[Desktop-packages] [Bug 908627] Re: lightdm starts neither on startup nor via tty

2014-05-11 Thread if.gnu.linux
This is not a bug, but a consequence of removing a packet that is
required by lightdm. So I turned this into a question

Hi,
So if you repeat the set of install/uninstall in your original report does
that also remove unity-greeter ?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 908627] Re: lightdm starts neither on startup nor via tty

2011-12-31 Thread numand46
Hi,

No, it does not remove unity-greeter. I remembered removing unity-
greeter because I thought it as just a 'greeter'. So, it was my mistake
in the beginning. I think it is reasonable to change this so called bug
to a question.

Hi,
Can you include /var/log/lightdm/lightdm.log please; also the x-0-greeter.log
and x-0.log from the same directory.
(I don't think they have passwords in them - they do have usernames).

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 908627] Re: lightdm starts neither on startup nor via tty

2011-12-26 Thread Dave Gilbert
So I think the main error is:

[+0.23s] DEBUG: Starting session unity-greeter as user lightdm
[+0.23s] DEBUG: Failed to load session file
/usr/share/xgreeters/unity-greeter.desktop: No such file or directory:
[+0.23s] DEBUG: Failed to start greeter
[+0.23s] DEBUG: Stopping display

(There is also:
(==) Using system config directory /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d
(EE) Failed to load module fglrx (module does not exist, 0)
(II) [KMS] Kernel modesetting enabled.
 ddxSigGiveUp: Closing log

but I'm guessing it's not the main one).

So can you see if you have /usr/share/xgreeters/unity-greeter.desktop ? Can
you check if you have
the unity-greeter package installed ?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 908627] Re: lightdm starts neither on startup nor via tty

2011-12-26 Thread numand46
Hi Dave,

As you pointed, removing unity-greeter package caused the problem. After
installing it, lightdm starts.

Thank you for spending your time on this problem.

Regards.

Title:
lightdm starts neither on startup nor via tty

Status in “lightdm” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
After a regular upgrade on Ubuntu 11.10 Unity 2D session, I installed
gnome-session-fallback package, then removed it (#apt-get purge gnome-
session-fallback). This steps drive me to a system in which lightdm
does not start. I can try to start it via tty1[2...6] but it did not
  start.

What I expected to happen is that lightdm starts and greets me.

What happened instead is that it does not start.

  Procedure to repeat:

  1- Install gnome-session-fallback package
  2- Remove completely gnome-session-fallback package
  3- Restart computer

PS: English is not my native language so it is possible for me to make
  mistakes.
