Public bug reported:

When I close firefox and try to start it again, I receive the following
message:

"Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new
window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart
your system."

It didn't do this until your update mechanism installed a new Flash
Update. Now, every time I close Firefox, I have to reset my machine to
get it running again. Every time I get my machine running perfectly, you
guys have me do an update, and something screws up. As much as I hate
Microsoft, I'm just about ready to go back to Windows again.

After three years of Ubuntu, I'm right up to my neck in your updating
scheme. You guys are upgrading, or 'improving' Ubuntu right into the
dumpster. That's a shame, as you had a good thing going, but Unity has
destroyed it for me. 10.04 is as high as I am going as long as Unity
remains.

** Affects: firefox (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
