[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1218520] Re: gvfsd-mtp assert failure: *** Error in `/usr/lib/gvfs/gvfsd-mtp': free(): invalid pointer: 0x081bd1c8 ***
I found this bug by looking at the DuplicateOf field in the Apport dialog before I hit the 'Report' button. I can't say how reliable is apport's backtrace matching, but I remember noticing something about invalid free() in that report. I then tried and managed to reproduce a crash on eject, and now my /var/crash/_usr_lib_gvfs_gvfsd-mtp.1000.crash contains a report about a SIGSEGV in LIBMTP_Get_Storage(). This smells like a different bug, and the topmost stack frames are in libmtp.so.9, except for the very first one, which is in ??. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gvfs in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1218520 Title: gvfsd-mtp assert failure: *** Error in `/usr/lib/gvfs/gvfsd-mtp': free(): invalid pointer: 0x081bd1c8 *** Status in “gvfs” package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Bug description: Crash when i remove my Nexus 4 ProblemType: Crash DistroRelease: Ubuntu 13.10 Package: gvfs-backends 1.17.2-0ubuntu6 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.11.0-4.9-generic 3.11.0-rc7 Uname: Linux 3.11.0-4-generic i686 ApportVersion: 2.12.1-0ubuntu2 Architecture: i386 AssertionMessage: *** Error in `/usr/lib/gvfs/gvfsd-mtp': free(): invalid pointer: 0x081bd1c8 *** Date: Thu Aug 29 19:18:15 2013 ExecutablePath: /usr/lib/gvfs/gvfsd-mtp InstallationDate: Installed on 2013-08-28 (1 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 13.10 Saucy Salamander - Alpha i386 (20130828) MarkForUpload: True ProcCmdline: /usr/lib/gvfs/gvfsd-mtp --spawner :1.5 /org/gtk/gvfs/exec_spaw/10 ProcEnviron: SHELL=/bin/bash XDG_RUNTIME_DIR=set PATH=(custom, no user) LANGUAGE=it LANG=it_IT.UTF-8 Signal: 6 SourcePackage: gvfs StacktraceTop: __libc_message (do_abort=do_abort@entry=2, fmt=fmt@entry=0xb7332510 *** Error in `%s': %s: 0x%s ***\n) at ../sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/libc_fatal.c:199 malloc_printerr (action=optimized out, str=optimized out, ptr=0x81bd1c8) at malloc.c:4902 _int_free (av=0xb7373440 main_arena, p=0x81bd1c0, have_lock=0) at malloc.c:3758 g_free () from /lib/i386-linux-gnu/libglib-2.0.so.0 ?? There are many crash on eject bugs - the main issue is that the because the USB device is gone libmtp is left in an unpredictable state, so it's easy for things to blow up even as we try to exit as quickly as possible. Did you see the exact same backtrace? It might also match one of the other eject crashes that are filed. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gvfs in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1218520 Title: gvfsd-mtp assert failure: *** Error in `/usr/lib/gvfs/gvfsd-mtp': free(): invalid pointer: 0x081bd1c8 *** Status in “gvfs” package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Bug description: Crash when i remove my Nexus 4 ProblemType: Crash DistroRelease: Ubuntu 13.10 Package: gvfs-backends 1.17.2-0ubuntu6 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.11.0-4.9-generic 3.11.0-rc7 Uname: Linux 3.11.0-4-generic i686 ApportVersion: 2.12.1-0ubuntu2 Architecture: i386 AssertionMessage: *** Error in `/usr/lib/gvfs/gvfsd-mtp': free(): invalid pointer: 0x081bd1c8 *** Date: Thu Aug 29 19:18:15 2013 ExecutablePath: /usr/lib/gvfs/gvfsd-mtp InstallationDate: Installed on 2013-08-28 (1 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 13.10 Saucy Salamander - Alpha i386 (20130828) MarkForUpload: True ProcCmdline: /usr/lib/gvfs/gvfsd-mtp --spawner :1.5 /org/gtk/gvfs/exec_spaw/10 ProcEnviron: SHELL=/bin/bash XDG_RUNTIME_DIR=set PATH=(custom, no user) LANGUAGE=it LANG=it_IT.UTF-8 Signal: 6 SourcePackage: gvfs StacktraceTop: __libc_message (do_abort=do_abort@entry=2, fmt=fmt@entry=0xb7332510 *** Error in `%s': %s: 0x%s ***\n) at ../sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/libc_fatal.c:199 malloc_printerr (action=optimized out, str=optimized out, ptr=0x81bd1c8) at malloc.c:4902 _int_free (av=0xb7373440 main_arena, p=0x81bd1c0, have_lock=0) at malloc.c:3758 g_free () from /lib/i386-linux-gnu/libglib-2.0.so.0 ?? Assuming that the clean shutdown fix in 1.17.3 addressed this.
