I uploaded 2 lsmod outputs (I have 2 converters) one is a belkin, the other is Prolific Technology, Inc. I have only a Prolific converter which one can make working (at least with some printers) by the USB quirk settings. Seems that the Belkin does not work at all. Mine also behaves different. I get /dev/usb/lp* and NOT /dev/lp* and I can also print via parallel:/dev/usb/lp*. I also get the printer's device ID passed through for automatic driver selection. Please try the following: Boot Ubuntu, unplug your real USB printer (the HP Deskjet f2400) re-plug the USB-Parallel adapter. You should have a /dev/usb/lp0 now. Check via ls -l /dev/usb/lp* Create a print queue using the command lpadmin -p test -E -v parallel:/dev/usb/lp0 -P /etc/cups/ppd/texto.ppd (Use parallel:/dev/usb/lp1 if you have only a /dev/usb/lp1). further findings Installed ubuntu 13.10, updated everything, added usb to parallel dot matrix printer with text driver and all performs the same, no difference, the terminal command lp -d text -oraw test.txt prints once every time after usb cable reconnection then I connected my HP deskjet F2492 printer, it automaticalley appeared in printers, and it worked perfect, both print and scan. BUT, since then, no print at all to the usb to parallel dot matrix jobs stay forever in the text queue, even after cable reconnection. The next print job stays waiting in the queue with the message processing, forever, until the usb cable is unplugged.
