  save to pdf hogs all memory

Bug description:
  Attempting to save a svg file hogs all of my memory (16GB).  I
  stripped out almost everything from my svg file and can reproduce the
  problem with a single remaining object.  That stripped down svg file
  is attached to this report as "test5.svg".
