[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1752431] Re: Gnome Shell Wayland session crashes on startup - artful

2018-03-29 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Sorry about that. You can correct your bug title by changing your bug
title to "eglnative" instead of "glnative".

But I suggest the best and only way forward here is for us to get a
crash file reported via the 'ubuntu-bug' command.

Please check that you have applied the workaround to bug 994921
carefully, reboot, and check /var/crash for files again. If any are
found then please run:

  ubuntu-bug /var/crash/YOURFILE.crash

and tell us here the newly-created bug ID.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1752431] Re: Gnome Shell Wayland session crashes on startup - artful

2018-03-29 Thread Sam Freed
Regarding the bug I filed with mutter, they sent me this, I am at a
loss:

"Jonas Ådahl commented:

First there is no such thing as "glnative" backend. Secondly, please
write proper bug reports. A very generic title and linking to an
external bug tracker is not enough."

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1752431] Re: Gnome Shell Wayland session crashes on startup - artful

2018-03-05 Thread Daniel van Vugt
OK. Sounds like the eglnative backend in mutter (provides Wayland
sessions) is crashing, which gdm/mutter I think will catch and handle by
itself. So perhaps no crash dump on startup is expected...

Maybe this is related:

  Feb 28 23:21:00 sam-Macmini gdm3[1054]: GdmDisplay: display lasted
0.251431 seconds

To progress this issue, next please report the problem to the mutter
developers here:

  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/issues

and then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

Please ensure you have applied the workaround from bug 994921 first.
Then reproduce the crash and check for /var/crash files again.

Thanks. Unfortunately the important log 'JournalErrors.txt' is flooded
with a single message, which may be unrelated.

Instead, can you please run these commands and send us the resulting
files?

  journalctl /usr/bin/gnome-shell > gnome-shell.txt
  journalctl /usr/sbin/gdm3 > gdm3.txt

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1752431] Re: Gnome Shell Wayland session crashes on startup - artful

2018-03-01 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Please also look in /var/crash for any crash files.

If you find some then:
  1. Apply the workaround described in bug 994921.
  2. Run: ubuntu-bug /var/crash/YOURFILE.crash
  3. Tell us here the ID of the newly created bug(s).
