It lasts less than a second, not long enough to type more than two characters, and is difficult to bring back up. This problem only occurs in Icon View and Compact View. How to reproduce: 1. Open nautilus. 2. Enter Icon view in an empty folder 3. Create three folders, LongName1, LongName2, LongName3. 4. Make sure that the focus is on Nautilus. 5. Begin typing LongName3. What is expected: The helpful search entry will pop up, allowing you to type the name of LongName3, and selecting it for you. What actually happens: The search entry shows up, highlights LongName1 as it is first in the dictionary order, then disappears around the letter 'n', and you are forced to try to retype LongName3. After reading the source somewhat in Nautilus to better understand the problem, I rewrote this bug and provided what I suppose is a more readable summary.
