Title:
Setting empathy status via messaging menu deactivated when
  autostarting empathy

Status in Chat app, and Telepathy user interface:
  New
Status in “empathy” package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
I usually prefer my IM application to start automatically in the
background at boot time. So i it up in start-up applications in the
system preferences using /usr/bin/empathy -h as command line.

Empathy starts fine at boot and connects to various networks. But the status
switching via the messaging menu is grayed out, while being still available via
the application window itself.
The only way to resolve this, is to start empathy manually after the system
has finished loading.

I also tried without -h which would be the default behavior when
starting manually, but that doesn't change the behavior with
  autostart.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 843798] Re: Setting empathy status via messaging menu deactivated when autostarting empathy

2012-03-17 Thread Paul Hoell
That is not true Bilal. You mistook my meaning. I was never talking
about any setting for autoconnection. I was and still am talking about
the problem, that when you put empathy in the autostart, the status
changer in unity's indicator don't work.

This still happens in 12.04 btw.

Please revert your status change.

This preference means that Empathy will connect your IM accounts when starting,
not that Empathy will be started with your session.

It works for me with a script, started at login.

I think Empathy starts too early and cannot connect to unity correctly.
