[Desktop-packages] [Bug 888373] Re: Ubuntu 11.10 won't boot with nvidia driver enabled

2014-01-08 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Alex, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any
activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If
so, could you please test for this with the latest development release
of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com
/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal
(Applications-Accessories-Terminal), as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p xserver-xorg-video-nouveau REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER

Please note, given that the information from the prior release is
already available, doing this on a release prior to the development one
would not be helpful.

Thank you for your understanding.

Title:
Ubuntu 11.10 won't boot with nvidia driver enabled

Status in “xserver-xorg-video-nouveau” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Hi!

I have a problem when I try to start Ubuntu 11.10. Ubuntu 11.04 worked
  fine.

When I try to start Ubuntu this pops up:
  http://i.stack.imgur.com/qJJxX.jpg
  [4.629137] phy0 - rt2800pci_mcu_status: Error - mcu request failed, no
response from hardware usually pops up there too.

I have no problems if I start Ubuntu in safe mode, or disable the
nvidia driver. Everything works in safe mode(i think).

First I tried to upgrade 11.04 to 11.10, then I got this error. Then I
removed the broken 11.10 installation and installed 11.10. I still
can't boot without using safe mode. I have no problems on my laptop.

I've tried the suggestions posted here:

  Same problem:

  System specs:
  CPU: i7-2600k
  Memory: Corsair vengeance 16GB
Motherboard: Asus P8P67 PRO REV 3.0
GPU: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 560 Ti SOC
Disks: Corsair Force GT and two 1 TB drives for storage.
  Dualbooting with Windows 7 Ultimate.

I'm not sure if Xorg is the right package for this, please correct me
  if I'm wrong.

  Any ideas?
