Instead of waiting for a backslash, it triggers immediately -- and then tries, unsuccessfully, to match everything you type. Thus, you get the following behavior: ibustriestomatcheverycharacteryoutypetothetable, soitendsupeatingalmosteverysinglespaceyoutype, onlystoppingonpunctuation.
