Select a few more random songs...eventually sound stops.

From what I've read, pulseaudio does the conversion from 44100 to 48000
before it gets anywhere near the sound card. The same problem exists
regardless of which music player I'm ussing (Clementine, RhythmBox or
Amarok) so the issue would seem to be either with PulseAudio or Alsa.
Since its the PulseAudio daemon that dies, it leads to me to conclude
the issue is indeed with PulseAudio.

Title:
  [CA0106 - CA0106, playback] fails after a while

Status in “alsa-driver” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
sound stops working after an indeterminate period.

Sound is restored by either logging out and back in or 'pulseaudio
--start' and reselecting the output device in the 'Sound Settings' and
selecting [in my case Analogue Output, Ca0106 SoundBlaster' with mode
  of 5.1].

When the sound stops the 'Play sound Through' list is empty
