Title:
network-manager forgets wireless password after I cancel connection

Status in “network-manager” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
When I am using my netbook in a different room from where the router
is and have a weak connection, sometimes network-manager has a hard
time connecting and prompts me for a password, with the password field
filled with the correct password (although hidden). Normally I hit
cancel because it's unlikely to succeed, and a few minutes later I
try to connect again by clicking on my wireless network through the
panel applet. After upgrading to Oneiric, if I hit cancel, network-
manager automatically deletes the password, which is no longer to be
found in the Edit Connections dialog, so I have to go find out the
  password and enter it again.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 877803] Re: network-manager forgets wireless password after I cancel connection

2012-03-05 Thread Kangarooo
I solved by from new account using sudo nautilus copynd whole home dir
(so all hidden folders for programm configs also are copied) to new
location and deleted User and made new user with same name- now it didnt
even asked for keyring but its good enough for me- i have no problem
changing passw in case someone sees my wifi password.

But interesting maybe this will help finding problem root.
I installed 10.04.03 with username and latest updating. Then made new user and
immidiatly made passw and to not ask for it aand autologin to it.
On 1st time connecting to wifi i dont remeber did i made keyring or nonsafe but
it was all the time forgeting. I removed keyring folder and that didnt solved.
So maybe strange problem comes if auto making autologing and no asking at time
when it hasnt logged in jet

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 877803] Re: network-manager forgets wireless password after I cancel connection

2012-02-12 Thread joehill
I would like to add that this bug is actually much more obtrusive than
my original comment makes it out to be.

1) Any time network manager has a hard time connecting to a router--even if I'm
right next to the router and, for example, the router gets unplugged and
rebooted--it seems to think it's an authentication problem and prompts for the
password.
2) Regardless of whether I press enter to use the stored password or cancel to
wait for the router to become available, it ALWAYS not only (a) deletes the
password currently stored but (much more annoyingly) (b) sets it so that no
matter how many times I enter the password through the dialog when prompted for
it, it NEVER saves to the keyring.
3) As a result, EVERY TIME network manager has a hard time accessing the
network, I must manually go into Edit connections, locate the wireless I want
to use, click on the wireless security tab, and enter the password. This is
EXTREMELY aggravating. If I don't manually enter the password, I am prompted
EVERY time I want to use the network.

I really appreciated back in the old days when network manager just
remembered my password and only changed it I successfully authenticated
with a new one. It seems that network manager was redesigned and many of
the things that used to work perfectly no longer work.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 877803] Re: network-manager forgets wireless password after I cancel connection

2012-01-29 Thread Dennis van Dok
Could this be fixed? It is one of the most annoying things I've ever
encountered.

Title:
network-manager forgets wireless password after I cancel connection

2011-11-27 Thread Marc MERLIN
Same here, my wireless setup had worked for years, and after upgrading
to oneiric (from marverick, not natty), whenever my wireless connection
is not good, I get a password popup to verify/change the password and if
I click wrong, my wireless password is deleted from the 'auto essidname'
entry in network connections (I just had to manually re-enter it but it
should never have been deleted there to start with).

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 877803] Re: network-manager forgets wireless password after I cancel connection

2011-10-26 Thread Andrew Skalski
This also affects me, ever since upgrading to Oneiric. What I would
like the behavior to be: Only update the keyring after successfully
authenticating to the wireless network. This would protect good keys
from temporary failures.
