Title:
gimp: symbol lookup error: gimp: undefined symbol:
  gegl_param_multiline_get_type

Status in gimp package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
On fully up to date 16.10 installs, gimp no longer starts.

  1. Run 'gimp' from console.
  2. Console returns: "gimp: symbol lookup error: gimp: undefined symbol:
gegl_param_multiline_get_type" and exits, instead of starting the app.

The installed package/version of gimp is 2.8.16-1ubuntu3. Gimp was
previously working fine on this install, so my guess is the symbol was
deprecated/removed in a new version of some gegl lib.

  Date: Fri Jul 15 11:41:37 2016

UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install)

Note that GIMP 2.8 depends on gegl-0.2 by default, using gegl-0.3 is a
custom change introduced by Debian.

2016-07-20 Thread George Shuklin
For those who affected - you can downgrade gimp a bit:

apt-cache policy gimp

choose older version and install it (I showing example with exact
versions, your available version may differ):

sudo apt-get install gimp=2.8.16-1ubuntu1.1

2016-07-18 Thread choops135
Same problem for me. It continues after new kernel 4.4.0.31 installed today.
I'm on nvidia geforce 610Ti with open source driver (nouveau) ... so it seems
to be independent of the GPU.
