Title:
OS freezes after screen turns off and I return to account

Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
I recently upgraded to the newest 18.10 I have disabled Ubuntu from
requiring my password after the screen turns off due to inactivity but
I'm still taken to the landing page as if I needed to unlock my
computer. After sliding up or hitting enter the screen stays purple
with the taskbar visible. I can click the application shortcuts on the
taskbar but nothing happens afterwards. It doesn't happen every time,
only once out of every 5 to 10 times.

I'm using a Dell Inspiron 5559 64bit, graphics card is Intel HD
  Graphics 520 (Skylake GT2)

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1809517] Re: OS freezes after screen turns off and I return to account

2019-01-07 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I did interpret "I have disabled Ubuntu from requiring my password after
the screen turns off" as automatic login/no password. Maybe that's
incorrect.

So a few questions:

1. Does your login have a password and/or is it configured for automatic
login?

2. Is the dock ("taskbar") visible on the "landing page"?

3. Does re-locking (Super+L) and re-unlocking the system get around the
problem?

4. Please run 'apport-collect 1809517' to send us more information about
the system.

** This bug is no longer a duplicate of bug 1740792
Automatic login still requires user password after suspend/hibernate

I'm not completely sure how its the same. It is related to the login
from suspended but that's about it. That's like saying a flat tire is
the same as bad wheel bearings on a vehicle because they're both on the
wheel.
