** Description changed:

- Scolling and typing becomes painfully slow when an image is added in
- LibreOffice Writer. It becomes faster (not much) when the same image
- covers a smaller area.
+ At 100% zoom, I count about 5 seconds to scroll from first to second
+ page by holding the arrow-down key. CPU is not occupied by any other
+ program.
+
+ At 180% zoom, I count about 18 seconds to scroll from first to second
+ page by holding the arrow-down key.
+
+ At 180% zoom, a two-pages text-only document takes less than 2 seconds
+ to scroll from first to second page by holding the arrow-down key.
+
+ It becomes faster (not much) when the same image covers a smaller area.

From settings, I've tried to maximize the graphics memory, and to
enable/disable hardware acceleration and antialiasing, but it doesn't
  help.

The problem persists in LibreOffice 4.3.5-rc2 from ubuntu PPA.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1405084] Re: VERY slow when using images in Writer

2016-01-16 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
robegue, as per http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/product-
support/product/xps-13-9333/drivers/advanced an update to your
computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (A08). If you update to
this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it
change anything?

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't
have to create a new bug report.

Once the BIOS is updated, if the problem is still reproducible:
1) Please provide the output of the following terminal command (not perform an
apport-collect):
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date
2) Please make a comment specifically advising on if there was an improvement
or not.
3) Please mark this report Status New. If it's not reproducible, please mark
this as Invalid.

Thank you for your understanding.

apport information

** Tags added: kubuntu

** Description changed:

Scolling and typing becomes painfully slow when an image is added in
LibreOffice Writer. It becomes faster (not much) when the same image
  covers a smaller area.

From settings, I've tried to maximize the graphics memory, and to
enable/disable hardware acceleration and antialiasing, but it doesn't
  help.

The problem persists in LibreOffice 4.3.5-rc2 from ubuntu PPA.

2016-01-15 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
robegue, unfortunately, it didn't attach any helpful information. This
is due to how as mentioned in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1405084/comments/13
, you didn't ensure you have the package xdiagnose installed, and that
you click the Yes button for attaching additional debugging information.

2016-01-15 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
robegue, still not reproducible on my end. Hence, could you please run the
following command once from a terminal as it will automatically gather and
attach updated debug information to this report:
apport-collect -p xorg 1405084

Please ensure you have the package xdiagnose installed, and that you
click the Yes button for attaching additional debugging information.

robegue, to clarify your comment:

1) How many seconds precisely with the reference document on average?
2) What zoom type/% are you using?
3) Any further dependency to other programs running?

Bug description:
Scolling and typing becomes painfully slow when an image is added in

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1405084] Re: VERY slow when using images in Writer

2016-01-14 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
robegue, regarding the attached document, the scroll speed at the same
zoom level is exactly the same for me with either Word 2013 on Windows
10 or Ubuntu Wily Writer.

Hence, could you please advise if the one of the PPAs with 5.x shows an
improvement via https://launchpad.net/~libreoffice ?

2016-01-14 Thread robegue
when I say very slow I mean several seconds to scroll one page. But as I
said, the slowiness depends on the size of the image.

robegue, in order to define the scope of this, could you please provide
precise detail when you say "very slow"?

For example, how much slower is it in scrolling seconds per page, etc.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1405084] Re: VERY slow when using images in Writer

2015-04-21 Thread Mari
That problem was introduced with LO 4.0. Older versions work more than
ten times faster when scrolling images. The bug is independent from the
image type (jpg, tiff, gif, ...), color depth or the program the image
was created with. It was reported many times by different users and
every time the report was closed without solving the problem. The
solution I use is to work with Apache OpenOffice 4.1, which works as
fast as expected and shows that it is no problem of slow hardware or
image cache settings.
