[Desktop-packages] [Bug 437508] Re: policykit prompts don't use sensible defaults (current user should be default)

2023-09-04 Thread Vegard Søbstad Alsli
They removed the ability to choose a user, but now it in my case will
always select an administrator that none of the users on the device has
rights to use anyway. This problem got worse, not better.

Title:
policykit prompts don't use sensible defaults (current user should be
  default)

Status in policykit-1 package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: policykit-1

Every time update-manager prompts me for authentication information
now, I have to manually select my current username from the list of
available admin users. This is not sensible default behavior; if the
current user is an admin user, it should be prepopulated in the
  pulldown list.

Still present (and very annoying) in 20.04.

Possible workaround (this bug unassigned for 11 years)

2020-04-24 Thread Mauro Miatello
this behaviour is no more enabled, ubuntu 18-19-20 ask always the
password of the first admin created. I think this is wrong.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 437508] Re: policykit prompts don't use sensible defaults (current user should be default)

2017-09-18 Thread amk
If the current user is admin, the dialog shall prompt for his password directly.
A list of admin users makes sense only if the current user is not admin.

In Ubuntu 16.04, after adding second administrative user there is a
drop-down but password entry is disabled before selecting the other
admin and then back myself.
