Title:
Limited data copy speeds USB hardisk

Status in nautilus package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
When trying to copy data via nautilus to my 1TB WDC WD10TPVT-00U4RT1
(01.01A01) hard disk using Ubuntu 14.04 64bit data copy speeds are
limited with huge delays inbetween copies. I smart tested the disk
fully on both Ubuntu 14.04 Windows 7 and with the Western digital tool
  it appears ok.

For example If i select a 23GB folder with a few files and copy it can
start copying get to 777mb and freeze for periods of more than an hour
before trying to start again. There appears to be disk activity in
periodic phases and only short amounts of data is transfered.

The application System load indicator application seems to show disk
I/O wait times gradually increase to 75% and above

Copying to the same hard disk under Windows 7 and Ubuntu 12.04.4 64bit
transfers normally and at a much higher speed

Please let me know if I can provied any other logs

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1318816] Re: Limited data copy speeds USB hardisk

2014-06-02 Thread Alex
turning on or enabling disk cache for this disk via the graphical disk
manager tool seemed to resolve the issue currious that it seems to write
normally with disk caching on but not disabled. I guess there is a fault
tranfering direct without first buffering it

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1318816] Re: Limited data copy speeds USB hardisk

2014-05-16 Thread Alex
It also appears when trying to use a seperate browser other than
naulitus and also trying to export a virtual machine from virtualbox
there are also noticeable wait times trying to write to disk that are
just affecting this model hard disk and only with Ubuntu 14.04. Ubuntu
12.04 operates normally
